Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center Hiring Manager

Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center
1324 Lakeland Hills Blvd
Lakeland, Florida 33805

Dear Hiring Manager,

At the start of nursing school, I recognized I have a passion for women and newborn’s health care that has
continued to grow over the course of my studies. While I am confident that my education from the
University of South Florida has prepared me for a career as a nurse, I was thrilled to find the opportunity
to work and continue to learn within the Nurse Residency Program in the Mother-Baby unit at Lakeland
Regional Health Medical Center. The passion I have for maternal-newborn health and the values that I hold
for patient care are mirrored by the hospital, which I believe further aids my qualification and candidacy. I
am confident due to my organized, calm, and driven professionalism that I would be a valuable addition to
your hospital healthcare staff.
With a soon-to-be Bachelor of Science in Nursing and many hours of clinical experience, I am eager to
begin my nursing career. Having completed two years of clinicals at Lakeland Regional Health Medical
Center and Advent Health Tampa, I am well-versed in a variety of nursing specialties. In clinicals, I was
fortunate to spend most of my women’s health rotation in the mother-baby unit, and I am currently
completing a preceptorship at Advent Health Tampa on a Surgical/Oncology Progressive Care Unit for
patients managing their pain post-surgery and providing therapeutic communication to chemotherapy
recipients.
Additionally, I have gained hands-on experience with infants at a preschool for three years. In this role, I
learned to communicate with parents about childcare, feeding, safe sleep information and scheduling, and
SIDS prevention. Throughout nursing school, I have utilized evidence-based practice within postpartum
care, specifically postpartum depression. My research has inspired me to improve nursing care with
research-based interventions to obtain better outcomes for this patient population. These opportunities and
educational experiences have confirmed my desire to pursue mother-baby care.
Being accepted into the Nurse Residency Program at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center would be
an incredible opportunity in transitioning from nursing school to working as a professional clinical nurse. I
will strive each day to incorporate patient advocacy, communication, and compassion as I care for women
through their transition to and in motherhood.
My diverse clinical experiences along with my drive to positively impact patient care makes me an excellent
candidate for this role. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and hope to work alongside the dedicated
team at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to
speaking with you soon.
Sincerely,
Ashley Dougherty
