4.1 General
The upgrade of JMR-9200/7200 series RADAR, JAN-9201/7201 ECDIS, and JAN-9202/7202 CONNING is needed to
the latest hardware and software.
4.2 Information
Since equipment specifications differ for every ship, please carried out the following work based on a direction from
Marine Service Dept:
a. The check of the terminal modification mistake in SLC
b. The wiring check of the cable between ISW-RIF
c NDC-1590
c. NDC 1590 CCU hardware modification
d. NCE-5605 TOPU hardware modification
e. NBD-913 PSU hardware modification
f. CCK-1061 Keyboard module hardware modification

Replacing the CCU: NDC-1590

Discriminate replaced unit from delivered unit


Confirm CCU serial No..

Be sure to check the name plate and model before replacing the CCU. Check that the

nameplate of the pre-upgrading is the same as that of the replacement CCU.

Before conducting replacement work, turn OFF the circuit breaker for the power supply of the display

unit.

Do not lose the screws as they will be needed again.

1 Remove the front cover of the display unit mount kit. (Flash Mount:Skip this
procedure)
Remove the screws that fasten the front cover of the display unit mount kit with a flat head screwdriver
and then take out the front cover.

2 Remove the Delivered CCU from the display unit mount kit. (Flash Mount:Skip this
procedure)
Remove all the cables being connected to the front of the CCU. Remove the screws (M5: 2 locations) of
the mounting plate that fasten the CCU, pull out the CCU together with the mounting plate, and then
remove it from the display unit mount kit.

3 Remove Delivered CCU


Remove the screws (M4: 4 locations) of the mounting plate and pull out the CCU from the mounting plate.
After that, replace the CCU.

4 Replace the CCU


Reinstall the CCU into the display unit mount kit by repeating the same procedure in the reverse order.

Be careful not to forget to insert the cable connectors.

Replacing the TOPU: NCE-5605

Before conducting replacement work, turn OFF the circuit breaker for the power supply of the display

unit.

Do not lose the screws as they will be needed again.

To prevent damage to the Unit during the replacement work, cut every cable-ties off before work.

1 Remove the front cover of the display unit mount kit. (Flash Mount:Skip this
procedure)
Remove the screws that fasten the front cover of the display unit mount kit with a flat head screwdriver
and then take out the front cover.

2 Cut off every cable-tie that fastens the TOPU cable.


(Example for Stand-alone type is shown below.)
Cut off every cable-tie that fastens the TOPU cable (W61).

Before conducting Unit replacement work, always be sure that every


cable-tie that fastens the cable has been cut off.

Replacement work without above may lead Unit/cable breakage.

3 Remove the screws of the TOPU.


Remove the two screw covers at the bottom right and left of the trackball. The screw covers can come off
by pushing them down inward. Remove the screws (M4: 2 locations) inside the screw covers that fasten
the TOPU.

4 Change the TOPU.


Flip over the TOPU and remove the rear cable (W6: J601). J601 can be released by pulling it out while
holding down the center tab. If a keyboard operation unit (KOPU) is mounted, also remove the KOPU
cable (W64: J614). J614 can be released by pushing the both ends of the connector. Remove the TOPU
from the mounting frame and change it.
After replacing the TOPU, assemble to the original condition by repeating the same procedure in the
reverse order. Apply new cable-ties to the cables from where cable-ties were cut off. Please make sure to
tighten all the screws and connect all the cables back in place.

If you try to pull out the cable before pressing the center tab, the connector may become difficult
to be released.
In that case, push the connector itself to insertion direction once, and then pull it out while
holding down the center tab.
It will be difficult to pull out W6 without pushing tab enough, then
please reinsert W6 and try again.

Replacing the PSU: NBD-913

Discriminate replaced unit from delivered unit


Confirm Blue mark labeled on NBD-913 unit and packing box.

AC and DC power supplies are connected to the PSU. Before replacement work,
be sure to turn OFF the applicable power circuit breaker. Not following this
instruction will cause electric shock and/or malfunction.

1 Remove the front cover of the display unit mount kit. (Flash Mount:Skip this
procedure)
Remove the screws that fasten the front cover of the display unit mount kit with a flat head screwdriver
and then take out the front cover.

2 Remove the Delivered PSU from the display unit mount kit. (Flash Mount:Skip this
procedure)
Remove all the connectors being connected to the front of the PSU. Loosen the two screws of the TB1
on the right and left of the front and remove it together with the wires. The J50 and the J51 can be
removed by pulling them out while holding down the tabs at the top center.
Remove the screws (M5: 2 locations) of the mounting plate that fasten the PSU, pull out the CCU
together with the mounting plate, and then remove it from the display unit mount kit.

