6. Unlocking Difficulties
What did you observe in the song?
Ma’am there are words that has been
underlined in the lyrics.
Very good! So, tell us what are those
words and where part of the song you saw Ma’am, in the 1st Chorus the words are
it? 24hours and day and night. Meanwhile, in
the 2nd Chorus, the words are rotate and
spin has been underlined.
Great! What about the others?
Ma’am, I saw the underlined words in the
2nd stanza. The words are one year and
365.25 days. Also in the Bridge part, the
words are revolution, one year, rotation,
one day, and day and night.
Excellent! Based on what we sang
and the words underlined that you’ve
been answered.
What do you think is our topic for today? Ma’am I think it’s all about the Rotation
and Revolution of the Earth.
A great answer indeed!

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation and Discussion
Today class we are about to learn
the Earth’s Rotation and Revolution. We
will also know the difference between the
two. How come there is day and night?
What will happen if the Earth will not rotate?
We will also find out how long does it take for
the Earth to travel around the Sun? Also,
what causes the seasons?

First to understand the reasons behind it,

let us watch a video
(Film Viewing)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SzjlsuyTdk
What does the does the video talks The Earth’s rotation makes day and night
about the Earth? meanwhile the revolution movement
makes a year.

Great! I think you really watched the

video seriously.

Now, for further explanation the Earth is

turning on its own axis, this movement is called
rotation. Axis is an imaginary line which runs
through the center of the Earth between North and
South poles. The Earth is tilted on its axis.

Let’s have an activity. Kindly hold the

flashlight here and listen to my instructions.

Okay come over here, Eric.

We mark off the Philippines in the globe with Ma’am!
a tape. Please hold the flashlight at one meter
distance from the globe. I will Spin the globe
slowly. Observe as part of the globe goes into the
light and the other part move out.

So, what do you notice? Did the whole

globe receive light from the flashlight?

Great! When the other part receives light, Ma’am about half of the entire globe
what happens to the other part? received light from the flashlight. It is dark
on the side opposite the light source.

Ma’am, the Philippines faces the

Very Good! If the Philippines is facing the light source, other countries on the
light source, what countries are on the side opposite part of the globe is on the dark
opposite the light source? side.
Amazing!!!!
Now we all know how the Earth’ s rotation
in our activity the flashlight represents our Sun and
the globe represents our Earth.
It takes about 24 hours or one day for
Earth to make a complete rotation. There are about
12 hours of daytime and 12 hours of night time
which make one whole day.

The Earth rotates continuously so day follows night

and night follows day. Earth’s rotation causes day
and night. The Earth rotates in a counter clockwise
direction as seen above the North Pole and
clockwise as seen above the South Pole.
So, what will happen if the earth will not rotate?
The portion of the earth facing the sun would
always experience day, thus bringing continuous
warmth to the region. The other half would remain
in darkness and be freezing cold all the time. Life
would not have been possible in such extreme
conditions.
Now how about the revolution?
Meanwhile, the movement of the Earth around the
Sun is called revolution. The amount of time it takes
for a single trip around the Sun is called period of
revolution. The period for the Earth to revolve
around the sun is 365.25 days or 1 year. The .25
days is why every four years February has 29 days,
it referred as the leap year.

Let’s have an activity for this.

For now, we will draw a large circle.
The flashlight as the Sun will stand at the At the same time that the Earth spins on
center of the circle, its axis, it also orbits, or revolves around
Someone hold the globe as the Earth then the Sun.
will stand at the circumference of the circle, she/he
walk around the circle or orbit around the flashlight
as the Sun.

What do you observe?

Correct!

The Earth revolves around the Sun because

gravity keeps it in a roughly circular orbit around the
Sun. The Earth's orbital path is not a perfect circle,
but rather an ellipse, which means that it is like a
slight oval in shape. The Earth follows a definite
path called orbit and travels around the sun in a
counter clockwise direction.
As the Earth revolves around the sun, its
axis is tilted by ≈23.5 (≈ means approximately equal
to) degrees. Since the axis is tilted, the effects of
revolution of the Earth are different for different
parts of the globe. Certain areas are tipped
towards, or away from, the sun at different times of
the year. The causes of seasons is the axial tilt of
the Earth on its axis while revolving around Sun
regulates seasons on planet Earth with one of
the Hemisphere facing away or towards Sun. The
reason the Earth has seasons is that the Earth is
tilted ≈23.50 degrees on its axis.

C. Generalization Ma’am the rotation is the Earth turning on

Excellent Kids!
Now, you know the difference of Earth’s
movement and the effects of it.
We will have an activity.

D. Application

Group Activity. I will group you into four.

Before we start, what are the rules to follow in
group activity.
Everybody, read…… 1. Come prepared and on time.
2. Respect, fellow students – critique

This is your rubric for about 5 minutes you should
finish your activity.

Then tell me how was your experience doing this

activity? Do Earth’s movements have a good or bad
effect in our daily lives?

E. Checking of Activity
