What I Need to
i Know
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to indulge
you in finding area of a circle. The scope of this module permits it to be used
in many different learning situations. You have learned from the previous
lesson that the distance around the circle is the circumference. Meanwhile, if
we want to know the space covered by the interior of the circle, we refer to it as
the area.
1
What I Know
10. Given the radius of the circle 30 cm, find its circumference.
2
Lesson
1 Area of a Circle
WHAT’S IN
When you were in grade 4, you have learned about the concepts
related to circles, its circumference and its radius. The
knowledge and skills you acquired are very important to understand how to
find the area of a circle. Hence, let us review all about circles, and also the
terms we need to know like radius, diameter, pi(π) and others.
DEFINITION
that are the same distance from its center. The area of a circle is the region enclosed by the circle. The

= 28.27 m2 (to 2 decimal places)
Example #2:
What’s New
At this point of the module, you are about to learn the Area of a Circles. To
understand better how to find the area of a circle, you will have to perform the
simple activity below.
Were you able to complete the task? If yes, you may proceed to the next page.
If no, take time to finish for you to better understand the next discussions.
Activity #1: Calculate the area, given each radius. Use 3.14 as the value of π.
a. 25 mm f. 12.5 cm
b. 3.5 m g. 7.5 ft
c. 12 m h.15 yards
d. 10 cm i. 16 ft
e. 9 mm j. 20 in
What Is It
How did you find activity # 1? Have you given an idea on how to find the area
of a circle? Let’s answer some of these problems involving area of circles.
1. A therapy pool in a water spa is in the shape of a 8-meter wide circle. How
much material would it take to cover it?
2. Cindy wants to know if the table cloth that she wants to buy will fit their
round table in the dining room. The table’s radius is 40 cm. What is the
area of the table cloth that will fit the round table?
4
What’s More
DIRECTION: Read and understand each item. Choose the letter of your
answer.
5
What I Have Learned
Great! You have reached this part of the module. To ensure your full
understanding on the concepts related to finding the area of circle, it’s
important that you are able to complete each statement below.
A circle is ____________________________________________.
Pi (π) is _________________________________________________.
The value of pi is_________________________________________.
The formula of finding the area of circle is _____________________.
What I Can Do
Direction: Answer the following problems.
1. Jason is painting a large circle on one wall of his new apartment. The largest
distance across the circle will be 6 feet. Approximately how many square feet of
wall will the circle cover?
2.A bicycle tire has a diameter of 26 inches. How farr does the bike travel along the
ground when the wheel rotates the ground?
5. Circular fountain has a radius of 10 meters. What is the area of the circular
fountain?
6.The diameter of the drum is 60 cm. What is the area covered when the drum
stands?
10.Every time it rains, Mrs. Dela Cruz saves water in a big water dispenser. She
covers it with a circular top with a radius of 12 m. What is the area of the circular
cover?
