MENSURATION: Perimeter, Area and Volume
In this chapter you will learn how to:
• calculate areas and perimeters of two-dimensional shapes.
Some • calculate areas and perimeters of shapes that can be separated into two or more

Keywords
simpler polygons.
• calculate areas and circumferences of circles.
Perimeter • calculate perimeters and areas of circular sectors.

Area • understand nets for three-dimensional solids.

• calculate volumes and surface areas of solids.
Irrational number
• calculate volumes and surface area of pyramids, cones and spheres.
Sector
Perimeter: is the measured or calculated length of the boundary of a
Arc shape. The perimeter of a circle is its circumference. You can add the

Semi-circle lengths of sides or use a formula to calculate perimeter.

Solid

Net

Vertices

Face Area: is a region is the amount of space it occupies. Area is measured

Surface Area in square units. The surface area of a solid is the sum of the areas of
its faces. The area of basic shapes is calculated using a formula.
Volume

Vertex / Apex

Edge

Slant height

Volume: of a solid is the amount of space it occupies. Volume is measured in cubic units. The
volume of cuboids and prisms can be calculated using a formula.
