For girls, it is recommended to check your breasts for possible masses or lumps the
moment you start menstruating. You should do this monthly, specifically one week after
the onset of menstruation. You can do this while taking a shower or facing the mirror. This
breast self-examination (BSE) can help females check any abnormalities that might need
medical help. Remember, there are normal changes during and right before menstruation
so it is better to perform BSE after menstruation. Develop the habit of doing BSE
monthly.
Scoliosis Screening
Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine curves to the side. It is an
abnormal lateral or side- to-side curvature of the spine. This condition
commonly develops during sudden brief of the growth of adolescents. It
affects girls more often. This condition can be corrected if treated early
before the bones have fully developed.

Write your insights inside the shapes below using the statements written in the arrow as your guide.
Arts and crafts are important means of expression, which communicate views, ideas, and feelings
through the use of skills and imagination. They are part of our daily lives and are found everywhere.
History tells us that even before the Spaniards came to our country, arts already existed and were used by
our ancestors as a part of their everyday lives.
Folk artists use different materials to create art works. These materials are called mediums. Some of
the media that artists use in art creation are crayons, colored markers, clay, and other indigenous materials.
Folk artists consider the elements of design such as line, color, texture, value space, shape, and form in
planning their art creation. They also combine visual elements by using principle designs. Like the
following:
5. Graduated Designs- a motif or pattern that is repeated but in graduated size from small to big, or if it is
color, from light to dark.
7. Asymmetrical balance-when one side of the composition is not identical to the other side.

ARTS AND CRAFTS OF LUZON
The arts and crafts of Luzon depict the rich culture and traditions of the Filipinos. The textiles
produced in every province signify their culture based on how they were made. The materials, the
techniques, and the symbols used in these arts and crafts have their own cultural and traditional significance.
The Ivatans are the people living in the Batanes Group of Islands. The Ivatan women used Vakul,
headgear, while the men wore soot, a raincoat, which are made up of woven fibers of vuyavuy,palm-a plant
similar to coconut. The Ifugaos make the lingling-o, which symbolizes fertility. They carve bul’ul, a
representation of their ancestor spirits, in their rituals. They practice tattooing as a part of their rich culture
and traditions. Another form of sculpture tradition in Luzon is the ukit of Laguna. Pottery is also found in the
arts and crafts of Luzon, particularly the Burnay of Ilocos. Architectures of the different provinces,
especially the churches, display the rich cultural heritage of the Spanish colonial period. Luzon is also
known for its festivals and celebrations that feature the different arts of the provinces- the kiping of Pahiyas
in Quezon, the higantes of Rizal, the singkaban of Bulacan and the lanterns of Pampanga. The prevalence of
these arts and crafts in contemporary times reveals our respect and appreciation for our traditions.

ARTS AND CRAFTS OF LUZON
(HIGHLANDS AND LOWLANDS)
Art is part of the life of the indigenous people of the Philippines. This is shown in the things that
they used every day which are rich in traditional colors and patterns. These art forms reflect their tribal
background.
When our forefathers first set foot on our country, they made use of the available materials for their
needs. They used coconut fronds (leaves) as roofs and walls for their huts. They used hardwoods and
timbers for posts. They also used coconut fronds (leaves) as roofs and walls for their huts. For their floors,
they flattened bamboo slices. The things they used at home are also made of native materials. They used
bamboo tube for cooking utensils and rattan or nito for baskets. Later on, they used durable materials that
added some refinements on their crafts. They improved their craftsmanship either from their own traditional
ways or from borrowing techniques used by other tribes.
These arts and crafts employ the different elements of art: line, color, shape and texture.

Quarter 1: Week 5 - 6
Music is one of the greatest creations of man. Creativity in the pure and undiluted form is the
true definition of Music. Music is an important part of our life as it is a way of expressing our
feelings as well as emotions.
Some people consider music as a way to escape from the pains of life. It gives you relief and
allows you to reduce the stress. Music is a powerful therapy that will calm you. Furthermore, it
develops the mind and boosts your self-confidence. Music plays a more important role in our life
than just being a source of entertainment.
Folk songs in the lowlands of Luzon have Spanish and other European influences. They are
written by the folk and are sung based on the livelihood of the community like farming, fishery, and
putting the baby to sleep.
The people created melodic chants and indigenous instruments based on the materials
available where they lived. The folk songs of Luzon lowlands are performed in their native
languages such as Ilocano, Pangasinense, Kapampangan, Tagalog, Bicolano, and others.
Elements of Music
PITCH - is the quality that makes it possible to judge sounds as "higher" and "lower"
in the sense associated with musical melodies.
DYNAMICS - All musical aspects relating to the relative loudness (or quietness) of
music fall under the general element of DYNAMICS. The terms used to describe dynamic
levels are often in Italian:
pianississimo [ppp] = (very, very quiet or soft)
pianissimo [pp] = (very quiet or soft)
piano [p] = (quiet or soft)
mezzo-piano [mp] = (moderately quiet or soft)
mezzo-forte [mf ] = (moderately loud)
forte [f ] = (loud)
fortissimo [ff ] = (very loud)
fortississimo [fff ] = (very, very loud)
Other basic terms relating to Dynamics are:
Crescendo: gradually getting LOUDER
Diminuendo (or decrescendo) : gradually getting QUIETER
ACCENT - “punching a note harder” or” leaning into a note” to emphasize it.
TIMBRE (or tone color) - refers to the quality of sound that distinguishes one
instrument from another. It is what makes a particular musical instrument or human voice
have a different sound from another, even when they play or sing the same note. For
instance, it is the difference in sound between a guitar and a piano playing the same note at
the same volume. There are basically six kinds of vocal registers that are used for describing
the vocal medium:

MUSIC OF LOWLANDS OF LUZON
Vocal and Instrumental Music
The lesson is an overview of the influences of colonization on the secular music of the
Lowlands of Luzon. Through the lesson, one will discover how Spanish-influenced dance
music and art songs express their feelings towards each other and the environment, their
history, and their religious beliefs through voice and musical instruments. Different types
of instrumental groups also emerged during the American & Japanese Era.
A group musical theatre performance of the vocal forms with accompaniment on found
objects and instruments of the Rondalla will culminate the educational experience.
