THOUGHTS ON THE WAY UP MOUNT CARMEL It certainly is picnic season! Not only is our picnic shelter booked solid for the summer weekends, but lots of weekdays, too. Thanks to Florence Sova and Colette in our office for keeping all our groups and their reservations straight! The parish will be using the pavilion for two activities in upcoming weeks: our parish Volunteers Picnic on August 14 and the Parish, School, and Alumni Picnic on August 21. Mark those dates in your smartphone, touchpad, Blackberry or, if you have resisted the electronic revolution, your paper calendar. You will find a reservation form for the Volunteers Picnic in todays bulletin. Please make your reservation by Monday, August 8. As usual, the grilling will be done by guest chefs and the remaining culinary delights are catered by Nunzis. All those who serve the parish as a volunteer are welcome and encouraged to join us! Dont miss this fun afternoon; make your reservation today! The Parish Picnic Committee met this past week and finalized plans for the 21st. After tours of the school (and at least partial results of our light replacement project), we will have our annual Parish Bakeoff contest, followed by a fabulous Magic Show for all ages by our very own Master of Prestidigitation, Tim Grunzel, followed by dinner (prepared by our parish school PTC), an updated version of the wildly popular dunking booth, an inflatable obstacle course (provided by the MCAA) and lots of other activities. Watch for the flyer in next weeks bulletin. Fr. Cas returns from his retreat this week, and I leave for mine. Thanks to Fr. Beal for covering for both of us and thanks to all of you for your generous response to our Annual Mission Appeal. Fr. Joe very much enjoyed his stay here and thanks you as well. The new lights for church arrived this week and our faithful crew of Dave Andrzejewski and our Retiree Service Corps are hard at work installing them. We hope to soon begin the work in our school with the same goal: more light at less cost. Thanks to all of our volunteers for their time and talent. Given how large the school project is, we can use even more volunteers who have electrical training or experience to help us evenings, weekends or daytime hours. Whatever fits your schedule fits ours! The savings from these new, more efficient, lights will be in the tens of thousands of dollars. Finally, thanks again to Bill Macrino and Wanda and Don Roth for their faithful tending to our plantings and flowers around our church and rectory. The results of their hard and persistent work are obvious to all and very much appreciated. With the lack of rain and our weeks of hot weather, it isnt easy to keep the grounds looking nice. At least Sam Brady hasnt had to cut our 20 -some acres of grass as often! Pray for rain and take care of those who dont have airconditioning! SCHOOL ADVANCEMENT Announcing Alumni Volleyball Game -- Saturday, August 20, 2011 @ OLMC Gym. 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. E-mail Susan Rinderle @ [email protected]. or phone 825-2822, ext. 9 for more details. Were also looking for volunteers who would be able to help with stuffing and mailings during the school year.
