B. Lesson Proper
1. Review
We talked about fractions last time.
What is a fraction? Fraction names a part of a whole or a set.

What are the components of a Numerator

fraction? Fraction Bar
Denominator

We'll move on to a new topic now. Yes, teacher.

Are you all excited?

2. Motivation
Alright! Before we begin our lesson
for today, I'd like you to meet
someone.
I want you to meet Mr. Clock
Hi! I’m Mr.
Clock. Its nice
to meet you. It’s nice to meet you too Mr. Clock
What can you
say about my (Students' various responses)
face?

How many
numbers do I

my face?

Excellent work, kids! You did everything

correctly.

C. Development of the Lesson

1. Presentation
When you meet Mr. Clock, you will Telling time, teacher.
notice that he has 12 numbers and 2
hands on his face. Can you guess
what our topic for today is?
Alright! Today's topic is telling the
time.

But, before we begin, I'd like to show

you a video presentation that will
help you better understand the topic
we will be discussing today.

Is that all right with you, class? Yes teacher.

What are the two types of clocks Analog clock and Digital clock
based on the video you saw earlier?

2. Discussion
Okay, after knowing the two types of
clocks. Now, let’s proceed to our
discussion.
Let’s define first what is a clock. A
clock is a device used to tell time. A
clock has two types, the analog clock
and the digital clock. Let’s have first
the analog clock.

An analog clock is a clock that has

moving hands and (usually) hours
marked from 1 to 12 to show you the
time. The short hand tells the hour of a
day. That is why it is called the hour
hand. Again class,
what is the short hand tells us?

The short hand tells the hour of a day. That is

The movement of the short hand from why it is called the hour hand.
one number to the next number is equal
to 1 hour. This movement is equal to 60 Yes, teacher.
minutes. Do you get it, class? For you to
be able to understand well the movement
of the short hand from one number to the
next number, we will have a
demonstration.

(Teacher demonstrate the short hand tells

the hour of a day. That is why it is called
the hour hand. Yes, teacher.
movement of the short hand in the
interactive clock.)

Always remember that the movement of

the short hand from one number to the
next number is equal to 1 hour. This
movement is equal to 60 minutes. Now,
let’s move on to the long hand.
The long hand is called the minute hand.
Again class, what is the long hand? Very
good. The movement of the long hand The long hand is called the minute hand.
from one number to the next number is
equal to five minutes.

Very good. The movement of the long

hand from one number to the next
number is equal to five minutes.

If the long hand points at 1, we read it as

5. If it points at 2, we read it as 10, and
so on. We read the number by skip
counting by 5 until it reaches 11. When
the long hand points at 12, it means that
60 minutes or 1 hour has passed.
Do you get it, class?

For you to be able to understand well the Yes, teacher.

movement of the long hand from one
number to the next number, we will have
a demonstration.

(Teacher demonstrate the movement of

the long hand in the interactive clock.)

Always keep in mind that if the long

hand indicates 1, we read it as 5. If it
points to 2, we read it as 10, and so on.
To read the number, we skip count by 5
until it reaches 11. When the long hand is
at 12, it indicates that 60 minutes or an
hour have passed.

Let's look at an example now.

Kyle gets out of bed at six in the morning
he gets in the shower at 6:30 a.m. At 7:10
a.m., he is prepared to leave for school. 6:30 A.M.
What time does Kyle take a bath? Let's
now see what 6:30 A.M. looks like on
the analog clock. seems to be. 6, Teacher

(With the use of analog clock, illustrate

the exact time)

Which number should we put the short

hand?
Very Good! How about the long hand? 6, teacher
Very Good! Now, this is what 6:30 looks
like in our analog clock.

When does Kyle get ready to leave for

school?
Alright! Allow the analog clock to now
display 7:10 a.m. looks like
7:10 A.M. teacher
(With the use of analog clock, illustrate
the exact time)

Which number should we put the short

hand?
Very Good! How about the long hand? 7, teacher
Very Good! Now, this is what 7:10 looks
like in our analog clock 2, teacher

How much time had passed from the

time Kyle was taking a bath until he was
ready to leave for school? 40 minutes teacher.
(With the use of analog clock, illustrate
the exact time)
Very good!
Now, Let’s have another example.
Observe the hand of the clock

How do we write the time?

Very Good! How do we say the time?
Very Good! What about this one? 6:00 teacher.
six o’clock, Teacher.

6:15 teacher.

How should the time be written?

Very Well!
How do we pronounce the time? six fifteen, Teacher
Very Well! Keep in mind that 15
minutes are equal to one-quarter of an
hour. So, 6:15 refers to a quarter after
six.
Do you understand, class?

what about this? Yes, teacher.

How do we write the time?

Very Good!
How do we say the time? 6:30, Teacher.
six thirty, Teacher.
Very Good! Remember that half of an
hour is equal to 30 minutes. So, 6:30 Yes, Teacher.
means half past six. Do you get it, class?

Now, always remember class that we use

A.M. to tell the time in the morning and
P.M. in the afternoon and evening.
Do you get it, class?
Now, let’s have that the digital clock.
Unlike the analog clock that tells time
using hands on a dial, digital clock
displays the time in numerical digits.

Yes, teacher.

Tells the minutes

Tells the hours

As you can see, the right part tells the

minutes and the left part tells the hour.

The time shown in the digital clock is

five-thirty in the morning. Do you get it,
class?

3. Exercise
Our discussion from this evening
came to an end then. To see if you’ve
understood our lesson from today,
you have a quick activity to
complete.

1. Tell the time shown by the hands

of the clock

9:30 teacher

2. Complete the sentence below by

writing the time. Use A.M or
P.M.
6:00 A.M.

The family eats breakfast at _______.

3. Write the time being asked inside
the digital clock. Write A.M. or
P.M. beside the time. 7:30 A.M.

Past 7 in the morning

4. Tell the time shown by the

hands of the clock.
12:50 Teacher

5. Tell the time shown by the

hands of the clock.
4:30 teacher

Kids, well done! I believe you are prepared for

today's activity.

4. Generalization
Again, what was the topic we
discussed today?

Wow! You did all a great job. You’ve really 1 hour
understood our topic for today.

5. Application
We will do an activity to help you learn
more.
Instructions: Complete the sentences
below by writing the time each activity
done. Use A.M. or P.M.

V. Assignment
Now that we are done with our lesson, we
should always remember that knowing how to
tell time using analog and digital clock is a very
important skill. The ability to read a clock
impacts our life at home, at school, at work,
and in social settings. To tell time is
one of the important steps towards
independence. It will help us with scheduling,
task efficiency, budgeting time, and also
prioritizing what to do first. Telling time helps
us to know if we are early or late in our class.
That is why, we should practice habit of coming
on time in our class
