Guidelines on Christmas Parties

I. Rationale

The educational community, based on the example of Christ – and of Mary in her response to Christ – and
reflecting on today’s culture in the light of the teachings of the church, will promote (54): a spiritual vision of the
world in the face of materialism; a concern for others in the face of egoism; simplicity in the face of consumerism;
the cause of the poor in the face of social injustice. (CJE # 96)

As we celebrate Christmas, it is essential to ponder about its deep significance in our lives.

More than the parties and exchanging of gifts, there is a need to realize that it is the time that our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ was born in a lowly manger and he was born to humble and poor parents.

As a Jesuit, Catholic and Filipino institution, we strive to make our activities in school develop in our students
the quality of true humility and simplicity especially in the Christmas season where attention is focused on
materialism and commercialism. Christmas parties are one avenue for community building. We celebrate the
birth of Christmas modeling after the birth of Jesus in the stable. The celebrations should center on Christ –
giving, loving, sharing and caring for the environment. Let us not forget that Jesus is the reason for the season.

II. Objectives: The class get-together is design

1. To give importance to the Christian significance of celebrating Christmas.

2. To strengthen class unity through creative bonding activities
3. To express generosity through gift-giving
