Oracle E-Business Suite R12 is supported on Linux 64-bit operating systems running on the x86-64 hardware architecture.

1:Oracle Linux/Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) versions 4 and 5 and SLES versions 9, 10 and 11 were previously certified with
12.1 but are no longer actively supported by the vendors. See Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy page, Red Hat's RHEL Life Cycle
page and SUSE's Product Support lifecycle page for more information. Customers should upgrade to later OS versions for use
with EBS 12.1.

2:Technology components bundled with E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 (such as the Oracle Database 11gR1 and Application
Server 10gR3) must be upgraded either prior to cloning or after a new installation of 12.1.1 (see sections below) on these
operating systems.

3: Oracle Linux 8, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and SLES 15 are only certified through the use of cloning (from Linux
environments) or a platform migration (from non Linux environments) - new or fresh installations using Rapid Install (12.1.1) are
not supported. The use of Rapid Install as part of an application tier platform migration to these operating systems (i.e. rapidwiz
'-techstack') is supported, and may require upgrades of embedded components (see the 'After Installing or Upgrading' section
below).

Note: In-place major OS upgrades (such as from Oracle Linux version 6 to 7) are not currently certified with Oracle E-
Business Suite. Customers running E-Business Suite who are planning to upgrade to a later OS version are advised to install
the OS on a separate target environment that meets all requirements listed in this document before cloning their E-
Business Suite instance to it.

Minor OS version in-place upgrades such as from Oracle Linux 7 Update 1 to Oracle Linux 7 Update 2 (or higher) are
certified.

An in-place major OS upgrade for the Oracle Exadata database tier is supported and certified as part of the Exadata
software update process as documented here.

1: Oracle's Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) R1 and the Red Hat Compatible kernel (2.6.32-71) are certified. The use of the
UEK R2 (2.6.39) is certified on Oracle Linux 6 Update 2 (6.2) or later. UEK R3 (3.8.13) is certified on Oracle Linux 6 Update 4
(6.4) or later and UEK R4 (4.1.12) is certified on Oracle Linux 6 Update 7 (6.7) or later. On the database tier, the use of the UEK
will require upgrading to at least 11gR2. See Known Issues section below for latest kernel updates requiring JDK upgrade.
2: Oracle's Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) R3, R4 and R5 and the Red Hat Compatible kernel (3.10) are certified. UEK
R4
(4.1.12) is certified on Oracle Linux 7 Update 1 (7.1) or later. UEK R5 (4.14.35) is certified on Oracle Linux 7 Update 5 (7.5) or
later. UEK R6 (5.4.17) is certified on Oracle Linux 7 Update 7 (7.7) or later. On the database tier, the use of the UEK will require
upgrading to at least 11gR2. See Known Issues section below for latest kernel updates requiring JDK upgrade.
3: Oracle's Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) R6 (5.4.17) and the Red Hat Compatible kernel (4.18) are certified.

Required Packages

The following table lists the required packages and the minimum required versions for Linux x86-64 (64-bit). The versions listed
below are associated with the minimum version of the operating system shown - later updates of the operating system may have
newer versions of packages that are also certified for use with E-Business Suite unless noted otherwise.

Additional Information: Refer to your vendor's operating system installation manual or the operating system media for
information on obtaining and applying packages.

Note: Customers on Exadata (Database Machine, Cloud Machine, Cloud Service) should not install the packages listed
below as the system already contains all required packages and settings needed to run the Oracle Database.

The existence of rpms can be checked on Linux with the following command (using libgcc as an example):

The E-Business Suite Preinstallation RPM includes all the above required rpms and dependencies for running the
application and database tiers on Oracle Linux - see the 'Oracle E-Business Suite Preinstallation RPM' section

1:This unzip package (available from EL 5 distribution) is only required for purposes of running
Rapid Install to unzip the required EBS files as part of the installation and should be reverted after
the install of EBS. Alternatively, users can backup the existing unzip 6.0 in /usr/bin, copy the unzip
5.5 from the EBS staging directory to /usr/bin for purposes of installing EBS, and then restore the
unzip 6.0 when done. The unzip package is not required if cloning an existing EBS 12.1.3
environment on Linux to Oracle Linux 8 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.

