J1939DA - 201502
1. SCOPE
This document is intended to supplement the J1939 documents by offering the J1939 information in a form that can be sorted and
searched for easier use.
This revision of the J1939 Digital Annex covers parameters approved thru the November 2014 (4Q2014) meeting.
1.1 Purpose
The SAE J1939DA Digital Annex provides all of the SPNs, PGNs, and other J1939 data in a spreadsheet format which can be
searched, sorted, and easily converted to other formats. SAE J1939DA contains all of the content previously published in the
SAE J1939 Appendices and the complete definition details for all of the SPNs and PGNs previously published in SAE J1939-71
Appendix A through Appendix D. For all other SPNs and PGNs not previously published in SAE J1939-71, SAE J1939DA only
lists basic details for those SPNs and PGNs and the user will need to reference the document for the complete definition details.

3. DEFINITIONS
3.1 Column Headings - SPN & PGN Tab
This tab contains the listing of all SPN and PGN assignments. The complete technical definition details are provided for most of
the SPNs and PGNs. If the technical definition details for an SPN or a PGN are not provided on this tab, then the user should
reference the associated "SPN Document" or "PGN Document" for details.
3.1.1. Revised

See 'Revision Column Definition' Tab
3.1.3. SPN Revised
See 'Revision Column Definition' Tab
3.1.4. SPN to PGN Map Revised
See 'Revision Column Definition' Tab
3.1.5. PGN
Not all parameters (SPNs) are contained in a PGN. Where appropriate, the Parameter Group Number (PGN) is listed in the
spreadsheet.
3.1.6. Parameter Group Label
The name assigned to the PGN.
3.1.7. Acronym
The acronym assigned to the PGN
3.1.8. PGN Description

3.1.9. EDP
The Extended Data Page (EDP) bit is used in conjunction with the Data Page bit to determine the structure of the CAN identifier of
the CAN data frame. See J1939-21.
3.1.10. DP
The Data Page (DP) bit is used in conjunction with the Extended Data Page bit to determine the structure of the CAN identifier of
the CAN data frame. See J1939-21.
3.1.11. PF
The PDU Format (PF) field determines the PDU format and is one of the fields used to determine the Parameter Group Number
assigned to the data field. See J1939-21.
3.1.12. PS
The PDU Specific (PS) field's definition depends on the PDU format. Depending on the PDU format it can be a Destination
Address or a Group Extension. See J1939-21.
3.1.13. Multipacket
If "yes"; the PGN can contain more than 8 data bytes. If so, transport protocol will be used. See J1939-21.
3.1.14. Transmission Rate
The time between message transmissions for broadcast messages
3.1.15. PGN Data Length
The data length of the PGN. Most PGNs are 8 bytes in length; however PGNs can be any length and they can be of variable
length
3.1.16. Default Priority
Used to optimize message latency for transmission onto the bus only. The priority of any message can be set from highest, 0, to
lowest, 7. See J1939-21.
3.1.17. PGN Reference
Additional information, including figures and tables, can be found in the embedded document on the "Supporting Information (App.
D)" worksheet in this document, as specified in this field
3.1.18. SPN Position in PGN

sections 5.4.2 and 5.4.3.
3.1.19. SPN
The numeric value of the Suspect Parameter Number (SPN) assigned to each parameter.
3.1.20. SPN Name

3.1.24. Offset
The offset is used to represent negative values when the value is expressed in the integer format used on the Data Link.
3.1.25. Data Range
Parameters contained in PGNs communicate a status or a measured value. The data in this column represents the range of
values defined by the length size, resolution, and offset for the parameter.
3.1.26. Operational Range
The data in this column represents the actual range of acceptable values for the parameter, where appropriate. If blank, the
entire data range is acceptable.
