What Is It
at is It
This module will work as a competency-based learning resource,
guiding you through the target competency. You should be able to explain
the importance of steps in decision-making in the following discussion as
you progress through this module.
Robert Frost wrote, "Two paths diverged in a wood, and I—I took the
one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." Unfortunately,
not every decision is as straightforward as "Let's simply pursue this route
and see where it takes us," especially when it comes to making decisions.

Decision-making – refers to the act or process of making a decision,
especially in a group. It is a set of continuing processes for assessing
circumstances or problems, weighing alternatives, making decisions, and
carrying out the required actions. The availability of the correct information
to the right people at the right time is critical to the entire decision-making
process.
STEPS IN
DECISION- MAKING
STEP 1
• Determine the Decision
STEP 2
• Assemble Important Facts
STEP 3
• Identify Many Options
STEP 4
• Look at the Evidence/s
STEP 5
• Pick one Option
STEP 6
• Do It
You must first identify the problem or question that needs to be addressed
before making a decision. Make your choice as specific as you can. You will
throw the decision train off the track before it even leaves the station if you
misidentify to solve or decide on a challenge that is too wide.
If you need to meet a deadline, make your decision measurable and timely.
Step 2. Assembly Important Facts
It's time to gather the knowledge you'll need to make that decision once
you've made your decision. Make an internal evaluation of your decision to
4
see where you achieved and where you failed. Look for data from outside
sources, such as studies or research.
Step 6. Do It
Once you've made your decision, follow through! Make a plan to assist you
in making your decision a reality. Make a plan for improvement or a project
for your decision, and then follow through with the duties once the plan is
in place.
