Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric – Task 3 Technology and human


development

1. Activity Description

Type of activity: Collaborative


Evaluation moment: Intermediate Unit 2

With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:

The student will be able to write about past and future events, give recommendations
and express his/her opinion using phrasal verbs, as well as conditionals.

The activity consists of:

Write clearly a text about this topic: “How technology has changed human life”,
for that, you must do the following:

- Use “Phrasal verbs” to express actions, certainty, possibility, and doubt.


- Talk about past events.
- Use “If clauses” to express future meaning and hypothetical situations.
- Give advice and recommendations.
- Write a three-paragraph essay.

Dear Student,

You must consider the following aspects to write the essay. It must contain three
paragraphs, as follows:

- Introduction: how technology has affected or benefited human life.


- Development: explain your reasons to support your ideas.
- Closing: give some conclusions about previous paragraphs.

✓ You will develop this task in the Writing forum by six stages.
✓ At the end of this task, you will consolidate the information of the stages 1 to 5 in
a final document.
✓ Follow the steps in each stage; post your contributions in the forum and get
feedback from your tutor.
✓ Ask and answer questions regarding stage 5.
✓ The final product must be sent individually.

Stage 1: (First Paragraph of the essay-introduction) Technology and human


life (1st week)

Write a paragraph (minimum 150 words) about how technology has affected or
benefited human life. Use and highlight 3 phrasal verbs in their past participle form.

To write the introductory paragraph, it’s recommended to check the information


found in annexes 1. Phrasal verbs, and 2. Paragraph One: Introduction.

Stage 2: (Second paragraph of the essay-body) Technology and human


development (2nd week)

Write a paragraph (minimum 200 words) giving 3 reasons or arguments about why
technology will have impacted positively or negatively human development. It’s
necessary to support your arguments and ideas quoting the source were the

information was taken from. Use and highlight 2 sentences in the paragraph using the
future perfect tense.

To write the body paragraph, it’s recommended to check the information found in
annexes 3. Future perfect, and 4. Paragraph two: Body.

Stage 3: (Third paragraph of the essay-closing) Conclusions (3rd week)

Write a paragraph (minimum 200 words) giving your conclusions about paragraphs 1
and 2. It’s necessary to include 3 sentences using the first conditional.

To write the conclusion paragraph, it’s recommended to check the information found
in annexes 5. First conditional, and 6. Paragraph three: Conclusion.

Stage 4: (Consolidation of the three paragraphs of the essay) consolidate the


essay (3rd week)

According to the previous stages, you will consolidate the information in a three-essay
paragraph including a title for it.

Stage 5: (Collaborative work) ask and answer (3rd week)

• Ask two questions about technology and human development using the second
conditional.
• Choose and answer one question asked by your partners. Use at least 70 words
to answer.

To develop this stage, it’s recommended to check the information found in annex 7.

Stage 6: (Final delivery) consolidate your work (3rd week)

- Consolidate the information of all the stages in a PDF document and submit it to the
Evaluation Environment (individually). The document must be presented in text
format (no image) in order Turnitin can check its content, otherwise it will be not
graded.

For the development of the activity consider that:

In the Initial Information Environment, you must:

- Check the agenda out to verify the opening and closing dates of the task

In the Learning Environment, you must:

- Check out and study the Online Content (Level B2 from module 1 to module 4).
Enter the forum and participate in the development of Individual and
Collaborative tasks.

In the Evaluation Environment, you must:

- Upload one PDF format document with all the information required.

• The members of the group must participate in the forum by asking and answering
questions about the paragraphs designed during the stages, creating a discussion
among them. Besides, they must recommend and give feedback to the partners’
contributions, in order to enrich the discussion.

• For this work, there is no roles to perform.

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidences to Submit

For Collaborative evidences, consider the following:

• Every student must participate with academic’s contributions during the stages
by asking and answering questions about the proposed topic.

• Before delivering the suggested product, all the requirements indicated in this
activity guide must be checked.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA style.
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found in the virtual
campus.

Under the Academic Code of Conduct, the actions that infringe the academic order,
among others, are the following: paragraph e) Plagiarism is to present as your own
work all or part of a written report, task or document of invention carried out by
another person. It also implies the use of citations or lack of references, or it
includes citations where there is no match between these and the reference and

The academic penalties students will face are:
