1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 General
Water supply and sanitation is the very important substance for human life, so water supply and
sanitation program is highly priority of the government planning of Nepal. Out of total population
of Nepal only 83% have received the water supply facility till now. National sanitation coverage
has been estimated to be 100% the sanitation program are gradually linked with the water supply
program in recent days.
The detail engineering report of Bagchaur water supply and sanitation project Bagchour
Municipality -2 is outcome of the detail engineering survey and design prepared by Water Supply,
Irrigation and Energy Development Office 2019. The survey team carried out the detail survey and
collection of other additional data required for the preparation of detail engineering report. The
survey was carried out with standard guidelines and survey format adopted by DWSS. The team
also organized meeting with the beneficiaries and discussed about the proposed water supply
system and sanitation facilities and to confirm the commitments made by them on their contribution
and participation. The team also briefed the beneficiaries about their commitment and
responsibilities during the implementation of sub project and its operation and maintenance.
The feasibility study was carried out as required on the basis of required information as in the feasibility
study form prescribed by DWSS. Other techniques used for getting information are:
Social mapping: Exercise was carried out together socio-economics information on settlement
pattern, households’ location, existing infrastructure etc.
Focus group discussion ;
Direct observation, Technical survey and field investigation
History of previous projects, their condition and participatory approach on implementation and
O&M;
Community meeting;
Discussion with key informants;

2 SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROFILE
The proposed sub-project area is situated in Bagchaur municipality-2. It is about 37 km from District
headquarter.
Majority of ethnic groups in the project area are Thakuri. Minority of ethnic groups are Brahman, chhetri
and Dalits. The average households’ size is 6, there are 180 beneficiary household with 939 populations. The
social system is based on local tradition, payments in cash and kind for public services. Exchange labor is
practiced in irrigation and agriculture works People have positive attitude for contribution in public utilities
like trails, schools and drinking water system. There are no any development agencies working.
Agriculture is the dominant occupation in almost all the households. About 50% percent households own 5-
10 ropanies of non irrigable land. Dalits have less land having average about 2 ropanies. Food deficit
households account for 90%. Hence apart from agriculture the households also indulge themselves in other
activities like labor works in the road and some seasonal migration to India. Livestock rearing is also major
occupation of the community.
3 TECHNICAL ASPECTS
From field survey, it was found that spring down to village walking distance about half hour walk is the
major drinking water source of the community. The sub -project area has no drinking water system and
people are facing very hardship for drinking.
Proposed source is spring, which is clear with good taste. Though water quality has not been tested in lab but
as it has been using from very past, it can believed as safe drinking water source.
The water supply system have been designed on criteria referenced has been taken from Design Guidelines
(1993, HMG/N), Volume IV) and other relevant literature. Design criterion such as design period,
population growth rate, type of system, pressure requirement, etc. can be referred to standard DWSS Design
Guideline (1993).
2
3.4 Water Demand
Design period is taken as 20 years total water demand is calculated at design year for various type
of consumption. The breakdown of the water demand is given in Annex.
Discharge measurement was carryout by vessel and watch method. 10 liter bucket has been used as
measuring vessel. Discharge is sufficient to cater the demand of the community. Please see the salient
features .
Intakes
Spring Intakes are proposed as per the source and site condition. Safety of intake structures as well
as protection of source from pollution is taken into consideration in selecting the intake location.
The details of sources and proposed intakes are given in Annex.
No major adverse effects on agriculture land, forest, vegetation, ground water will be caused due to
implementation of these schemes. It will not create the problem of wastewater disposal and
drainage. No potential threat could be anticipated even in the long-term perspective.
There would not be any major threat to the forest because of excavation. Effort has to be made to
maintain the yield of the sources by taking safety measures like protection of source and
catchments area with plantation of more trees upstream of the source and arranging the appropriate
drainage downstream.
3
3.8 Sanitation
The survey indicate the all number of households have latrines. Reasons for not having latrines
hygiene in their houses were found to be mainly ignorance of the people on the importance of
sanitation, personal hygiene, and lack of knowledge on latrine construction techniques. The survey
team had discussed and finalized the latrine construction plans with WUSC members.
The operation and maintenance cost will be bored by the community. One VMW will be trained by DWSS,
and community will be responsible for remuneration of VMW.
4 FINANACIAL ASPECTS
4.1 General
Unit rate of each items are based on salyan market. Transportation cost is added in addition to price
at market. The cost and schedule of materials and labor of proposed components such as civil
structure, pipe and fittings, pipe laying and joining, pipe transportation, trench excavation and back
filling.
4.2 Construction materials
All the construction materials, except those available locally, are to be procured from the nearest
market. Locally available construction materials such as sand, aggregate and timber are approved
District rate of slayan. Except local material purchasing collection and transportation from based on
District Rate.
4.3 Summary of Cost Estimates
The project cost comprises of the cost required for conducting water supply and sanitation
component and sanitation structure including the cost of survey and design work and also material
and equipment like pipe fitting and tools. Grand total cost of the project is worked out adding 5%
contingencies expenses the total cost. For sanitation components are allocated. The summary of
project and scheme cost is given at the beginning of the report.
