The Killers to 'Tranquilize' hedge fund ball

Are they human... or are they chancers? The nanciers behind the Ark dinner, the annual hedge fund
extravaganza, are to defy the nancial and political uncertainty by once again staging one of the world's
most lavish parties.

Arki Busson, boss of EIM and founder of Absolute Return for Kids (Ark), has outdone even his own ability to
deliver surprises and has persuaded The Killers, one the world's biggest bands, to perform at tomorrow
night's party, The Daily Telegraph has learned.

More than 800 hedge fund managers, traders and nanciers have paid up to £50,000 a ticket for the Ark
Gala Dinner which will be staged at the disused international terminal at Waterloo station in London.

The theme of the party is "Arcadia" and the vast space has been transformed into a full-scale forest, with a
ve-star dinner and auction. The appearance of The Killers, which guests have been promised to expect, is
a considerable coup given that Dave Keuning, the guitarist, announced in January that the band was taking
a break.

The auction, which has broken world records for fund-raising in recent years, has lots including a Fiat 500
car painted by artist Damian Hirst; an original Richard Prince photograph from his Cowboy series; and a
luxury Caribbean holiday with private jets and yachts thrown in.

Mr Busson refused to con rm any details about the dinner but told The Daily Telegraph: "We are so
grateful to everyone for their support. It would be amazing if we could raise £10m in these uncertain
times."

Stanley Fink, the former boss of Man Group who now runs ISAM, has taken over as chairman of the Ark
whose gala dinners have become one of the biggest fund-raisers in the world. In 2006, guests raised a
£28m when event was attended by Bill Clinton and Madonna, while Nelson Mandela sent a personal note.
In total, the events have raised £120m which has gone to help children's charities across theE, eastern
Europe and Africa.

London Mayor Boris Johnson, who addressed the 2009 dinner, told the nanciers: "If you have a sense of
guilt and obligation and you want to suage the guilt, give.''