To secure safety, turn OFF the main power circuit breakers of AC and DC power supplies before

replacement work.

3 Remove Delivered PSU


Remove the screws (M4: 4 locations) of the mounting plate and pull out the PSU from the mounting plate.
After that, replace the PSU.

4 Replace the PSU


Reinstall the PSU into the display unit mount kit by repeating the same procedure in the reverse order.

Be careful not to forget to insert the cable connectors.

Replacing the Keyboard Module: CCK-1061

Discriminate replaced unit from delivered unit

AC and DC power supplies are connected to the PSU. Before replacement work,
be sure to turn OFF the applicable power circuit breaker. Not following this
instruction will cause electric shock and/or malfunction.

1 Remove the screws of the KOPU.


Remove the four screw covers at the top and bottom of the KOPU. The screw covers can come off by
pushing them down inward. Remove the screws (M4: 4 locations) inside the screw covers that fasten the
TOPU.

2 Change the keyboard: CCK-1061.


Disconnect the FPC that connects between the operation circuit B and the keyboard: CCK-1061. FPC
can be released by sliding the actuator of J641 horizontally.
Remove the screws (M3: 13 locations) that fasten the CCK-1061 and change it.
After replacing the CCK-1061, assemble to the original condition by repeating the same procedure in
the reverse order. Please make sure to tighten all the screws and connect all the cables back in place.

When mounting the new keyboard, be careful so that the waterproof packing dos not get into the inside

of the keyboard.

Exercise caution when handling the FPC as it is very fragile.

When installing the FPC, be careful not to insert them slanted or bend them.

Updating software of the CCU Firmware


Note
When software update starts, the tasks that are active are automatically terminated.
Complete the necessary operation such as saving of settings prior to the start of update.

The following item is required to update the CCU Firmware.

When you want to use a USB flash memory to read or write a file, make sure in
advance that the USB flash memory is not affected by a computer virus. If the
display unit is infected with a virus, other equipment will also be infected, with
the result that a trouble will occur.

Before removing the USB flash memory, check for the access lamp of the USB
flash memory and make sure that it is not being accessed.
If you remove the USB flash memory when it is accessed, data may be
destroyed and a trouble may occur.

2 Applying the power and activating the maintenance tool


(1) Apply power to the indicator by using the PWR switch of the trackball operation unit. The
Task selection screen is displayed.

(2) Position the cursor on the Password window and left-click on it. The Password input
screen is displayed. Enter “1074”.

3 Updating the CCU Firmware by using the remote update tool


(1) The maintenance tool is activated. Connect the USB memory containing the CCU
Firmware remote update tool to the USB port of the trackball operation unit.

(2) Select CompanionUpdate.exe and press OK. The remote update tool is activated.

(3) Check the COM port in the Step1 Setup Interface item.
Check that COM4:blzam Virtual Com Port is selected. Do not select any other COM port.
After checking, press the Open button.

(4) Press the “Get Version” button in the Step2 Select Software item. Subsequently, select
COMPANION-APL (Ver.01.**) from the tab. (**: Software version)

(5) Press the “Browse…” button in the Step3 Select update file item. When the Explorer
screen is displayed, select the latest CMP software file (CMP_APL_***.img).

When the Software type and the update file do not match, an error occurs.

(6) After the file is selected, the “Update” button is enabled in the Step4 Update item. Start
Update by pressing the button.

(7) When Update is finished normally, the Update completion window is displayed. When the
OK button is pressed, the remote update tool is terminated and processing returns to the
Task screen. When the restart confirmation screen is displayed, restart.

4 Confirming the updating version


After updating, confirm the firmware version in maintenance menu.
1 Click on the [Menu] button on the left toolbar.
The menu is displayed.

2 Click on the [Maintenance] - [System Information] button on the menu.


The [System Information] dialog box appears.
Click on the [Software] tab.

3 TOPU Firmware updating by using the remote update tool


(1) The maintenance tool is activated. Connect the USB memory containing the TOPU
Firmware remote update tool to the USB port.

Caution!!
Do not use the USB port of TOPU. Otherwise, the TOPU operation unit is reset during
updating, making update impossible. Use USB Port of CCU

(2) Select OperationUpdate.exe and press OK. The remote update tool is activated.

(3) Check the COM port in the Step1 Setup Interface item.
Check that COM6:NCE-5605 Virtual COM Port is selected. Do not select any other COM
port. After checking, press the Open button.