Note:

1: The motif packages listed replace the previous requirement for the openmotif21 package. See the
'Other Requirements' section below for further instructions regarding the Motif libraries required for
use with Oracle Forms and Reports.
2: Customers may need to upgrade to version binutils-2.27-28.base.el7_5.1 or higher due to the
issue documented below.
3: This unzip package (available from EL 5 distribution) is only required for purposes of running
Rapid Install to unzip the required EBS files as part of the installation and should be reverted after

SELinux (Security Enhanced Linux)

SELinux is a security enhancement to Linux allowing system administrators finer control over access to system resources by
users and applications.

Starting with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Linux version 6, SELinux is enabled by default during OS installation with a
mode of 'enforcing'. The status of SELinux in a system can be checked by running the 'sestatus' command - other modes are
'disabled' where SELinux is disabled completely, and 'permissive' where warnings are logged to a file but is not strictly enfored.
The file /etc/selinux/config is the main SELinux configuration file that sets the mode and policy of SELinux in a system, while
warnings are logged to /var/log/messages. Please check and review vendor-specific documentation for further details on SELinux
administration and maintenance.

Release 12.1 has been tested with SELinux on RHEL/Oracle Linux 6 with the use of the 'enforcing' mode enabled and the default
'targeted' policy. Users who find unforeseen issues with the 'enforcing' mode and specific policies should file an Oracle Support
Service Request with details including the SELinux message and their use case. The use of the 'permissive' mode is certified and
can be used as an alternative.

Java Requirements

Oracle E-Business Suite delivers the following Java SE Development Kit (JDK) versions for use by the Oracle E-Business Suite:

Java SE Development Kit (JDK) Version 6.0 on the application tier

Java SE Development Kit (JDK) Version 1.4.2 on the OracleAS 10g 10.1.2 application tier hosting Forms and Reports
services
Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6.0 on the database tier (for AutoConfig)

You can now upgrade to the newer Java 7.0 update on all Oracle E-Business Suite application and database tier nodes and doing
so is highly recommended. If you plan to upgrade your application tier nodes to Java 7.0, the same upgrade in the OracleAS
10.1.2 ORACLE HOME must be performed at the same time. The Java 7.0 upgrade on the database tier is independent and can
be done separately.

Note: Oracle Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and 8 users should upgrade their JDK versions to officially certified
versions (1.7.0_67 or later and 1.7.0_231 or later respectively) as noted here.
Customers are advised to review and follow
the instructions posted in the documents below to upgrade to the latest available JDK versions either prior to a clone or
after a fresh install.

Patching Oracle E-Business Suite

Note: When querying for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 patches on My Oracle Support and selecting Linux x86-64 in
the Platform dropdown list, it will re-direct you to a Linux x86 patch. This patch may be applied to both 32-bit and 64-bit
Linux operating systems.

Kernel Settings

Edit the /etc/sysctl.conf file to configure your kernel settings to the minimum values shown below. After editing the file, use the
"sysctl -p" command or restart the system to invoke the new settings.

Note: If the current value for any parameter is higher than the value listed in the following table, then do not change the
value of that parameter.

Domain Name System (DNS) Resolver Parameters

Two Domain Name System (DNS) resolver parameters (timeout and attempts) are set by default to low values when the
operating system
is installed. These low values may cause attempted network connections to an Oracle database to fail. If this
happens, add or update the following entries to these minimum settings in the /etc/resolv.conf file on each server node:

options attempts:5

options timeout:15

Verifying Host Names

Use the following to verify host name settings:

For Oracle Linux 6, 7 and 8, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7 and 8:

1. Verify that the /etc/hosts file is formatted as follows:

[ip_address] [node_name].[domain_name] [node_name]

2. For Oracle Linux/RHEL 6, verify that the /etc/sysconfig/network file is formatted as follows:

3. For Oracle Linux/RHEL 7 and 8, verify that the entry in /etc/hostname is as follows:

and use the hostnamectl command to change it if necessary.

4. If the /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default/network file exists, remove it.

5. If you changed any files in the previous steps, restart the system.

For SUSE Linux SLES 12 and 15:

1. Verify that the /etc/hosts file is formatted as follows:

Modifying the Number of Open File Descriptors

Open the /etc/security/limits.conf file and change the existing values for "hard" and "soft" parameters as follows. Restart the
system after making changes.

of that parameter.

