teacher, speak to the child in the same manner?
How about the degree of formality?

The way you communicate has a big impact on

how you get on with people and get the things
you want. Good communication skills can help
you avoid conflict and solve problems- they are
also important for making friends and having
healthy relationships.

And now, let us discuss the different styles of

communication that suits varied situation you
might got into.

1. Intimate- it is a style among intimate

members of a family or very close friends
that do not need a complete language
with clear articulation. It is enough to use
short utterances or personal language
codes. Another characteristic of this style
is grammar unnecessarily used here,
because it can bring disorder to this
intimate style. It also uses certain terms
of endearment, slangs or expressions
whose meaning is shared with a small
subset of people.

2. Casual- also known as informal,

information sharing is typically used in
personal conversations with friends or
family members. Often very relaxed and
focused on just getting the information
out. Slangs are quite often used in these
instances. This style is used in informal
situations and language where
relationship between speaker and hearer
is closed.

3. Consultative- it is used in some group

discussion, regular conversation at
school, companies, trade, speech
conversation, etc. It was the most
operational among the other styles.

4. Formal- A type of verbal presentation or

document intended to share information
in which conforms to establish
professional rules, standards and
processes and avoids using slang
terminology.

5. Frozen- it is the most formal

communicative style that is usually used
in respectful situation or formal
ceremony. It does not require any
feedback from the audience and usually
uses long sentences with good grammar
and vocabulary. The use of language is
fixed and relatively static.

Now can you tell me what type of communicative

styles are the following situations?

1. Situation: A husband talking to her wife Intimate

about their future plans.
2. Situation: Soldiers stating their national Frozen
pledge to their beloved country.
3. Situation: A girl informing her friend Casual
about her whereabouts.
4. Situation: A patient went to the hospital Consultative
to seek help from his doctor.
5. Situation: A phone call from one office to Formal
another.

Very Good class! Let us have an activity from

what you have learned about different
communicative styles.
