Abstract

Social media is an omnipresent part of everyday life. It provides users with an

easy way to engage and connect with others without meeting face-to-face. This
form of communication provides a lot of opportunity for companies and
individuals to reach a massive audience. What is the purpose of social media, and
how does it tie into science? Well, you see, it all depends on who you know and
how active your social media presence is. Is there a benefit for sharing research
across social media? The benefits of social media stem from active participation
and the generation of new attractive content from an individual. Research is about
producing new information, and social media offers unique opportunities to present
new content.

The Impact of Social Media on Intercultural Adaptation
Title article

Author: Rebecca Sawyer & Guo-Ming Chen University of Rhode Island,

USA Year: 2 (2012)

Abstract:

Social media has become increasingly popular components of our everyday life in
today’s globalizing society. It provides a context where people across the world
can communicate, exchange messages, share knowledge, and interact with each
other regardless of the distance that separates them. Intercultural adaptation
involves the process of promoting understanding through interaction to increase
the level of fitness so that the demands of a new cultural environment can be met.
Research shows that people tend to use social media to become more integrated
into the host culture during their adaptation and to maintain connections to their
home countries. This paper attempts to investigate the impact of using social media
on the intercultural adaptation process. In-depth interviews of international
students of a U.S. university are conducted. Based on the results of the analysis,
directions for future studies in this line of research are also discussed.

Social Media:Influences and Impacts on Culture

Title article

Authors: Mui joo Tang & Eang Teng chan

July 2020

Abstract
Advanced technologies of communication have brought influences and impacts on cultures.
There are views that the influences and impacts are brought forward by social media which has
been a powerful tool that can affect and form human behaviors as well as culture. Social media
may have crossed the boundaries of culture due to the concept of borderless. Facebook may have
been the social media that connects people around the world with massive cultural backgrounds
to meet at the platform. The media content uploaded may spark the invasion of culture. There are
many other social media which come with influencers that may shout about different values and
practices around. Local cultures had therefore slowly lost their identities and replaced with a
cross-cultural phenomenon. The cultural values invaded may include human behaviors, beliefs,
values or even fashion and lifestyle. This research is to examine the factors of cross cultural
communication, the reasons of culture being influenced by foreign countries through social
media and the possibility of cultural invasion through social media. Social Influence theory is
used in this research. Social influence occurs when a person’s emotions, opinions or behaviors
are affected by others intentionally or unintentionally. Online survey Google Form is used at the
target of 150 respondents aged between 18 to 25 years old. There is a contradicting view that
people will lose their own culture after viewing too much of online content. The online activities
and actions will slowly lead them to the change without their realization.

Author: Radwan, M

Abstract

Cultural identity refers to the identical compound of reminiscences, impressions, ideologies,

images, idioms, inventions, and ambitions that maintains a human set’s civilizational identity
within the framework of what it knows of developments due to its internal dynamism and its
ability to communicate or give and take. Social Media’s deep effect on cultural identity is a
matter of constant concern. Therefore, the main aim of this research was to recognize the effect
of social media on some components of rural people’s cultural identity. This study was
conducted on 360 respondents from rural people in Bamha village, Egypt. Our data were
collected using a questionnaire in December 2021 and then analyzed using descriptive statistics,
Pearson’s simple correlation coefficient, chi-square, and the ascending multiple regression
correlation analysis model (Stepwise). The results showed that for two-fifths of the respondents
(40%) the level of change in cultural identity was high in relation to their use of social media;
there is a significant relationship between some independent variables of respondents and the
degree of change in their cultural identity. These results have important implications for policy,
practice, and subsequent research, the most important of which are: working on developing
thinking skills and self-learning among students in schools and universities, as well as the need
to activate the role of the media in providing meaningful content that preserves societal values, in
addition to employing social media to support community participation of young people on the
ground by organizing awareness, volunteer and charitable activities, and finally the need to
increase cooperation and coordination between all parties, whether they are media, schools,
religious or civil institutions, youth centers, or other institutions to maximize the positive use of
social media and to reduce its negative effects. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41599-022-

ABSTRACT

Social networking has become a common international trend which has spread its reach to almost
every corner of the world. The use of Social media sites have exploded and evolved into an
online platform where people create content, share it, bookmark it and network at a prodigious
rate. Among the prominent users of the social media are the students. This research assesses the
impact of social media sites on student academic performance in Samuel Adegboyega
University. Four research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted
descriptive survey design. The population used as sample were students from Samuel
Adegboyega University in Edo state. A validated questionnaire with 0.96 reliability was used for
data collection. Frequency counts, percentage and mean were the quantitative statistics used. The
inferential statistics was applied to assess the significance of the hypothesis. Analysis of
Variance (ANOVA) was the technique of estimation and the Fstatistic was used to determine
whether the hypotheses was significant at 0.05. The result shows that there is significant
relationship between time spent on social media sites and academic works. It also revealed that
the nature of social media activities which the student engages in does not have any significant
impact on the student academic performance. In addition the study also shows that the gender of
the student has no impact on the usage and activities of social media Key words: Internet, Social

Abstract:
Social media has been a major part of our daily lives. It totally effected our culture in positive
and negative ways. There are so many positive impacts of social media on our culture. Social
media increased the connections between people and created an environment in which you can
share your opinions, pictures and lots of stuff. Social media improved creativity and social
awareness for our society by interacting with other people and sharing new ideas and opinions. It
is also important for any business because at some point, you need to use social media in your
business.  Social media developed international business and marketing. People prefer to buy
stuff online. Social media created an opportunity to widen your world and make new friends
from other countries. It is easier to learn about breaking news on social media because it has
unlimited access and flexibility. On the other hand, social media has influenced our culture in
negative ways. People can share whatever they want to on social media and some of them might
be inappropriate pictures.  People has become more conservative about each other’s point of
view. People started to argue about each other’s perspective related to political view, religion,
social rights and culture. Social media had negative effect on youth. It reduced physical
activities. People prefer to sit all day in front of computers and chat. Social media also has
influenced youth in negative ways. Kids might be affected and manipulated by some sites in
which there is inappropriate information. The ugly part of social media is that there is tons of
unnecessary information shared by people and also bullying and harassment on social media has
been increased. People can make brutal and negative comments about anything and anyone.
