Answer the following questions briefly. Maximum of 6 sentences per number.

1. Explain the democratic process that led to the promulgation of R.A 1425.
Sen. Recto promulgated the Rizal Law as his protest against the US Imperialism in Philippine
Governance because the Philippines after the 2nd World War and during the Cold War era
allowed US Military bases to stay in the Philippines for 99 years  to protect the country from
communist treats imposed by the HUKBALAHAP  and the Laurel Langley agreement of 1955
that extended the American's exploitation to the Philippine Natural Resources stated in the Bell
Trade Act of 1946 from 1946-1955 to 1946-1973 that erased the Filipinos' spirit of Nationalism.

2. What do you think is the importance of studying the life and works of Jose Rizal in the
21st Century?
It's important so one will know the characteristics of Dr. Jose Rizal that made him a hero like his
bravery and patriotism that are worth-appreciating and emulating.

Another that's often overlook is his unique way of fighting the colonizers. While other Philippine
heroes used violence in resisting the colonizers, Dr. Jose Rizal used pen and paper through his
two novels whose content enraged the Spaniards.

It is the endeavour to know and understand Rizal, not just as an individual, but also as a
representative of our Asian-ness. We must study his life and works to understand what he knew
about being an Asian in the world of ideas formed by Western colonialism.

Many people in today's generation have never heard much about Jose Rizal, which is why it is
so important for us to know everything about him! If we don't study his life and works, we will
never truly get to know who he was or why he was such a part of our lives because even though
he died over 83 years ago, many Filipinos still make references from him. Today! Acting with
knowing all this information allows us to appreciate and understand the views of Jose Rizal on
his people, life, society and government.

Rizal is an icon, and he will always be remembered as someone who peacefully fought for
freedom. He was a great leader throughout his whole life! His writing influenced many Filipinos
because it reflected what they were feeling and thinking at that time. His writing was
inspirational because it enabled the Filipinos to think in ways they had never thought of before.

He opened their minds to different ideas, he helped them see what they didn't have yet, and he
made them feel like they could make a difference in this world.

Rizal is a hero, and his life was not only about studying but also about learning the importance
of family, love and country/motherland! He wanted Filipinos to awaken their minds to the
problems of life and learn to make better choices. He wanted them to learn that it is essential for
everyone to have a job to feed their families, give their children a good education and still have
money to buy things that will improve their lives.
If you know about his life, you won't see him as just a writer, but you will see him as an
inspiration to fight for what is right and treat all people equally and with respect.

3. How do you interpret the role of youth as implied in the Rizal Law?
Our youth has the power to create change as long as we allow them to have their voice
because they hold the key to the future of prosperity and peace. Our youth is also the nation’s
development partner. Thus, we should give them chances to speak and be heard because they
have new idealism, enthusiasm, and courage to make our world better.

One of the youths contributing to the changes in nation-building is Lanz Riley Acebo, NTC’s
student government president, and a youth advocate. Lanz believes that the youth is the hope
of the future generation because their involvement is crucial to national and global issues. The
youth see the impact the coronavirus has on their mental health and education. Hence, they
have to live in the new normal and cope with the changes, but this also helps them challenge
the decision-makers and make them accountable for their actions.

As adults and their equal partners, we have to guide our youth to make sound decisions and
change the old ideas. Dr. Jose Rizal said, “youth is the hope of our future.” Thus, we should
allow them to create change and challenge them to be the real hope of our future.
