6.0 Design of Special Confining Hoops :


(As per Clause 7.4 of IS13920)
As per Clause 7.4.1 of IS 13920:1993, special confining reinforcement shall be
provided over a length Lo, where flexure yielding may occur.

> 600 mm larger lateral dimension of member.


Lo > 508 mm 1/6 th of clear span
> 450 mm
Provide confining reinforcement for a length Lo of 600 mm from each joint face
towards midspan.

As per Clause 7.4.2 of IS 13920 : 1993 , special confining reinforcement shall


extend for minimum 300 mm into the footing.

As per Clause 7.4.6 of Is 13920: 1993, the spacing , S, of special confining


reinforcement is governed by :

= 75 mm 1/4 th of minimum dimension of cloumn


Maxium spacing of confining Stirrups, S shall be
minimum of > 75 mm
≤ 100 mm
Provide confining reinforcement at a spacing of 75 mm for a length of Lo.
(As per Clause 7.4.8 of IS13920)
