Suggested Specification
For WG10/1-C, ZM-LN

Provide a forced draft automatic burner designed to burn (Fuel type) at a rate of (Firing
rate) MBTU/HR.

The burner shall comply with the following specification features:

General:

 Modulating gas burner complete with fan and flame retention combustion head,
electronic ignition unit, air pressure switch and electronic combustion manager.
 Gas train with two safety shut-off valves, one of which shall be a multi-function
gas valve/regulator assembly certified in accordance with ANSI Z21.21 / CSA 6.5
and marked C/I.

Fan:

 Centrifugal blower, close coupled to 110VAC, 60Hz single phase motor with
capacitor start.
 Motor complete with capacitor mounted to the motor housing
 Motor housing shall be easily removed for service by removing four bolts when
the burner is in service position.
 Fan motor electrical connection of the coded plug type.

Burner Housing:

 Cast aluminum burner housing complete with separate mounting flange for
bolting to the heat exchanger.
 Burner capable of being swung way from the heat exchanger on the mounting
flange for easy access to the nozzle and ignition electrodes.
 Removable fan compartment cover on which the burner motor, fan and mixing
head are mounted can be moved to a service position. This position allows the
fan to be removed without disconnecting any of the mounted electrical
components.

Air Intake:

 Air regulation achieved via a flat-blade air intake louver on the suction side
 Air louver controlled by a dedicated stepper motor having 900 settable
increments from 90 angular degrees (open) to 0 angular degrees (closed).
 Air louver shall be driven to the fully closed position during the “off” cycle to
minimize draft losses.
 Air intake lined with foam, sound attenuating material to minimize noise levels.
Combustion Head:

 Stainless steel flame tube and removable diffuser and nozzle assembly
 Flame tube spun-formed for maximum concentricity.
 Flame tube and diffuser assembly with temperature rating of >1450 F
 Combustion head adjustable such that the pressure drop across the diffuser can
be optimized to match the maximum firing rate of the burner. Diffuser adjustable
during burner firing by means of a screw
 Diffuser/nozzle assembly (mixing head) removable from the burner without
dismounting the burner from the heat exchanger and by simply removing four
screws.
 Mixing head with integrated sight glass, ignition wires and ignition electrode.

Gas Butterfly:

 Gas butterfly valve integral to the burner and shall be controlled by a dedicated
stepper motor having 900 settable increments from 90 angular degrees (open) to
0 angular degrees (closed).
 Gas butterfly valve provided with indicator scale and return spring.

Electronic Combustion Manager:

 Microprocessor based control unit with integrated combustion manager and

flame safeguard.
 Control unit to include dual processors with reciprocal monitoring for fail-safe
operation.
 Electronic fuel/air ratio control via independently controllable stepper motors for
air damper and gas butterfly valve.
 Stepper motors with electrical connection of the coded plug type
 Programming and display unit with LCD display and programming keys.
 LCD to indicate operating phase number, air damper and gas valve position to
0.1° and display symbols for:
 Setting mode active
 Information mode active
 Service mode active
 Stepper motor movement
 Flame signal detected
 Lockout
 Programming and display unit can be dismounted and placed on the bottom of
the burner casing so it is easily viewable when the burner is mounted in the
inverted position (this done if the gas train approach is from the left)
 Stepper motors digitally settable in 900 increments from 90 degrees (open) to 0
degrees (closed) independent of the position of the other stepper motor.
 Fuel/air ratio curve with 9 separate operating points plus an independent ignition
position. Each operating point consists of a separate stepper motor angle for
both gas and air. Unit functions to create a curve with the points evenly spaced
when the endpoints of the cure are initially entered. Combustion values at each
individual point can be adjusted via the programming and display unit during
commissioning.
 With the addition of a gas pressure switch between the safety shut-off valves, the
combustion manager includes valve proving to routinely check the leak tightness
of the safety shut-off valves upon burner start.

Gas Train:

 Gas train consists of a single, multi-function unit which integrates filter, two safety
shut off valves and pressure regulator in one compact unit.
 Multi-function unit to include high precision, servo regulator for optimal outlet
pressure stability. Regulator design requires no external venting.
 Bolt-on flange connections with NPT pipe threads to facilitate ease of installation
and maintenance. Entire multi-function assembly can be removed without
disconnecting threaded pipe connections.
 Safety shut off valves internally piped in series and wired in parallel to a single,
plug-type, point of connection for fast, error-free installation.

Control Panel:

 Compact, remote control panel to include the following:

 PID-type modulating controller. Controller to accept a 4-20mA or
0-10V signal from BAS for set-point shift.
 Switch for burner On/Off
 Switch for Local/Remote to isolate modulating controller from BAS

Performance:

 The turndown ratio shall be a minimum of (___) for gas firing. The O2 level shall
be a maximum of 3% at high fire and 4.5% at low fire. CO shall not exceed 20
ppm for gas firing at all rates.
