ORG 204-10 Job Description – Offshore Nurse

1. TITLE : OFFSHORE NURSE


2. REPORTS TO (ADMIN. OFFSHORE) : MASTER / OCM
REPORTS TO (ADMIN. ONSHORE) : OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH COORDINATOR (OHC)
REPORTS TO (MEDICAL MATTERS) : RESPONSIBLE COMPETENT DIVING DOCTOR
(RCDD)
3. REPLACEMENT : OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH COORDINATOR (OHC)

4. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITY


The Offshore Nurse is responsible for the onboard Health Service under law; the Offshore
Nurse first priorities are to Health and Working Environment as outlined in below sections.
This prioritisation shall be respected by all involved parties, Ref. Health Personnel Act §16.

4.1. Health Tasks


x To provide first-line medical treatment for all personnel onboard the Ship.
x Advise all personnel in the Ship on health, hygiene and working environment related
matters.
x Attend Morning meeting and report general status with regards to: Health Service, Work
Environment and Project related Health activities.
x Keep medical files on all personnel consulting the onboard Health Service, log and report
the use of all medication administered.
x Verify that hygienic conditions on board the Ship are in accordance with Authority, Client
and Technip requirements.
x Keep and maintain medical supplies through regular inspections and stock checks.
x Give first aid training as outlined in training plan.
x During mobilisation give briefing on medical routines on board.
x Be familiar with the Ship, onboard hospital, medical stocks / equipment and emergency
procedures including setting up of emergency hospital for mass casualties.
x Work day shift in order to ensure availability for all personnel’s health related issues,
onshore follow-up and performance of nurse duties.
x Prepare and implement health related campaigns and information to all crew.

4.2. Working Environment Tasks


x Participate, as required, as neutral Health advisor in Working Environment Committee
meetings on board.
x Participate in Safety Committee meetings on board.
x Check that up-to-date chemical data sheet files are available in the Hospital.
x Observe and report on psychological factors that have the potential to impose excessive
stress on individuals.
x Observe and report on ergonomic effects of the working environment.
x Identify and report illness caused by the working environment.

x Supervise collection of samples for microbiological analysis.


x Review results from the latest Work Environment mapping initiatives performed onboard
and report status (Potable Water Analysis, Illumination Mapping, Noise Mapping, Vibration
Mapping, etc).

4.3. Administrative Tasks


x Assist with the ship’s Health and Medical administration as directed by the Master.
x Prepare weekly Health Service report to OHC and RCDD.
x Prepare monthly Health Service report to QHSES Manager, RCDD, OHC and Master
using the pre-defined reporting template.

5. QUALIFICATIONS
5.1. Education / Training
x State Registered Nurse with Norwegian Authorisation.
x Safety / Medical certification for offshore work.
x Have documented training in matters relating to the Working Environment or documented
experience satisfactory to the RCDD.
x Documented training in emergency medicine.
x English language.
x Preferred working knowledge of a Scandinavian Language.

5.2. Experience
x Minimum 2 years experience in medical emergency care, or 1-year experience in medical
emergency care and 1 year experience in occupational health. The validity of experience
has to be evaluated by the Technip Health Service individually.
x Minimum of 2 weeks practice within onshore Hospital emergency ward and pre-hospital
services during the last 18 months.
