WEEKLY LEARNING PLAN S.Y. 2022-2023

Week 2, Quarter 3, Grade 8
Learning Area: SCIENCE
Teaching Dates February 20-24, 2023
12:30-1:30 Sincerity (Th) 1:30-2:30 Simplicity (W) 2:30-3:30 Respect (W)
Class Schedule
3:50-4:50 Reliability (W) 4:50-5:50 Purity (T) 5:50-6:50 Wisdom (T)
The learners should demonstrate an understanding of the particle nature of
Content
matter as a basis for explaining properties, physical/chemical changes and
Standard
structure of substances and mixtures.
Performance The learners should be able to:
Standard Present how water behaves and its different states within the water cycle.
Explain physical changes in terms of the arrangement and motion of atoms and
MELCs
molecules; (S8MT-IIIc-d-9)
DAY 1 (F2F)
At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to
OBJECTIVE/S 1. differentiate between physical change and chemical change.

TOPIC/S Matter: Physical changes and Chemical changes

CLASSROOM-BASED ACTIVITIES
Classroom Routine:
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Reminder of the classroom health and safety protocols
d. Checking of student attendance
e. Reminder of previous instructions

A. Recall (Elicit): Based on the previous lesson, recall what is matter, states of matter and the
properties of matter.

B. Motivation (Engage):
Chemical and physical changes occur all around us all the time. These changes are essential parts of
our daily lives, for example, digesting food, combustion, osmosis, and phase changes. However, a
few of the chemical and physical changes that occur daily are harmful for the environment.
Activity 1: Picture analysis (Explain what the two pictures imply)
2

C. Discussion of Concepts (Explore):

Students will answer the following Questions.

1. What is a chemical change? 2. What is a physical change?

In a physical change the appearance or form of the matter changes but the kind of matter in the
substance does not. However, in a chemical change, the kind of matter changes and at least one new
substance with new properties is formed.

D. Developing Mastery (Explain): Power point discussion.

1. A physical change does not change the molecular structure of a substance. The molecules from
before and after the change stay the same. That's because physical changes only affect a substance's
physical properties, not the composition of their molecules.
2. A chemical change takes place when the original substance's of molecules are taken apart and put
back together into new combinations that are different from the original combinations.

W2 LessonPlan

E. Lesson Application & Generalization (Elaborate):

3

DAY 2 (F2F)
At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
1. Enumerate and discuss the different physical/phase changes in matter
OBJECTIVE/S
(Evaporation, Condensation, Sublimation, etc.) in terms of molecular
arrangement and molecular motion.
TOPIC/S Physical/Phase changes in matter
CLASSROOM-BASED ACTIVITIES

Classroom Routine:
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Reminder of the classroom health and safety protocols
d. Checking of Attendance
e. Reminder of previous instructions
A. Recall (Elicit):
Based on the previous lesson recall the physical and chemical changes of matter.

B. Motivation (Engage):
Question: What is the importance of phase changes in matter?
Answer: Phase changes are important for our lives because they help provide heat, cool our food,
and regulate our weather, among other things.

C. Discussion (Explore): Power point – Phase Changes.

There are 6 THERMAL processes through which matter can attain phase change. They are melting,
freezing, evaporation, condensation, sublimation, and deposition. These six phases exist under
different temperatures and pressure conditions.

D. Developing Mastery (Explain):

4

What is molecular motion?

Molecular motion is defined as the movement of constituent particles or molecules in a certain
direction. The molecular motions are affected by heat and temperature. This is because temperature
is the measurement of the average kinetic energy of the molecules and represents the motion of
molecules. https://www.nagwa.com/en/videos/128183452349/

What is molecular arrangement?

Arrangement of particles in matter depends on its phase. They're close and organized in solids, close
but irregular in liquids, and far apart and irregular in gases. https://youtu.be/v12xG80KcZw

E. Lesson Application & Generalization (Elaborate): relating the lesson to daily living.

What is the science behind baking and cooking?

Chemistry, as you mix different edible chemicals to create dough or batter, with tiny air bubbles
trapped inside. Biology, as the culture of yeast provides carbon dioxide to make your bread rise. And
physics, as those trapped gases expand and give the rise to the bakes.

F. Assessment (Evaluate): A PDF file will be projected provided. (Matter Assessment)

G. Agreement (Extend):
1. Explain this process or diagram:

Reference: Chemistry book Science and Tech Module, Internet resources.

DAY 3 (online synchronous)

5

At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:

OBJECTIVE/S 1. demonstrate through various means how
phase changes in matter are affected by change in temperature.

TOPIC/S How change in temperature affects phase changes in matter.

Class Routine:
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Reminder of the classroom health and safety protocols
d. Checking of Attendance
e. Reminder of previous instructions

Question: How phase changes in matter are affected by change in temperature?

Phase Change is the change from one state of matter to another.

6 Phase changes:
1. Melting (solid to liquid)
2. Freezing (liquid to solid)
3. Evaporation (liquid to gas)
4. Condensation (gas to liquid)
5. Deposition (gas to solid)
6. Sublimation (solid to gas)

Activity:
6

Assessment:
Directions: Write the letter of the correct answer in a piece of paper.
1. Freezing a liquid requires
A. The addition of heat C. The removal of heat
B. Knowing the melting point D. Knowing the freezing point

2. First statement: Liquid water that freezes is still water. Second statement: Ice that melts is still
water.
A. The first statement only is correct C. The first statement is correct while the second statement
is wrong B. Both statements are correctD. Both statements are false

3.The following statements are correct about freezing EXCEPT;

A. Freezing involves heat leaving the system C. Particles are strongly attracted to one another
B. As heat leaves the system, the particles lose kinetic energy D. Freezing turns solid into liquid

4. When the temperature increases in liquid state of matter the tendency of the particles are to gain
A. More kinetic energy C. Do not vibrate
B. Less kinetic energy D. Move more slowly

5. If heat is added to solid it turns to become_______, while if heat is removed to liquid it turns to
_______.
A. Liquid, Solid C. Liquid, Liquid
B. Solid, Liquid D. Gas, Liquid

Form of submission:
Pen and paper quiz in-person. The questions above will be shown online.

DAY 4 (online synchronous)

At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
OBJECTIVE/S 1. present how water behaves in different states in
a water cycle (through song, poem, illustration, video clips, etc.)
TOPIC/S The Water Cycle
Class Routine:
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Reminder of the classroom health and safety protocols
d. Checking of Attendance
e. Reminder of previous instructions

The water cycle, also known as the hydrologic cycle or the hydrological cycle, is a biogeochemical
cycle that describes the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the
Earth. Wikipedia

Students will answer this question: What is the importance of water cycle to man plants and
animals?
Answer: The hydrologic cycle is important because it is how water reaches plants, animals and us.
Besides providing people, animals and plants with water, it also moves things like nutrients,
7

pathogens and sediment in and out of aquatic ecosystems and other landforms, and non-living
things.
