Operation safety precautions
Only trained employees shall be permitted to operate the gap transporter. Training shall include instruction in
operation under normal conditions and emergency situations.
Where employees safety is dependent upon stopping and/or starting devices they shall be kept free of
obstructions to permit ready access.
Personnel working on or near a gap transporter shall be instructed as to the location and operation of pertinent
stopping devices. A Conveyor shall be used to transport only material it is capable of handling safely. Under no
circumstances shall the safety characteristics of the gap transporter be altered such alterations would endanger
personnel.
Routine inspections and preventive and corrective maintenance programs shall be conducted to insure that all
safety features and devices are retained and function properly.

Maintenance safety precautions

Maintenance, such as lubrication and adjustments, shall be performed only by qualified and trained personnel.
It is important that maintenance program be established to insure that all components are maintained in a
condition, which does not constitute a hazard to personnel.
When a gap transporter is stopped for maintenance purposes, starting devices or powered accessories shall be
locked or tagged out in accordance with a formalized procedure designed to protect all persons or groups
involved with the conveyor against an unexpected start.
Replace all safety devices and guards before starting equipment for normal operation.

Installation
Install the gap transporter unit with 4 screws 5/16"-18 to conveyor or machine body.
Check that the belt path is free of any protuberances.
Supply the voltage required for the electronic speed control (120 V -15 amps).

Start up
Before conveyor is turned on, check for foreign objects that may have been left inside conveyor during
installation. These objects could cause serious damage during start-up.
Start the gap transporter at the minimum speed and gradually turn it up to the maximum. Check for any loud or
abnormal noises and any indications of any wear on the belt.
After conveyor has been turned on and is operating, check motors, reducers, and moving parts to make sure they
are working freely.

Lubrication

REDUCER LUBRICATION
A vent plug is not necessary and should not be used. The reducers are shipped with a sufficient amount of oil to
provide adequate lubrication in the mounting positions supplied, the oil level will be above the oil hole the excess
oil may be drained, but it is not necessary.
Minimum allowable ambient temperatures for Standard Unit is -100 F and the maximum 2000 F
Replacement oil (12 oz):
Standard Unit Mobil Gear Oil #632

When changing from one type of lubricant to another, it is recommended that the unit be drained, filled to the
proper level with the new lubricant and run for 24 hours. Drain the lubricant a second time and refill to the proper
level.
