Materials used:

1. Curtains

2. Old Wooden Sticks

3. Plant’s Soil and Pot

4. Swiss Straw

5. Clothing Rack

6. Sack Rug

Take note, all of these items were merely household materials.

First step, we have to tuck in the wooden sticks on the pot with soil as this will serve as the tent stakes
of our tent.

Then, we have to tie every end of the curtain on the sticks that we have tucked in the soil using swiss
straws.

Third, We have to get another curtain to be placed at the back and the two sides which will serve as the
main covering of our tent.

Here, I’ve already placed the sack rug as the main covering of the floor which will be covered with
another curtain as alternative for sleeping pads.

Lastly, I’ve made some final touches by ensuring that the curtains are well-tied and I’ve also put some
camping gears to add up to the overall look of our improvised tent.

And ta-da, here is the final look of our tent.

cuts and scrapes, INSECT BITES,

1. Clean the stove frequently to avoid grease accumulations and possible grease fires. – This camping
safety tip goes along with the practice of good fire safety wherein you have to keep your
cooking area clean because a greasy stove top can catch fire easily once a burner gets hot. As
such, you have to clean up spills as soon as the stove cools down to avoid possibilities of fire
accidents.

2. Camp away from streams, creak beds, or over ditches where water may pool. – In compliance with
forecasting weather conditions, you should also take into consideration where water will drain if
rain will suddenly come. These areas flood easily and you may not have enough time to get to
high ground so it is important to stay away from these areas for your camping site.

3. Always secure or close your camp tents whenever you leave. – When camping outdoors, make sure to
keep your tents secured at all times so that you will be protected and safe, especially at night,
since almost all your valuables are located inside your tent. If possible, close the tent zippers and
then add a lock on the inside or externally, so no outsiders can enter your tent – be it a stranger
or an animal.

4. Bring plenty of water. - Although water in streams or lakes may appear to be clean, if the water is
untreated or the water system has not been properly maintained, drinking the water may put
you at risk for water-borne infections and diseases. That said, you cannot rely on water being
available in the site’s rainwater tanks because it is not suitable for drinking so you really have to
bring your own water.

5. Know the services available around your camping area. – Together with researching about your
campsite, you should also consider looking for available services located nearby your area such
as local hospitals so you will be ready for any kind of emergencies if the condition gets worse.
Since most camping sites have no or limited mobile phone coverage, it is advisable that you
have something on your mind already whenever casualties arise.

6. Drive safely when you are on your way to the camp site. – On your way to the campsite, you should
always observe speed limits and keep a close eye on the roadsides, especially if it is your first
time driving on that area. Moreover, there is also a tendency that you will encounter wildlife
along the way, as well as unsealed tracks and dirt road surfaces so it’s best to stay alert and slow
down to avoid losing control.

7. Wear long sleeved shirts, long pants and socks. If you are in an area with vegetation, you can gain
extra protection from unwanted insects like mosquitoes, ticks and chiggers by wearing long
sleeved shirts, long pants and socks. These clothing gears can also serve as your protection
against skin irritation and sunburn under extreme weather conditions.

8. Learn to identify plants like poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac and nettles so that you can avoid
them. – Since camping is mostly held outdoors where plants and vegetation are sundry, you
should be aware of the appearance of such poisonous plants because they can be highly
dangerous when touched or when ingested.
9. Do arrive before nightfall. - Setting up camp tents in the dark can be complicated since you have to
secure everything to avoid any problems. That said, it is advisable to build a camping tent or
campfire for food and warmth while there is still a source of natural light.

10. Don’t leave food unattended. Your campsite should be tidied up before you go hiking for the day or
go to sleep. To avoid any unwanted animal encounters, you should always practice proper food
safety and never leave your food unattended anywhere because it might attract the wildlife.

Camping is, indeed, a fun activity to do – Be it with your loved ones, your family, or even by yourself!
Just like any other trip, you have to set up your things, prepare your area, and the most
challenging yet fun part is you have to make your own campfire! However, what if you
accidentally cut your finger while using a sharp object? Oh no! Would you immediately panic?
Would you just cry on the corner? Or would you already go to the nearest hospital? Wait wait,
let me stop you at that point. Why not perform a first aid treatment first?

D. Video

Script: If your cut is just shallow And you can't get to the nearest hospital right away, you may opt to
apply a first-aid treatment first. Applying appropriate first aid to a wound can speed up the
healing process and reduce the risk of infection caused by your cut. If you still don’t know how
to perform first-aid on an open wound, I am here to teach you the basics! Just keep on
watching…

E. Perform First-Aid

1. Before we start, let us prepare the medical tools that we need to use to properly perform the first-aid.
This includes clean water, anti-microbial soap, disposable gloves but this is optional, a gauze pad
or a clean white cloth and medical tape as an alternative, and antiseptic wipes or cotton ball
with alcohol as alternative.
2. Before proceeding, we have to wear our medical gloves first to avoid the transfer of infection and to
protect the wounded skin from irritation or further infection.

3. First step, we have to sit the casualty down, let him/her calm down, then protect the wound
temporarily by covering it with a clean white cloth or a gauze pad if there is any. Once we made
sure that the cut is already temporarily protected, we may now proceed to the next step.

4. Next, we have to wash our hands thoroughly to prevent contamination and infection of the wound.
Unwashed hands may carry germs, bacteria and dirt that could potentially cause an infection. If
you have disposable gloves, you may wear it for double safety.

5. Third step, After washing our hands, we have to rinse the wound Under running water until it is
properly cleaned. Take note, once you’ve noticed that there is a blood clot while rinsing the wound, it is
advisable to just leave it as it is to avoid any further casualties. We may also use an anti-microbial soap
while rinsing the wound but remember, we can just apply the soap on the surroundings of the wound
and not on the center itself as this can cause infection or skin irritation.

6. Next, after rinsing the wound, we have to dry it by gently patting dry the surrounding skin with a clean
white cloth or towel.

7. Fifth step, Once it is properly dried, we may go further cleaning Or clean the wound deeply using
antiseptic wipes Or a wet cotton ball with alcohol as an alternative But just like the use of the soap, we
could just apply it outwards or on the surroundings of the wound As this can also cause infection or skin
irritation.

8. After further cleaning, let us dry the area once again using a clean white cloth. Now fresh and clean,
the wound is ready for a sterile dressing to keep it protected from infection.

9. Let’s do a recap. First is to let the casualty sit and temporarily protect the wound. Second, we have to
wash our hands thoroughly. After washing our hands, we have to rinse the wound With clean water and
anti-microbial soap then dry it after. Once it is properly dried, we may go further cleaning or clean The
wound deeply using wet cotton ball or antiseptic wipes. And lastly, dry the area and place the dressing.

F.

And there you have it! Now that you already know how to apply first-aid on a cut or wound, you may do
it on your own. Just remember the steps I’ve told you and properly perform it. However, just a little
reminder, If the cut does not stop from bleeding or if you see signs of infection while the wound is
healing, consider seeking for a professional medical help And go to the nearest hospital to avoid any
further casualties. That’s all for this video. Once again, I am Clarisse Penaredondo reminding you to stay
safe and save lives! Thank you for watching!