(4) Press the “Get Version” button in the Step2 Select Software item. Subsequently, select
OPERATION-APL (Ver.V01.**) from the tab. (**: Software version)

(5) Press the “Browse…” button in the Step3 Select update file item. When the Explorer
screen is displayed, select the latest TOPU CMP software file (OPU_APL_***.img).

When the Software type and the update file do not match, an error occurs.

(6) After the file is selected, the “Update” button is enabled in the Step4 Update item. Start
Update by pressing the button.

1 Preparation
(1) Copy all the “SlcAlcSetupMacro” folder of MAC setting tool to the root folder of the USB memory.
(2) Connect USB memory to the USB connector on the operation unit.
(3) Check the IP address of MFD has been set from installation menu.

(4) Check the value of SLC rotary switch ( 0 – F ) for setting MAC address.
(5) Turn off the power of all SLC, and turn on the power of only SLC to set MAC address.

Select the “MAC Address Verification” of the menu, and press [OK] button.

If reading of the bar code number and the MAC address is successful, the following screen is

Confirm that the MAC address is in the below value, and go back to the menu by pressing [OK]

When MAC address is different from the below value, setting of MAC address is not required.

Update the software of SLC/ALC that is installed in this ship to the latest version. Check the
following items before updating the version.

2 Prior confirmation
Confirm the following contents before the update.
(1) Number of SLCs/ALCs that are installed on this ship
Check the JB on this ship and check the number of SLCs/ALCs that are installed on this
ship.
Software updating must be carried out for all the SLCs/ALCs.
Open the cover (fixed by four screws) of each JB and check that SLC or ALC is installed.

(2) Confirming the setting of SLC/ALC S3 rotary switch


Check the setting of S3 rotary switch of SLC/ALC. If there is an SLC with the same switch
setting in each of the MAIN network and SUB network, the software cannot be updated
correctly.

(3) Confirming network connection


By using the network connection from the indicator, update the SLC software.
Check the network connection in advance.
Check that the indicator, NQA-2443 Sensor LAN Unit (referred to as the Sensor LAN Unit
henceforth), and SLC/ALC are all turned on.
MAIN SLC: Check that CCU LAN1 –Sensor LAN unit for Main – SLC J8111 are connected
through the Ethernet Cable.
SUB SLC: Check that CCU LAN2 – Sensor LAN unit for Sub – SLC J8112 are connected
through the Ethernet cable.

3 Supplying the power and activating the maintenance tool


Check that the indicator body, Sensor LAN Unit, and SLC are all turned on. For the indicator,
check also that the breaker of NBD-913D is turned ON.
Update can be performed from any indicator as long as it is connected to SLC through the
network.

(1) Turn on the power of the indicator by using the PWR switch of the trackball operation unit.
The Task selection screen is displayed.

Caution!!
When update SLC software, do not use task function, other task station need to set Task
select Screen.

(2) Position the cursor on the Password window and left-click on it. The Password input
screen is displayed. Enter “1074”.

4 Updating SLC/ALC software by using the remote update tool


(1) The maintenance tool is activated. Connect the USB memory containing the SLC/ALC
remote update tool to the USB port of the trackball operation unit.

(2) Select SlcAlcUpdate.exe and press OK. The remote update tool is activated.

(3) Select a network in the Step1 Setup Interface item.

(4) In Equipment of Step2 Select equipment, select the SLC for which software update is to
be performed. The IP address of the selected SLC is automatically input in Equipment IP. Do
not change the port.

Use the No.* seal of SLC as the numeric digits of SLC*. For instance, No.2 SLC=SCL2.

(5) Press the “Get Version” button on the Step3 Select Software item. Subsequently, select
SLC/ALC-APL (Ver.01.00.**) from the tab. (**: Software version)

(6) Press the “Browse…” button in the Step4 Select update file item. When the Explorer
screen is activated, select the latest SLC/ALC software file (SLC _APL_***.img).

When the software type and update file do not match, an error occurs.

(7) After the file is selected, the “Update” button is enabled in the Step5 Update item. Start
Update by pressing the button.

(8) When Update is finished normally, the Update completion window is displayed. When the
OK button is pressed, the remote update tool is terminated and processing returns to the
Task screen. When the activation confirmation screen is displayed, restart.

5 Confirming the update version


After updating, confirm the SLC software version in maintenance menu.
1 Click on the [Menu] button on the left toolbar.
The menu is displayed.

2 Click on the [Maintenance] - [System Information] button on the menu.


The [System Information] dialog box appears.
Click on the [Software] tab.

