Hello Everyone.
There isn't anything that I can say about our beautiful, dutiful late Queen
Elizabeth 11, that hasn't already been said many times. However, I think it is
worth remembering that although born into the Royal Family, she was not born
to be Queen – or was she?
Sir Winston Churchill on a visit to Balmoral, September 1928 noted the already
stunning qualities of the 2yr old princess. 'She is a character. She has an air of
authority and reflectiveness astonishing in an infant.' Elizabeth was just 11
when her uncle abdicated and thrust Queenship on her. No doubt she was
expecting many years before the Crown would fall to her.
Queen Elizabeth's reign was fraught throughout with many personal traumas
and sadness's, but her unshakable faith and a wicked sense of humour helped
to sustain her. This is a true and local anecdote:- The Queen, dressed in head
scarf, long Macintosh and wellies, was walking along the beach at Holkham
with a couple of dogs and her bodyguard, when a couple of American tourists
engaged them in conversation, saying how excited they were to be visiting
Sandringham village. They asked the Queen if she was local. Queen replied
that indeed she lived in Sandringham. Then one of them asked her if she knew
the Queen!? Without batting an eyelid, the Queen replied that not really, but this
gentleman (bodyguard) has met her a few times! And oft they went excited that
they had spoken to someone who knows the Queen!
Another of her great attributes was her ability to change with the times; the
huge change in communications and technology, she mastered and although
you never saw any 'make-overs,' she always managed to look modern and 'of
the age.’
Elizabeth the Great, is a fitting tribute. She was one special lady and an era has
ended, but we must relish the future with King Charles 111.
We will never forget that afternoon tea with Paddington – just brilliant. Thank
you for everything Ma'am. Gina

TO ALL PARISHIONERS
TO ALL PARISHIONERS
As a nation we are still in deep shock at the sudden loss of our
beloved Queen Elizabeth II. One day she welcomed her fifteenth
Prime Minister - and less than forty-eight hours later she was no
longer alive. She has been a constant, faithful stabilising force for
good in our lives, our country and the world for over 70 years; now
she is gone. The Queen's presence as the devoted Monarch of all her subjects have
resonated here in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, in the realms, the
Commonwealth countries and throughout the world.
Death is a huge shock - even if it is expected. It is the finality of death, the emotional
void left in its wake, which paralyses us with grief and shock. In time this gap will be
filled with memories old and new - and emotionally we may regain some equilibrium.
But this is a long process - of which we, as a nation, are just at the start.
The strange duality of this time means that we must also welcome as our new
Sovereign Lord King Charles III, who acceded to the throne immediately following
the death of his beloved mother. It seems strange to be singing in the National
Anthem: “God Save the King.”
We are unrivalled in our ability for large-scale pageantry, for disciplined pomp and
ceremonial wonder in the wake of huge national events. The death of our Sovereign
and the accession to the throne of her beloved son, now our esteemed King Charles
III, are just such times when we will proudly be holding our own on the world stage.
As Supreme Head of the Church of England: Defender of the Faith, Queen
Elizabeth's personal Christian faith, her self-proclaimed 'anchor' was increasingly
perceptible in her broadcasts - especially in times of national crisis such as Covid.
She was a beacon of light in our dark times as a nation, steadfastly reassuring and
upholding us. In the Covid crisis, with echoes of the indomitable wartime spirit during
World War II she said: “We will see our friends gain, we will see our families again,
we will meet again.” She also had a great sense of fun and perfect comic timing,
having recently co-starred with James Bond and memorably in her Platinum Jubilee
celebrations, Paddington Bear.
As Christians we derive comfort from our hope-filled faith: the sadness of parting
becomes the joy of heaven, our deep sadness and sense of loss always mitigated by
the abiding hope of resurrection glory.
Jesus, on the night before His death, prayed to the Father: “I have glorified you on
earth, having completed the work which you gave me to do.” I think we would agree
that nowhere is this more vividly personified for our time and for all time than in the
life and work of our late Monarch. And for us our lives and good works here on earth
will continue, inspired by her incomparable example.
Our dear Sovereign Lady of blessed and glorious memory Queen Elizabeth II - now
reunited with her beloved Philip, her parents and all those saints who have gone
before her: Rest eternal grant unto her O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon her.
May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Amen. Rev. Judith

Gayton Jubilee Hall
Good day to you all and I hope that everyone is healthy and enjoying the
transformation from a beautiful seasonal summer to the dewy mornings of the
approach of Autumn.
I had a meeting with Rev. Sue Martin and we will try to work together to the benefit of
the Village, especially those, young and old, who may find themselves short of
essentials for the Winter.
The idea was for a kind of food bank and we are just looking at the logistics, but we
will hopefully have an announcement at some stage soon.
If anyone has any input they would like to be heard then the next meeting will be on
Wednesday 5 October at 6 pm or please get in touch via the web site or messenger.
To other matters, we are now hiring out equipment from the Hall. This will consist of
short term hire – up to 72 hours – of items below:
Tables £5 * Chairs £1 * Cup and saucer 50p * Plates 50p
Each hire will be subject to a deposit equivalent to the amount of the hire.
Please drop us a line on our Facebook page for further details.
It is encouraging that more people are beginning to take an interest in our coffee
mornings and are offering themselves moving forward. The coffee mornings in
particular are attracting different people each week and for this our thanks go out to
Sandi for her efforts in this regard.
WE STILL NEED PEOPLE TO HELP US ON A ONE OFF BASIS OR TO PROMOTE
NEW EVENTS AT THE HALL. We are continuing the search for a new secretary.
Private bookings continue apace, and it is great to get comments such as we had
from a local hirer recently who was full of praise for the Hall.
Anyone wanting to hire the hall please get in touch via our Facebook page - Gayton
Jubilee Village Hall.
Looking to the future and in particular Christmas we are on track for our Christmas
Fayre on Saturday 3 December during the day, followed by a Bingo in the
evening
We will be offering a free Christmas Dinner for the wonderful people that have
supported us through the year plus a few invitations for qualifying villagers on
Tuesday 6 December
In previous years we have had an amazing response from business’s locally, and not
so local, and the begging letters will be going out very soon !!!!!
Coffee mornings from 10 till 1.30 on Tuesdays are doing very well and the Trustees
are also encouraged by the ongoing meetings with Sue from the church, and our
working with other local establishments such as the Mill, so please support us if you
can.
Our next Meeting at the Hall is on Wednesday 5 October at 6 pm Robert Holden

Gina's Page: a page of fun things
I came across this recipe a couple of months ago and it has become a real
favourite. This is for two people but can obviously be sized up for more.
Put the oil, garam masala, mango chutney and a generous pinch of salt in a
medium bowl and mix well. Add the cheese and vegetables and leave for at least a
couple of hours to infuse. Then place on an oiled baking tray and cook for 15mins
at 180°. Check how they are cooking, turn them and turn the oven up to 200° for a
further 5 mins. Serve on a bed of rice. We use the little Tilda flavoured rice,
Paper Pumpkin.
To make this little pumpkin, you’ll need a
piece of orange card. Use a ruler to mark out
eight strips. Place your card strips in a circular
arrangement, and hold them together using a
split pin. .Then you need to repeat this,
gathering together all the opposite ends of the
strips of card to form your 3D pumpkin shape.
Use a second split pin to hold them in place,
adding a piece of green card on the top to
make a stalk. Decorate your pumpkin.

Compost Corner.
October is such an exciting time in the garden and greenhouse. Time to clear out
tomato/cucumber/pepper plants from the greenhouse and give it a good tidy up
before we have to reload it with things that need protecting for the winter. Time to
mulch the beds and borders, so we can empty the compost bins. Time to collect
seeds if you haven't already done so, and indeed, set some annuals like cornflowers,
poppies, forget-me-nots, Californian poppies and marigolds that can be sown where
they are to flower. Others like Amus Majus and some annual grasses will benefit
from a bit of protection. Sweet peas can be sown outside to get an earlier crop; ditto
broad beans and spinach; these all may need a bit of protection if we have severe
frosts or snow.
I must admit, I am the sort of gardener that cuts things down for the winter except the
ornamental grasses. It is easier to mulch and looks neater, but now we are supposed
to leave things for bugs etc to hibernate in. Then there is the utter excitement of
planting the Spring bulbs. Daffodils, Narcissi, crocus and miniature Iris's first
because they flower earlier followed by the rich colours and designs of the Tulips. I
love Tulips and with a bit of careful planning, you can have this patchwork of colour
from late March to mid-May. Just wonderful.
If you are lucky enough to be able to have a bonfire, please remember hedgehogs
might be hibernating. Also please remember the Plant Stall next May. If you are
dividing or potting on or setting seeds, set a few extra for the stall. Happy
gardening.

GAYTON FUEL ALLOTMENT CHARITY TRUST
Registered Charity Number 243083
It is now the time of the year when I ask for applicant's to apply to the Charity for the
annual distribution.
Just to remind you what the words Fuel Allotment means.
In years past the poor of the Parish were given coal (fuel) to help them over the
winter. Today very few people use coal so the Charity has changed it to Electricity or
whatever type of fuel you use. The money is paid by cheque so it's up to you how
you spend it. The amount you receive depends on the number of applicants.
The application form is simple just one form all we ask is that you receive at least
one social benefit the 25% discount on single occupancy is not a benefit and will not
be accepted.
With the current cost of electricity you should consider applying. You must have been
a resident of Gayton or Gayton Thorpe for 5 years.
Applicants who have applied in the past will automatically receive an application
form. New applicants can collect a form from the table at the back of the Church or
from me I do not post them out.
Forms must be returned to me by 5th November in time for the Trustees
meeting on 7th November.

Thank You
I would like to thank my family, Craig, Sarah, Conner, Theo and Oakley, for coming
from Fakenham on the hottest day, to cut back the brambles etc and cutting the
hedge at East Walton church. It looks so much better now and access to graves is
easier. Julie Brewster

Grimston CC September Update
As the cricket season comes to a close, it is a great time to reflect back
upon a golden summer of cricket for our villages - with success both on-
and-off the field.
We had a great pizza evening at the pavilion to finish off our fantastic season.
Thanks to all who have supported the club
We look forward to continuing to work hard over the winter, and get everything in
place ready for an amazing 2023!! Sam Adkin
And Finally....
