Jammu and Kashmir's economy dependent on agriculture and activities is
Predominantly allied activities.
It can be said, that The economy of J&k is primarily Services based agriculture
Oriented.

Let us understand J&K economy under various


sectors-
1. Primary (Agriculture) Sector,
2. Secondary (Industrial) Sector &
3. Territory (Service) Sector.

(1) PRIMARY SECTOR / AGRICULTURE SECTOR.


Agriculture & Allied activities. contribute about 19% in
State GDP.
But is a major employer employer in State. (70%)

U.T has total cultivated area of 858 thousands


Hectares.
-> Saffron, Apples, Day fruits, nice are the in J&K.
->Maize and important crops / cash crops.

(2) SECONDARY / INDUSTRIAL SECTOR.

The Industrial sector contribute 23% in states economy.


Militancy and other factors are the are chief Contributers when it comes to backwardness of J&K
Industrial sector.
There are 52 existing Industrial estates in J&K.
Chenab Textile Mill, Kathua industry employing more a Leading than 8000 workers.
The J&K Government in recent years has been paying attention towards Industrial complexes.

1. Jammu division -> Bari Brahmana,
Kathua, Gangyal.
2. Kashmin division -> Rangreth
Doabagah and Khunamoh.

The departments of J&k govt. to promote Industrial Activities


1. SIDCO (State Industrial Development corporation)
It is a nodal agency for pormotion and development of
Infrastructure facilities of medium and Large industries.
It was established in 1967.

2. SICOP (Small Scale Industries Development corporation Limited)


It was established in 1975 as a wholly owned company of J&K govt.
It is nodal a agency Industries in State for Small scale industries in
UT.

3. J&K khadi and village Industries Board.


Established in 1962
Board provide financial and Technical assistance for seting up of
Small scale industries.

4. J&K ITCOL (Industrial and Technical consultancy Organisation LtD.

5. J&K SFC (State financial corporation)

Major PSU's and Industrial Activities


1. J&K Minerals Ltd was 1st State owned PSU in 1960.
2. J&K Industries Ltd. was estb. in 1963.
3. The profit earning PSU are - J&K Tourism Development corporation Lt.D - J&K PCC, forest
corporation etc.

A. Sericulture (Silk production)
J&K is Leading Bivottine sericulture in world.
27,000 Rural families Engaged.

B. Handicraft
It includes
Carpet :- 3.7 Lakh artisans.(41% of handicraft).
Shawl :- 30% of handicraft
Embroiderical cloths.
C. Sports goods - Contribute alot.
D. Major industries and there locations.
Silk Industry - Srinagar
woollen Textile - Srinagar, Karan nagan, Nowshena etc...
cement factory - Wuyan
Brick & Tile - Bari-Brahmna..
J&K Industrie - Baramulla.