Step1:Preparation
1) Remove the LAN cable from RPS.

2) Turn the power off and connect a keyboard to RPS

3) Confirm that the "HASP" and "eToken" are inserted on the RPS

Step2:Making a backup copy of INI-files


1) Turn the power ON.

Caution

Left-click [OK] button when the message as below appears.

Caution

Confirm that the Hard Disk Drive is not out of order when the message as below appears.

” The application cannot start because D drive is not recognized.

Turn off the power, and turn it on again.”

2) Insert the CD-ROM or USB Media that contains some tools for making a backup copy of INI-files to
RPS.

3) On the task menu, enter a password "1074", and left click [Enter] button .

Step3:Restoring an OS Disk Image for updating


1) Insert the "Recovery Boot Disk V2.1" to CD-ROM Drive and restart RPS.

2) When a "Remove Boot DVD" message popup dialog appears, remove the "Recovery Boot Disk
V2.1". Then, insert the " JAN-5203 Update Image".

3) When a flickering of LED lamp on DVD drive stops, left click [OK] button on the message dialog.

4) Remove " JAN-5203 Update Image" after restoring disk image.

(restoring procedure takes about 15 minutes)

5) Press the power button for a while in order to turn the power off.

Step4:Restoring INI files


1) Turn the RPS power ON.

2) Left click [OK] button when the message ”JRC license file not found.” appears.

3) Insert the CD-ROM or USB Media that contains some tools for making a backup copy of INI-files to
RPS.

4) On the task menu, enter a password "1074", and left click [Enter] button .

5) On the ”Manitenance Tools Startup” dialog, select ” MFD_IniBackupTool.exe” and left click
[OK] button.

6) Left click ”Restore” button on the "MFD_IniBackupTool" dialog, and then

left click [OK] button on the "Confirmation message" dialogs

Step5:Confirmation of RPS software version and starting up


1) Connect the LAN cable to RPS.

2) Turn the RPS power ON.

3) Select ”Route Planning Route Monitoring (ECDIS)” on the Task Menu.

4) Select "Menu" > "Maintenance" > "System Information" > "Software Tab" in order.

Comfirm that the ”Maintenance No.” displayed on the screen is "01.00.519".

5) Select "Menu" > "Code Input" in order and enter a password "0009".

6) Select "Menu" > "Service" in order. (next to "Code Input" menu)

7) Select "Installation" menu in order to get the setting of "Common Setting Items (Setting of Sensors,
Setting of SerialPort, Ship's Parameter, e.t.c.)" from SLC.

8) Wait for a while when the message dialog of ”Now getting the setting data...” appears.

Caution

Click [OK] button when the popup dialog of ”SLC/ALC connection faild.” appears.

9) Left-click "x" button on the upper-right side in order to close the "Installation" dialog.

10) Confirm that the sensor data of "GPS", "GYRO", "LOG" is displayed.

Step6:Cloning of OS Disk Image and storage on board


1) Insert "Recovery Boot Disk V2.1" into the CD-ROM drive and restart RPS.

2) Remove "Recovery Boot Disk V2.1" when the popup message dialog of "Remove Boot DVD"
appears, then insert DVD-R Media(blank).

3) When a flickering of LED lamp on DVD drive stops, left click [OK] button on the message dialog.

4) Confirm that the message as below appears, then input as ”X:¥ghost32.exe”.

5) Left-click [OK] button on the dialog of ”Abort Symantec Ghost”.

6) Select "Local" > "Disk" > "To Image" in order.

7) Select "Drive 1" and left click [OK] button.

Make sure to select the drive [@CD-R1 TEAC DV-W28S-W DVD drive]. If not selected ,
Recovery Image CD will not be created correctly.

9) Confirm that the selected file name is "[CDR00001.GHO]" then, left click [Save] button.

Confirm Initial Level and Area Offset setting.

(7) In case the confirmed Initial Level and Area Offset setting are the same as the recorded
settings, advance to 2.5 Step5: Confirming TT Settings.

Confirm TT settings.
In case the confirmed TT settings are different from the initial settings, initialize TT settings.

(1) Left-click on TT.


Confirm VD Level Mode(Manual), VD Level(Manual), VD Level(Auto) setting.
In case VD Level Mode(Manual) is Manual Threshold, VD Level(Manual) is 16, VD
Level(Auto) is 30, advance to (6).
Otherwise, advance to (2)

(2) Select Manual Threshold out of the pull-down menu of VD Level Mode(Manual)
window.

(3) Left-click on VD Level(Manual) window and Input 16.
