1. In your own words, briefly define the following, and describe how these trends change
technology project management.
Globalization

For me globalization is the innovations that has a big contribution to the

economy. Globalization is the tendency of firms to extend their sales or

manufacturing to new markets abroad. For businesses everywhere, the rate of

globalization in the past few years has been nothing short of phenomenal.
Globalization of markets and manufacturing is important, in part because it has
vastly increased international competition.Globalization has impacted project
management profoundly, and has only reinforced the trend toward adoption of
the project mode of work organization. Globalization in project management
means among other matters more projects executed in the multi-cultural
environment.

Outsourcing

For me outsourcing industry has seen considerable growth from the information
technology sector. This gave rise to business process outsourcing and now
knowledge process outsourcing. Can project management services be outsourced?
Surprisingly, this concept is still in its infancy. Judging from the growth in
outsourcing of other business processes there seems to be very good opportunity
for project management outsourcing.

A majority of processes project management outsourcing that could be

outsourced are those for project control. The concept could be understood in
terms of various structures, roles, and models. Although it has some advantages
there are some challenges as well. For example, an organization interested in

maintaining its focus on its core competency could benefit from it. At the same
time there could loss of control or threat of loss of sensitive data.

Agile project management

As what I’ve understand, Agile project management is the repetition approach

of managing a project where they are focusing on easier manageable tasks. An
Agile project management has changed the project management because it
helps the management to be able to complete the work faster, and able to adapt
to changing project requirements.Agile thrives in adaptive cultures where team
members are quick to change if the outcome is more productive work experience.

1. Research the trend of using virtual teams. Review the information on team role theory
from https://www.belbin.com/

 Write a short summary of your findings.

Some organizations are quite prescriptive when building teams and will use team
role theories to 'build' what they believe is the best performing team for a
particular project. A widely recognized team role theory was suggested by Belbin
in 1981. Belbin believes that each of us possesses a pattern of behaviour that
characterizes one person's behaviour in relationship to another in facilitating the
progress of a team.. Everybody has a tendency to behave in a particular way
when working with other people, which doesn't mean, of course, that they'll
always behave like that. Meredith Belbin and his colleagues found that that are
common clusters of these behaviours, and these clusters are stable enough to be
separately identifiable. Everybody seems to have a preference for one or more of
these 'Team Roles' when behaving naturally in a group. If you have more than
one 'natural role', then you can switch between them if you choose, and this is
useful knowledge if you ever need to fill a different role in a team.. They also
found that if team members identify, share and discuss their team roles then this

improves how people work and live together. They refined things as they went
along, so some roles have more than one name.

 Include any personal experience and your opinion on the topic. For example,
what role(s) would you prefer to play on a team?

The Role I would prefer to play a team is the completer or finisher because
introverted individuals who perform quality assurance during key stages of a project.
They are often perfectionists who can notice fine details, which enables them to
scrutinize finished tasks or products for errors I want be the finisher of the products
we want to produce. And I think Organizations need these individuals to ensure that
teams produce high-quality work. Completer are especially valuable in work
environments where precision and adherence to deadlines are essential.

 Do you like working on virtual teams? If you have not yet worked on one, how
do you think it would be different from working on a face-to-face team?

If I were to work, I prefer to chose face to face than to be working on virtual

teams. Why? Because as what I’ve experienced on online learning, it is so hard
for me to cope with the online learning because it gives me so much pressure and
causes stress to my mental health. Working on face-to-face teams helps me to
feel more motivated. Seeing my workmate and having a good communication
with them helps my performance to improve. We are able to express ourselves
through communicating and we are able to exchange more information that
have the most impact on team creativity. You were able to ask questions
personally without barrier or problems unlike online, there might be a problem
especially for the internet connection and signals.

2. Explain the four frames of organizations. How can they help project managers
understand the organizational context for their projects?

Structural frame

- For me, The structural frame focuses on the architecture of the

organization. This includes goals, structure, technology, roles and
relationships. The human resource frame emphasizes individual needs,
feelings, fears, prejudices, skills, and development opportunities. As what
I’ve understand, structural frames are about how the organizations are
structured and how they focus on their different roles and responsibilities
to meet their goals. Structural frame helps the project managers to
understand the organizational context of their product in terms of each
departments are given a different responsibility for them to be able to
work accordingly to their task.

Human resources frame

I think human resource frame is all organizations are made up of

individuals. Even if you are in a business that leans heavily on technology,
you still have people behind the scenes that make that technology go.
Therefore, paying attention to the human side of your organization is
essential to short and long term success. It tends to be people that are
happy and motivated that lead to the best business results, so all
companies should take the time and effort necessary to ensure that their
people are positive about the work that they do.

Political frame

Political frame it exist everywhere you turn, and that is especially true in
business. Your organization is full of politics, whether you want to

acknowledge their existence or not. So, in order to understand your
organization and move it forward successfully, you need to have a clear
picture of how the politics in your company are working. Who are the power
players who are driving most of the decision making? Are there various
parties fighting for control and recognition, and how do they intend on
getting it? Politics often have an automatically-negative connotation, but it
doesn’t have to be that way. Some politics can be healthy and productive,
especially when there is competition among employees to reach new
achievements and accomplish company goals.

Symbolic frame

- Symbolic frame In this frame, you are going to look at the organization
through the lens of theater or drama, in that the individuals involved in
the organization are seen as actors in an ongoing performance. This line
of thinking and framing gives life to the organization, and the meaning
behind the actions that are taken matters in many ways more than the
results of those actions. It isn’t so much about rules in this point as it is
about the way the organization moves and evolves together into the
future.