Download and apply the Patch 6078836 from My Oracle Support to fix an issue with the Oracle HTTP Server (missing libdb.so.2)
bundled with the E-Business Suite technology stack.

Note that this patch (which includes a required operating system library) must be applied before installing Oracle E-Business
Suite.

For Oracle Linux 7 and RHEL 7, perform the following command (as root on your system) to create a required link to the

Oracle E-Business Suite Preinstallation RPM (available for Oracle Linux 6, 7 and 8)

The Oracle E-Business Suite Preinstallation RPM (oracle-ebs-server-R12-preinstall) for Oracle Linux 6, 7 and 8 is available on the
Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN, which requires a support contract) or from the Oracle Linux yum server (under the
'Add-ons' channel) for these Oracle Linux operating systems. It is recommended that this rpm be installed on top of a 'minimal'
install of Oracle Linux to provide just the necessary packages to install and run Oracle E-Business Suite.

As with the Oracle Database Preinstallation RPMs, the Oracle E-Business Suite Preinstallation RPM provides all required Linux
packages for both the EBS application and database tiers, while configuring the environments with particular kernel and other
values to meet most of the requirements published in this document.

Note: Customers on Exadata (Database Machine, Cloud Machine, Cloud Service) should not install the E-Business Suite
Preinstallation RPM as the system already contains all required packages and settings needed to run the Oracle Database.

This preinstallation rpm will significantly reduce the preparation time of the environment prior to installing, upgrading or cloning
an E-Business Suite R12 instance by performing the following tasks:

downloading and installing all software package versions and dependencies required for installing E-Business Suite R12
creating the users oracle and applmgr for use as owners of the database and application tiers respectively, while setting
hard and soft shell resource limits in /etc/security/limits.conf for Oracle Linux 5 and in /etc/security/limits.d/oracle-ebs-
server-R12-preinstall.conf for Oracle Linux 6, 7 and 8

updating kernel parameters in /etc/sysctl.conf to recommended values

sets DNS resolver parameters in /etc/resolv.conf to minimum recommended
values
sets 'numa=off' in the kernel commandline

disables 'Transparent Huge Pages (THP)' for Oracle Linux 6, 7 and 8 if it is enabled

The following are steps needed to install the rpm using public-yum, with sample output from an Oracle Linux 6 installation:

1. As an authorized user (such as root), retrieve the file that configures repository locations:

# cd /etc/yum.repos.d

# wget https://yum.oracle.com/public-yum-ol6.repo

For Oracle Linux 7, users should replace 'public-yum-ol6.repo' in the command above with 'public-yum-ol7.repo'.

For Oracle Linux 8, review the documentation on DNF and repository configurations, perform the following
commands to install the preinstallation rpm using the DNF utility, and then skip to Step 4:

OPMN port conflict

Attention: By default, the OPMN service of the Application Server technology stack listens on port 6000 when started up
during Rapid Install. This can conflict with the X11 port used for the graphics console on Linux servers and prevent Rapid
Install from completing.

To address this issue, perform the following steps before installing or upgrading:

Check if the port 6000 is being used ("netstat -a | grep 6000")

If so, you should disable the graphics console login process on the Linux server. This can be accomplished by logging in
as root and issuing the following commands:
Find the process that uses port 6000 by the command "lsof -i TCP:6000".
Use "kill -9" to abort the process found in the previous step
Confirm that nothing is listening at port 6000 ("netstat -a | grep 6000")
Modify /etc/inittab by changing "id:5:initdefault:" to "id:3:initdefault:"
Run "/sbin/init 3" to restart dtlogin

Unset environment variable before installing (Oracle Linux 8, RHEL 8, SLES 12 and SLES 15 only)

Unset the ENV environment variable prior to installing (to avoid 10.1.2 Oracle Home registration and relinking failures during
install):

To avoid a Java stack overflow during the registration of the 10.1.2 Oracle Home while installing 12.1, it may be necessary to

After installation, users must update the stub libraries in the 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 Oracle Homes using Patch 12415211. In following
the instructions below, please note that Opatch should not be used to install this patch.

