The cowlette pattern combines elements of a cowl and shawl to create a hybrid garment that is easy to wear casually as a scarf. It is worked from the top down in rounds and includes charts and written instructions for four different gauges.

The main steps are to cast on stitches at the top, work in pattern until reaching the desired circumference, then continue working until the desired length is reached before binding off. Markers are used and increases/decreases are made to shape the cowlette.

Yarns with silk, bamboo or rayon content or looser constructions will create more drape, while wool-rich or denser yarns will create less drape. Gradient or coordinating solid yarns can be used. Fiber content and gauge affect the drape.

ZUZU'S PETALS

[COWLETTE: A COWL + SHAWL HYBRID]

All the style of a shawlette

without the fuss of trying to
keep it around your neck! This
easy to wear cowl is designed
to mimic the look of a shawl,
casually worn as a scarf. The
pattern starts out worked flat
like a top-down shawl, and is
then joined and worked in the
round to the bottom edge. I call
these hybrid patterns,
"cowlettes."

Pattern includes charts and

written directions for four
gauges to accommodate
fingering - super bulky weight
yarns. Knits up fast from the
top down, with a small amount
of yardage and is simple
enough for an advanced
beginner.
