Directions: Fill in each part of the App Lesson with your own original ideas.

Please look at the


sample provided on the class website. Provide 3 to 4 apps/steps for students to complete along
with a creative title, helpful description, and relevant SC teaching standards.

 There must be one app per step.


 Android apps can be used as long as all included apps are from the same platform.
 Lessons must cohesively link together 3 to 4 apps going from one focus/step of the lesson
to another.
 Lessons may include direct instruction provided the lecture contents are explained.
 Lessons may utilize web browser apps like Chrome or Safari to access website-based
tools. Link to the website in the write-up and the web browser app in the App Store web
link area.
 The final step in lessons must have students create a learning artifact from a creation-
based app (presentation, video, etc.) or screenshot of progress from a skill-based app
that students would submit to the teacher for assessment.

2.2 Count, pronounce, blend, and segment syllables in spoken words.
2.3 Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllable spoken words.
2.4 Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial, and final sounds in a three-phoneme word.
2.5 Add or substitute individual sounds in simple, one-syllable words to make new words.

Description: This app lesson will develop Kindergarten early literacy students’
understanding on learning how to pronounce and spell new words that they have found
in their favorite children’s books.

 Students will be able to present new word to the class and have the class repeat
the word back to them

Step 1 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will use the YouTube App on their
iPads to look up their favorite children’s book and watch an audio version of it. They will
then pick out a word that interests them, or a word they never heard of or don’t know
how to pronounce.

Step 2 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will then use the Dictionary.com


app on their iPads to look up the word they chose from their favorite book and practice
pronouncing, spelling, and using the word in a sentence.

Step 3 Creation-Based (Learning Artifact) or Skill-Based App (Screenshot of


Progress): Students will then finally use the app Flyer Maker and Poster maker App and
create a collage of their word with pictures and present it to the class on the smartboard
or on their iPad. They will present to the class the word they chose, why they chose it,
what book they got the word from, how it is spelled and pronounced, and use the word
in a sentence.