Users must specifically copy the files in the patch to the specified directories as follows for the 10.1.2 Oracle Home:

$ cd <12.1_INSTALL_DIR>/apps/tech_st/10.1.2/lib

$ cp -p -R stubs stubsORIG

$ cd stubs

$ cp <PATCH_INSTALL_DIR>/12415211/files/lib/stubs/libgcc_s-2.3.2-stub.so .

$ ln -s libgcc_s-2.3.2-stub.so libgcc_s.so.1

$ ln -s libgcc_s.so.1 libgcc_s.so

After this is done and sourcing the APPS<CONTEXT_NAME>.env file, users should relink all 10.1.2 executables by running the
$ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/clone/adlnktools.sh script and ensuring that there are now no errors in the make log file output from
the script.

The instructions for the 10.1.3 Oracle Home are:

$ cd <12.1_INSTALL_DIR>/apps/tech_st/10.1.3/lib

$ cp -p -R stubs stubsORIG

$ cd stubs

$ cp <PATCH_INSTALL_DIR>/12415211/files/lib/stubs/libgcc_s-2.3.2-stub.so .

$ ln -s libgcc_s-2.3.2-stub.so libgcc_s.so.1

After this, users should relink sqlplus by running the <INSTALL_DIR>/apps/tech_st/10.1.3/appsutil/clone/adlnkweboh.sh script
and ensuring that there are now no errors in the make log file output from the script.

Upgrade Oracle Database and Oracle Application Server (Oracle Linux 6, RHEL 6, Oracle Linux 7, RHEL 7, SLES
12 only)

Customers installing E-Business Suite 12.1.1 on the above operating systems using Rapid Install must upgrade the Oracle
Database to 11gR2 (11.2.0.3 or higher for OL/RHEL 6, 11.2.0.4 for OL/RHEL 7 and SLES 12), 12c (12.1.0.1 or higher for
OL/RHEL 6, 12.1.0.2 for OL/RHEL 7 and SLES 12) or 19c (for Oracle Linux/RHEL 7 and 8 and SLES 12) and the Oracle
Application Server 10gR3 to 10.1.3.5 after installing EBS 12.1 using the respective documents:

Customers who are cloning an existing EBS environment to a new environment with these operating systems must upgrade
these technology components prior to performing the clone (as noted above).

Upgrade Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) for Oracle Forms and Oracle Application Server (SLES 15 only)

After performing a platform migration of their application tier from a non Linux environment to SLES 15 (i.e. installing the 12.1
technology stack with rapidwiz '-techstack'), you should upgrade the 10.1.2 Oracle Forms OUI and the 10.1.3 Application Server.

To upgrade the OUI, you should install the Patch 6640838 prior to applying any 10.1.2 patches using the OU with the following
options:

$ ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs -silent ORACLE_HOME=<path from oui_inventory_directory> ORACLE_HOME_NAME=<name

migration), apply the following patch if not previously applied on your source envrionment:

Apply AS 10g Forms Patch (Oracle Linux 7, RHEL 7, Oracle Linux 8 and RHEL 8 only)

Apply the Forms Patch 30427122 in order for Oracle Forms Builder and Compiler to work correctly with later Motif versions.

Manually fix database dbf file for Fresh production (PROD) database installs

For older versions of the startCD prior to the current version 12.1.1.13 (see Oracle Applications Release Notes, Release 12.1.1
My Oracle Support Knowledget Document 798258.1), you must run the following sql commands to fix a particular corrupted dbf
file if installing the production (PROD) database:

$ sqlplus/nolog

sql> connect / as sysdba

sql> alter database datafile '[full path of system09.dbf]' resize 1000M;

sql> alter database datafile '[full path of system09.dbf]' resize 1500M;

This step does not need to be run if Rapid Install was run with the current version of the startCD (12.1.1.13 or higher).

Upgrade Value Chain Planning (Advanced Supply Chain Planning) to latest Patch level (Oracle Linux/RHEL 7 and
8 only)

Customers of Value Chain Planning (Advanced Supply Chain Planning) must upgrade to version 12.1.3.9.2
(R12.SCP_PF.B.delta.4) or higher on the above operating systems - refer to My Oracle Support Document 746824.1 for more
information.

