II. NARRATIVE REPORT/EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

As per Regional memorandum No. 289 s. of 2021, Obando District conducted the
District Orientation of Brigada Pagbasa in the utilization of EGRA and Phil-IRI in the School
Year 2021-2022 thru Google meet and facebook live via streamyard last September 21,
2021, 1:00 in the afternoon.

The meeting formally started with the video presentation of stakeholders pledging the
support on Brigada Eskwela as part of the community strengthening advocacy of the district,
then followed by singing of the National Anthem and Prayer. Before the main activity, one of
the teachers from Salambao Elementary School, June Valeriano discussed the house rules
during the visrual meetings of participants. Eventualy, Dr. Ma. Lorena B. Cardenas as the
English Adviser welcomed all participants during the meeting. In addition, Dr. Edelmira S.
Dorega was also present and gave an overview of the orientation being conducted. The
attendance was checked by Mrs. Analiza M, Ramos of Obando Central School.

The following were the main segments and topics discussed during the meeting.
1. Kamustahan, presented by Cristina A. Sanchez, District Filipino Adviser
 Regional memorandum No. 289 s. of 202, Implementation Guidelines of
DepEd Memo No. 173 s. 2019, “Bawat Bata, Bumabasa(3Bs
Initiative)overview discussion.
 Scope of the regional guidelines to provide direction on promoting and
sustaining a culture of readingn as articulated in the framework of the
3Bs initiative.
 EGRA(Early Grade Reading Assessment) as reading assessment(Grade
1 to 3)
 Phil-IRI(Philippine Informal Reading Inventory) as reading assement
(Grade 4 to 6)
 School Reading Committee(Chairperson, Co-Chairman, Member and
Adviser)

2. EGRA(Early Grade Reading Assessment), presented and discussed by Ms. Mara


Denisse B. San Diego (Tawiran Elementary School) and Ms. Jernette B.
Espiritu(Catanghalan Elementary School).

 EGRA (Early Grade Reading Assessment), as a pre-existing reading


assement before the new normal has been given emphasis as vital part fo
Brigada Pagbasa under the Brigada Eskwela 2021-2022.
 EGRA processes: Orientation to Point (Show book), Letter name
Knowledge, Initial Sound Identification, Familiar words Reding, Invented
Word Decoding, Oral Passage Reading, Reading Comprehension,
Listening Comprehension and Dictation.
 Each school has to submit the EGRA summary of results on or before
the given due date

3. Phil-IRI(Philippine Informal Reading Inventory), presented and discussed by Ms.


Jenelyn DL. Eusebio (Head Teacher, Salambao Elementary School) and Ms. Maria
Roselle M. Mendoza (Tawiran Elementary School)
 Phil-IRI as designed for the new curriculum K-12 in 2013 functioned as
reading intervention.
 Phil-IRI as measurement and description of reading performace of Grade 4 to 6
learners.
 Three (3) aims namely: Frustration, Instruction and Independence; Three types
namely: Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension and Silent Reading
Comprehesnion.
 Describe the reading behavior, Group reading Level, Individual Reading Level
and Monitor growth and responses.
 Computations of the Phil-IRI Assessment
 Record, Report, Results( Will be uploaded on Learning Resources
Management Developlemy System)
4. Suggestions and Announcements of District Advisers of English and Filipino,
Madam Cristina A. Sanchez and Dr. Ma. Lorena B. Cardenas
 Action plans have been suggested to be written as soon as possible
 District consolidation has been given priority
 Topics must be specific, not broad. Readers do not decode
 Reading Assessmnet in CIP and innovation as schools best practices are
essential.
 Certificate of participation is given as per attendance using google forms.
 Take a selfie while watching the orientation as means of verification of
attending the orientation.
 “ Para sa Bata, Para sa Bayan”.

III. ACCOMPLISHMENT OF OBJECTIVES

 Oriented the participants to conduct EGRA and Phil-IRI in each of the


respective school which the results will be submitted on October 20, 2021

IV. POSITIVE ENCOUNTERS (What Went Well?)

 English and Filipino Advisers and Coordinators efficiently explained all


needed information relevant to the orientation
 Participants were very active in asking questions for much clearer
orientation (date of submission from first week of November moved on October
20, 2021).

V.MAJOR PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED (What Went Wrong?)

 The internet connection of either host/participants were unstable; some


technical issues such as presentation with no audio, glitches on screen.

VI. OTHER INSIGHTS/RECOMMENDATIONS

 EGRA and Phil-IRI shall be submitted on or before the due. Try to find
solutions of how the assessment is being done in a virtual method.
