Notes:
This project is a DIY preamp distortion pedal derived from the Peavey Bandit 65. That would be the
earliest “silver stripe” version of the Bandit; the later 112 and definitely the modern Transtube versions
are a little different. Again, this is based off the oldest, “classic” version. It’s taken me a few years to get
it right, but we’re finally here…
A light to medium gain drive, this is almost more of an EQ and tone shaper pedal as it is not a high gain
distortion. Originally, this started off as a project for the HM-2 fans to run their black and orange pedals
into the LXV to recreate that “HM-2 into a Bandit” sound; but you should hopefully be able to pull some
QOTSA tones out of here, as well.
I’d consider this a “medium” difficulty project. Meaning, you’ve built a few working pedals before, can
source your own parts, and know how to troubleshoot your own build. If this is your first time, I’d
probably recommend a different project to cut your teeth on.
Please note that I do not offer direct support for these builds. You’re on your own!
Seriously though, there is a good building community at GCI DIY PCB builders group. This is a great place
to post questions, share your work, get tips and tricks, etc.