Apply Advanced Supply Chain Planning patch (Oracle Linux/RHEL 6, Oracle Linux/RHEL 7, Oracle Linux/RHEL 8,
SLES 12 only)

During the relink phase of the installation of EBS Release 12 (12.1) on the above operating systems, failures will result while
relinking the Advanced Supply Chain Planning (ASCP) executables MSO, MSC, MSR and FEM. To fix this problem, users are
required to apply Patch 28822486:R12.AD.B.

Deactivate unsupported products (SLES 15)

After cloning or migrating an existing Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3 installation to the target SLES 15 environment, follow these
steps:

Download Patch 33488563 and follow the patch README to run the script to deactivate EBS products not supported on
SLES 15

The following relink error after the application of the patch can be ignored:

"Relink of module "WPCFSQ" failed.

LD_LIBRARY_PATH Environment Variable

Dynamic libraries are used as part of the relinking and execution processes. The LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable
is
used by Oracle E-Business Suite to locate the required dynamic libraries at runtime - this variable is set by the Rapid Install
wizard during the installation of EBS as well as by the Rapid Clone script (adcfgclone) when configuring the target system.

If you need to change these values, use the Edit Parameters function of the OAM AutoConfig tool (by logging in as 'System
Administrator' responsibility, clicking on 'System Administrator', selecting 'AutoConfig' under 'Oracle Applications Manager', and
clicking on the 'Environments' tab):

On each application tier server node:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set in three places:

$APPL_TOP/admin/adovars.env
$ORA_CONFIG_HOME/10.1.2/[CONTEXT_NAME].env, in the 10.1.2 Oracle home directory
$ORA_CONFIG_HOME/10.1.3/[CONTEXT_NAME].env, in the 10.1.3 Oracle home directory

KNOWN ISSUES

The following are known issues for this release:

Certain binutils versions cause sqlplus failure after relink/clone

Certain binutils versions (such as 2.26 and 2.27-27 in RHEL/OL 7) introduced a regression that causes the following failure with a
relinked sqlplus (after a clone operation, for example):

[oracle@apps lib]$ sqlplus <APPS LOGIN>/<APPS PASSWORD>

sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.10.1: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

This was fixed starting in version 2.27-28 in RHEL/OL 7 - customers should upgrade to at least this version of binutils if the
above failure is encountered.

Latest UEK and Red Hat kernel upgrades can cause Oracle Reports to fail

Upgrading to the latest UEK R4 (4.1.12-94.3.8.el6uek or later) and Red Hat kernel (2.6.32-696.3.2.el6 or later) can cause Oracle
Reports to fail with a "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" error. Users should also upgrade the JDK in the 10.1.2
(Forms/Reports) Oracle Home to the latest JDK 7 (Update 151 or later) in order to avoid this failure by following the appropriate
instructions in:

Advanced Supply Chain Planning product (MSO) may crash when increasing number of threads for optimization

The 64-bit Oracle Advanced Supply Chain Planning executable MSONWL64.exe may crash when increasing the number of
threads for optimization on a system with insufficient memory (bug 7259631). The following error is observed when this occurs:

** glibc detected * MSONWL64.exe: corrupted double-linked list:

Patching Application Server Oracle Homes using OPatch (Oracle Linux 6 and RHEL 6 only)

After an installation or clone of Release 12, you will need to set the OPATCH_PLATFORM_ID to '226' prior to applying patches to
the 10.1.2 or 10.1.3 Application Server Oracle Homes. For example, in the "ksh" shell:

$ OPATCH_PLATFORM_ID=226; export OPATCH_PLATFORM_ID

This step is needed to avoid an OPatch Config Assistant failure.

Errors on XFS file system for large disks mounted with 64-bit inode (inode64) option

The use of the XFS file system, the default local filesystem on Oracle Linux/RHEL 7, for larger disks (greater than around 1TB)
with the inode64 mount option may result in errors when using EBS such as:

java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object

This is due to the use of 32-bit executables in EBS which can result in the accessing of inode numbers on the file system that are
greater than the 2^32 limit of the 32-bit userspace. It is recommended to use the 32-bit inode option (the default for XFS) or
other local filesystems such as ext4 if this problem is encountered.

Warning messages during relink with adadmin (Oracle Linux 8 and RHEL 8 only)

During relinking with adadmin, you may see the following warning messages:
