DESCRIPTION:

A modification is available to improve wheel motor oil drainage. It allows for quicker drainage, and also
enables more oil to be drained from the wheel motor.
The modification consists of drilling thru holes into the oil chamber from four cap screw holes. Refer to
Figure 2. This procedure can only be performed during wheel motor rebuild. The four cap screws will
serve as the oil plugs. The current oil plugs are to be removed and internal plugs installed in place.
NOTE: Some wheel motors (part numbers PC2355 & PC2336) may already include the update. To
identify an updated wheel motor, check for dimples on the outside circumference of the low speed carrier.
There will be a dimple adjacent to each of the four drain holes. Refer to Figure 5.

PROCEDURE
1. Remove the low speed and high speed transmissions from torque tube (1, Figure 1). The torque tube
must be empty when drilling.
2. Locate index pin (2). Drill the cap screw hole directly to the right of the pin, as shown in Figure 4.
Use a 29 mm (1 5/32 in.) drill bit. DO NOT damage the threads when drilling.
3. Locate the remaining three holes and drill. The holes are 90° apart (nine cap screw holes). Refer to
Figure 4.
4. Smooth any burrs in the torque tube, remove all metal debris and clean.
5. Install eight allen head or square head plugs into the old drain plug holes as shown in Figure 3. The
drain plug thread is 3/8 in. NPT. A sealant may be used, but is not required. The previous plugs are
no longer to be used.
6. Assemble the wheel motor and install the low speed carrier cap screws. Sealant is not required for
the drilled cap screw holes.

7. After all cap screws are installed and properly tightened, locate the four drain hole cap screws. Paint
the cap screw heads for temporary identification.
8. Drill a dimple into the low speed carrier adjacent to each drain hole as shown in Figure 5. Use a 9.5
mm (3/8 in.) drill bit. Drill each hole approximately 3.3 mm (0.13 in.) deep.
