Assignment One: (Ii) (Iii)

This document contains 10 electrical circuit problems involving concepts like resistance, current, voltage, capacitance, and inductance. Students are asked to show the step-by-step work to calculate values like equivalent resistance, current, power dissipation, and more for circuits that include resistors, batteries, capacitors and inductors arranged in series and parallel configurations. The problems cover both DC and AC circuit analysis. Students are reminded that copying answers is considered cheating.

Assignment one
Solve the problems listed below by showing all the steps clearly. Simply giving the final answer without showing
your solution will NOT merit full points.

1. A Coil consists of 2500 turns of copper wire having a cross- sectional area of 1 mm2. The mean length per
turn is 64 cm and resistivity of copper is 0.02 µΩm at normal working temperature. Calculate the resistance
of the coil.
2. A Battery has an emf of 24 volts and supplies a current of 2.83A. What is the resistance of the circuit? How
many Coulombs leave the battery in 5 minutes?
3. What is the value of the unknown resistor R shown in figure below? If the voltage drop across the 500Ω
resistor is 4.0 V. The entire resistors are in ohms.

4. Find the total current for the circuit shown below.

5. For the circuit shown in the figure below, calculate

(i) The current in all resistors.
(ii) The value of unknown resistance ‘X’
(iii) The equivalent resistance between A and B.

6. Find the equivalent resistance between the terminals A and B.

7. Determine the power dissipated in the form of heat at the unknown resistor R.

8. A resistor having a resistance of 6Ω and an inductor having inductance of 30mH is connected in series
across a 100V, 50Hz supply. Calculate
(i) The current
(ii) The phase angle between the current and the voltage
(iii) Power factor
(iv) Power
9. A sinusoidal voltage V (t) = (200V)sinωt is applied to a series RLC circuit with L =10.0 mH , C =100 nF
and R = 20.0 Ω . Find the following quantities
(i) The resonant frequency
(ii) The amplitude of the current at resonance,
(iii) The amplitude of the voltage across the inductor at the resonant frequency .
10. Suppose an AC generator with a 200V, 50HZ supply is connected to a series RLC circuit with R =10
Ω , L = 100.0 mH , and C = 150.0 µF. Calculate
(i) Circuit current
(ii) Voltage drop across each circuit element
(iii) Power

Note: Copying from others and using others’ work as own is considered to be cheating and cheating is
forbidden by the law of the academic principles and regulation of the institute. This will lead to canceling
the results of the assignments.
