Case: 2 – DSG law firm
DSG law firm

1-problem definition
the problem here in this case study is that there is a discrimination in the hiring process from
the beginning of the firm as they don’t hire or keep Hispanic employees. For a variety of
reasons as mentioned in the case

2-Justification of the Problem

the cause of the problem in this case is that from the beginning of the DSG firm they
discriminate between employees and each other as they don’t hire or keep Hispanic people,
this creates a vision in mind of employees that nationality and race and language could make a
difference in the hiring and keeping process in the firm despite of the capabilities and
qualifications of the hired person, and this is appeared in reality when the firm hired prominent
Hispanic lawyer, Francisco Jauregui all of other employees just recognize that he is Hispanic and
neglect his capabilities and prominent qualifications.
And so, on any action will be taken by the firm manager or partner with Hispanic background
will recognized by employees that it is a favored from the Hispanic community to one of its
members.
And a proof for this opinion that Charles Gardner who is non-Hispanic give an exception for
Francisco Jauregui to have base salary higher than any other DSG employee as Francisco have a
prominent capability not because he is Spanish.

3-List of Alternatives

1- Put down a hiring procedures and regulation list that include the features that
should be present in new prospected employees

2- Create a new HR department in the firm that will be responsible for the hiring
process and employees’ salaries and benefits

3- Assign a committee which will be responsible for assigning cases and tasks to the
team of the employees as per their capabilities and qualifications
4-Evaluate Alternatives

 regarding the first alternative it would be the most effective and efficient one as the
procedures and regulation list will be like the road map for the firm in the process of
hiring new employees whatever who will be the manager of the firm as the hiring will be
based on rules and procedures not people personal opinions, also as these procedures
are available and applied on all prospected employees any old employee of the firm can
be sure that there is no discrimination in the hiring process.

 regarding the second alternative it will be moderate in its power to solve the problem as
all companies and entities have a HR department and this is correct and essential part of
any company and entity is to have a HR department but in our case the old employees
will object on the selection of the members of the Hr department and will not trust their
choices and they will claim that there will be discrimination among their selections as
from the beginning they don’t trust their managers choices and decisions

 Regarding alternative three I can see that this alternative would be some how effective
as the assigning process of tasks and cases to the employees of the firm will be based on
a committee choice not one person and this some how will give employees confident
that there is no discrimination happened in the assigning process, but as alternative 2
the problem will be that the employees will object on the selection of the committee
members but to avoid this we can make a elections for the choice of the committee
members.

5- Recommendations

I recommend alternative 1 and alternative 3 for this case.
