Semi Detailed Lesson Plan
I. Objectives
At the end of 60 minutes discussion, the pupils should be able to:
A. Analyze figure of speech such as hyperbole and irony.
B. Construct meaning from variety of text of irony and hyperbole
C. Value the uses of hyperbole and irony in everyday living.

B. Review of the Past Lesson


The teacher will raise a question about the previous lesson about the figure of speech simile
and metaphor.
1. What is simile and metaphor?
2. Give one example of simile and metaphor.

C. Motivation
Fortune Ball x PictoWord!
The teacher will present a picture, then teacher will play the music and when the music
begins, the ball will also begin to pass through pupils and when the music stops the ball will also
stop. The one who is holding the ball will guess what’s the meaning of the first picture. After
answering, the music will resume, and the pupils will continue passing the ball. When music
stops, student who’s holding the ball will guess the 2 nd picture. Then the music and ball will
resume, when the music stops again, the student who’s holding the ball will solve the pictoword
through adding his/her classmates’ answers.

D. Lesson Proper
Task 1. The teacher will show a picture.

e.1 The pupil will be ask if they have encountered those kinds of words.
e.2 The pupil will be ask if they have a knowledge when it comes to the figure of speech.
e.3 The teacher will call someone to read what is the meaning of the hyperbole and irony.
e.4 The teacher will discuss the difference of hyperbole and irony.
e.5 The teacher will identify the 3 types of irony.
e.6 The teacher will discuss each type of irony and the meaning of each.
e.7 The teacher will read a short poem that is connected to the hyperbole and irony.

e.8 The pupil will be asked to answer the question on how exaggerated and ironic
expression being used in the short poem.

E. Generalization
Answer the following:
1. What is the meaning hyperbole and irony.
2. What are the 3 types of irony.
3. Give 2 examples of hyperbole and irony that you may encounter.

F. Values Integration
In our times today, expressing ourselves is one of the important things in our daily lives. We
can do it creatively so appreciate the presence of figures of speech for you to be creative enough
in expressing yourself.

G. Application
FLAG RACING
The class will be divided into 4 groups. Each group need at least one representative at a time.
The teacher will distribute different colors of flag each group. The teacher will read phrases and
each group will be given 15 seconds to decide for an answer. There will be a finish line in front,
the representatives should raise their flag while reaching the finish line. First to reach the finish
line will be given a chance to answer. The first group to score 3 points, will be the winner.

IV. Evaluation
Read and analyze each sentence and write the word hyperbole and irony in the space provide.
_____1. One of the identical twins says to the other, “You’re ugly!”
_____2. I saw a fish drowning.
_____3. The army troops are faster than the wind and stronger than a mountain.
_____4. Planning something big for Friday night but when the day finally comes, your mom asks
you to stay home to watch your little sister, “Sure, it’s not like I had anything special planned for
tonight.”
_____5. Coming to school really, early but realizing you forgot your homework. “I guess today
is my lucky day.”
_____6. It has been ages that I have had a proper meal.
_____7. I have been searching for your name all over the universe
_____8. She told you not to touch her phone for a thousand times.
_____9. Carla likes the taste of durian fruit a lot. It makes her vomit and feel sick.
____10. I cannot live without seeing my crush daily.

V. Assignment
Give the meaning of culture based and euphemism of the figure of speech and give at least 3
examples of each.
