History of Bicol

 Bicol region was known as Ibalon

About Albay ( land of the most perfect cone)

 Capital- Legazpi City


 Albay is a province of the Philippines located in the Bicol Region in Southeastern Luzon Island. 
 The citizens of Albay are called Albanyanos - ALBAYANOS are resilient, gracious, happy and
accommodating who go out of their way to make visitors’ stay in the province comfortable,
relaxed, and worry-free.
 Bikol is the primary language spoken in Albay

Festivals
 ALINAO FESTIVAL- Malinao, Albay(July 20-26)- it is an annual tribute to the lost tree of alinao
on the mountains of malinao.
 Ibalong festival- celebrated every second week of October in legazpi City- The festival
celebrates the epic story Ibalong who was accompanied by three legendary heroes, namely
Baltog, Handyong, and Bantong
 Magayon festival- may 1-31 - It is a celebration of the Albayano’s way of life and a thanksgiving
for the abundance of the land’s plentiful harvest through various activities
 Tabak festival- June 16- 25 - The Tabak Festival celebrates the city’s renowned craft of making
the Tabak, a type of sword used mostly by farmers to cut through shrubs and other plants to
clear a field or just plainly cut open a fresh coconut
 Pinangat Festival- Camalig, albay (June 10-24)- coinciding with the Camalig Town Fiesta in
honor of the town’s patron saint, St. John the Baptist. The festival's name is acquired through the
world-famous native food delicacy of the municipality which is the pinangat
- Agriculture is the major industry in Albay, which produces crops like coconut, rice, sugar, and
abacá. Handicrafts are the major source of rural income.

CAMARINES SUR
- Its capital is pili
- Camarines Sur is a province in the Philippines situated in the Bicol Region occupying the
southeastern peninsula of Luzon and the outlying island provinces of Masbate and
Catanduanes.
- Known as the home of the worlds smallest fish “ the sinarapan”

People and Culture

- The province is also the center of religious observances. There are numerous festivals that
prove how devoted the people are to their religion.
-  the main language spoken in Camarines Sur are Coastal Bikol and Inland Bikol. A dialect of
Coastal Bikol, called Bikol Partido is used in the eastern portion of the province around
Lagonoy Gulf. Filipino linguists consider the dialect of Coastal Bikol called Bikol Central spoken
around Naga City .

- Agri-based, producing rice, corn, feedmeal, freshwater fish, livestock.

Festivals

Harana Festival- ( feb.11-15)- the festival feature local talents and young artists in its efforts to
promote cultural awareness.

Karanowan Festival- Feb. 15, Bato, Camarines Sur- A celebration promoting the rich aquatic
resources of Lake Bato. 

Baybayon festival- April 15-17- A summer festival held at the beach-side in Sagñay town in the
Partido district in the province of Camarines Sur.

Boa- Boahan Festival- may 2 - A festival held every 2nd of May, enriched with colorful
costumes and awe-inspiring performances from different barangays.

Kaogma Festival- may 24-31- The Kaogma Festival marks the foundation anniversary of the
Province of Camarines Sur. The week-long festival features numerous activities such as cultural
expositions, sports events, a beauty pageant, and the Grand Parade.

- Camarines Norte Province is a crescent-shaped province that stretches northwest to
the southeast. It faces Lamon Bay and the Pacific Ocean on the northeast and is
bounded on the south by Camarines Sur and a portion of Quezon.

Pinyasan Festival- June 23- 27 in Daet, Camarines Norte- a colorful festival
showcasing the province’s primary agricultural product, pineapple
Bantayog Festival- April 25- a historical commemorating festival in Camarines Norte
that features the first Rizal monument which is also the centerpiece of the celebration
held simultaneous with the foundation anniversary of the province.
Mananap festival- April 23- 29- San Vicente, Camarines Norte- a celebration of the
province's rich cultural heritage and natural wonders.
Kadagatan Festival- Aug. 1-8- t is a fishermen’s celebration of thanksgiving for the
blessing and bounty during the seafaring, fishing expedition and fish farming endeavors.
Palong Festival- May 10-13- Capalonga, Camarines Norte- Higlighted by a street
dancing and agro industrial fair, this festival expresses the gratitude of local folks for
abundance signified by the rooster.

Catanduanes
- The 12th – largest Island in the Philippines
- Its Capital is Virac
- Known as “the Land of the Howling Winds” and “ The Happy Island”
- The island is surrounded by Maqueda Channel in the west, Lagonoy Gulf in the south and
Philippine Sea in the north and east.
- It is situated off the coast of Bicol and faces the Pacific Ocean.

- Catandungan Festival – Oct. 24- 26 Virac, Catanduanes- It’s an event that celebrates

celebrated by the seven barangays of Hitoma in Caramoran that produces sugbo or tiger
grass - a bamboo like perennial grass used to make brooms.
- Padadyao sa Tinampo- Oct. 24- is purely native cultural presentation of street
dancing held every 24 October to commemorate the province‘s founding
anniversary.

SORSOGON
- It is the southernmost province in Luzon and is subdivided into fourteen municipalities and one
city. Its capital is Sorsogon City and borders the province of Albay to the north.

Farming, fishing, livestock, poultry raising, and copra- making. Cottage industries include
handicraft, pottery and food preservation

Festivals
- Kasanggayahan Festival- every month of October-  Highlighted by street dancers
performing the traditional Bikolano dance Pantomina, also known as Sinalampati,
which tells of love and courtship by imitating the movement of doves.
- Pili Festival – July 28- 29- Celebrations include street dancing by locals donning
pili nut costumes, cooking competitions, fireworks displays, and even a
nutcracking session along the road by the locals.
- Butanding festival- May 17- 24- A festival which ushers in the Butanding
(Whaleshark) Season as well as a thanksgiving for the blessings that the
butanding’s presence has given the people of Donsol.
- Padaraw Festival- May 30 - A festival showcasing colorful costumes fashioned from
abaca fiber. It is highlighted by a grand street presentation with the participants
clad in these colorful abaca costumes.

- More than half of the people of Masbate speak Masbateño a language that is closely related to
Hiligaynon and Capiznon

FESTIVALS-

RODEO festival- April 12- 17- an annual event which takes place in Masbate City which
showcases skills in livestock handling, such as lassoing, wrestling, and riding cattle.

Lapay Bantigue Dance Festival- September 30- This event highlights the traditional folk dance
created by “Lola Felisa” many years ago, when she imitated the graceful movement of the
seagull (locally known as Lapay)

Corn Festival- Famous for the people dancing on glowing embers. The celebration is a ritual
for thanksgiving after the plentiful corn harvest.
