Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
a. demonstrate the rotation and revolution of the earth around the sun;
b. explain the difference between the rotation and revolution; and
c. create their own model of the earth’s rotation and revolution.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Earth’s Rotation and Revolution

Prayer
Okay class, stand up. Aldred, please Okay classmates, are you ready to pray.
lead the prayer.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed

be thy name. Thy kingdom
come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is
in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as
we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil.

Checking of Attendance
Students, who is absent today? No No one is absent today, teacher.
one is absent today that’s good!

B. Review
Before we proceed to our new lesson, Our topic yesterday is about
let us first have a recap. What is our _____________________.
lesson yesterday? What is it about?

C. Motivation
Let’s group you into two groups. The
first group will be staying here and
the other will be in the other side.
Think of your group name.

Who wants to play a game? Teacher, us!

Now, let’s play ANATOMY!
Here are the mechanics:
 Construct other words from the
given word in just one minute.
 The group who can list the most
number of words will receive
chips.

Are you ready to play? Yes we are!

First word: EARTH Heart, ear, the, hear, tar
One minute, starts now!
Time’s up!

Second word: ROTATION Rot, ton, tan, tin, rat, not, nor
One minute, starts now!
Time’s up!

Third word: REVOLUTION Evolution, lotion, rot, not, nut, nor, over,
One minute, starts now! ton, tin,
Time’s up!

D. Engagement
The words that were displayed earlier
have something to do with our new
lesson. It is about the Earth’s
Rotation and Revolution.

But before we proceed to our

discussion. Let’s have an activity.
This activity is entitled “You Spin
My Whole WORLD Around”

The mechanics are:

 One representative to pick your
task.
 Each group will demonstrate the
given task to you.
 All the members should
participate.
 After you perform you will
receive chips.

Task no.1
Demonstrate the rotation of the earth.
Make sure that everybody will have
their part. Be creative.

Task no.2
Demonstrate the revolution of the
earth around the sun. Make sure that
everybody will have their part. Be
creative.

You have four minutes to talk about The student will perform the task.
your task.
Okay, group one, present your work.

Okay, present your work group two.

Very good, class.

E. Exploration
This next activity is “Creating Your
Whole NEW WORLD” I will give
your team envelope; there are
instruction and materials inside. This
activity need to be done after five
minutes.
The student will make their own model.
Your time starts now!

Time’s up!

F. Explanation The student will listen carefully to the

You see the sun sets right? And if you discussion.
get up early enough maybe you see
the sun rise too. But have you ever
wondered if the sun sets and rise
every day, where does it go when we
can’t see it?

Well nowhere, it is actually us who

goes somewhere. Because we are on
earth and earth is always turning or
spinning on its axis.

Earth has an invisible line which we

called the axis. Axis is an invisible
line around which an object rotates or
spins. Earth spins around on its axis
like a top. This movement is called
rotation. Earth’s rotation gives us
day and night. If you are located on
the side facing the sun it is day and
when on the other side obviously its
night.

Actually earth is moving more ways

than one. At the same time the earth
rotating on its axis, it also orbits the
sun. This movement is what we
called revolution. One full orbit
around the sun is one revolution and
earth takes 365 days or one year to
complete a one revolution.

As the earth is both revolving and

rotating it is not sitting straight up, it
is actually tilted over 23.5 degree.
And it cause the one side of the earth
tilted over the sun while the other is
leaning away. It only means that
different parts of the earth gets
different amount of sunlight.

The earth creates pattern as it travels

around the sun. This pattern created
seasons. If the part of world you
living in is leaning over the sun it is
summer while the part that is leaning
away it is winter. And in between
those are autumn and spring.

If the world is not tilted we will

always have the same season over
and over again.

G. Elaboration The students will fill out the table given

ROTATION VS. REVOLUTION is by the teacher.
the last activity we have. Fill out the
table with the correct response.

H. Evaluation
1. Differentiate the revolution and rotation. (5 points)
2. Explain the pictograph below. (5 points)

IV. Assignment
Answer the following question.
1. Days and night are caused by
o The tilt of the Earth’s axis
o Earth’s revolution around the sun
o Earth’s rotation on its axis
2. Earth’s rotation takes about
o 365 days
o 6 months
o 24 hours
3. One complete revolution of earth around the sun takes about
o One rotation
o One year
o One eclipses
4. Earth has seasons because
o Earth rotates on its axis
o Earth’s axis is tilted as it moves around the sun
o The temperature of the sun changes
5. It is the star that provide us light and heat
o Sun
o Moon
o Earth
