DISCUSSION
The lowest amount of water that must be mixed with cement to complete the chemical
reaction between the two is known as consistency. Portland cement has a usual consistency of
roughly 25% to 35% water. The main goal of this experiment is to determine how much water is
needed to make a cement paste according to IS CODE 4031 (PART4-1988), which the VICAT
plunger will penetrate to a depth of 5-7mm at the bottom of the VICAT mold.
When water is mixed with cement, the process of hydration begins. The amount of
water injected has a significant impact on the water cement ratio, which causes the cement to
lose its strength. On the other hand, when water is scarce, cement becomes dehydrated,
resulting in a loss of strength. The second lab report is about cement consistency, which is
important since knowing the correct amount of water needed in a cement is critical. In this
experiment, the Vicat apparatus is used to calculate the amount of water required to make a
workable cement paste. The amount of water necessary per weight of cement to make a
standard acceptable or uniform cement paste. Weather conditions, composition, and fineness
of cement all affect the standard or usual consistency of cement. It is critical to standardize the
proportion of water injected to cement in order to complete the chemical reaction.

SIGNIFICANCE OF EXPERIMENT
This test is important in the construction business because it determines how much
water to add to the cement paste in order to attain normal consistency. Because the water
content to be used in other cement tests is dependent on the usual quality, this test serves as a
simple cement test. The water content for several trials on cement that rely on normal
consistency is the initial setting time, final setting time, soundness, and compressive strength
test. Weather, cement temperature, and cement fineness all influence the typical consistency.
The quality of cement is critical in the design and construction of long-lasting infrastructure.

APPLICATION
The notion consistency of cement is required since cement is the most useful
component used in structures and construction. The procedure can be used to make mortars.
Mortars are widely used to join building blocks such as stones and bricks together. The strength
of the bond is determined by the consistency of the cement.
0Another scenario in which this experiment can be used is with foundations. Cement
plays a crucial function in establishing a solid and long-lasting foundation. It's the substance that
holds everything together to make foundations. The strength of the foundation is determined
by the quality of the cement, the finer and more consistent the cement, the stronger the
foundation. The consistency of concrete is also influenced by the consistency of cement.

Cement is used to bond particles with the help of water to produce concrete. To make a
standard concrete that is naturally durable and has the proper quantity of ratio, it must have a
typical consistency of cement.

CONCLUSION
Normal Consistency is one of the numerous qualities of cement that must be considered
when evaluating the amount of water required to produce the standard consistency of cement
from a given amount of cement. When determining if the cement paste is of normal
consistency, an apparatus such as the Vicat apparatus is required.
So, the water content to be utilized for other cement tests is dependent on the Normal
consistency, this test acts as a fundamental test increment. Initial setting time, final setting time,
soundness, and compressive strength test all require water content for various tests on cement
that are dependent on Normal consistency. Normal consistency is determined by elements like
as temperature and cement fineness. The fineness of cement increases as the temperature
rises. The consistency of normal people is higher, and vice versa. Consistency and precision of
measurements and computations must be observed to maximize the experiment's outcome.
