Sri Sankara Gurukula Ved Patasala, Hyderabad

Introduction:
Sri Sankara Gurukula Ved Patasala (SSGVP) is an educational institution that promotes Vedic studies.
Currently, the institute operates from the Chandragiri Colony, Neredmet, Secunderabad. Due to the
increasing demand for enrollment, the present infrastructure is unable to cater to the needs of the students.
Therefore, the managing trustees have decided to build a new patasala at Shamirpet, Hyderabad, with better
facilities to accommodate 300 students.
The Site:
The proposed site for the new patasala is located at Ponnal village survey no.121A/127, measuring 3 acres,
Shamirpet mandala, Medchal district, Hyderabad. A 9.0m wide road already exists on the southern side of
the plot. The land has been converted from agricultural land to non-agricultural land.
Architectural Concept:
The new patasala will be constructed on 2 acres of land, with an additional 1 acre reserved for future
expansion. The land dimensions for the project are 118.29m x 73.84m. The patasala will be divided into two
major activities, residential and educational, with a temple in the center. The entrance to the patasala will be
from the East, with a 40’-0” road provided on the extended plot area above 2 Acre land. An additional
southern road entry with a 40'-0" road will be provided, leading to the temple entry at the center with the
east entry.
The southern portion of the patasala will have the vedasala kitchen and dining facilities, with a common
toilet block in the middle. The northern portion of the patasala will accommodate students and reserve
Adhyapaks. A two-story structure with guest rooms without toilets will be built. The entire building will
have polished granite stone flooring, and the kitchen will be equipped with modern stainless-steel
equipment.
Zoning Plan:
The student accommodation will be housed in a square building with a central courtyard concept. The
building will have an RC column beam structure with A.C. blocks, a flat roof with a slant parapet wall
finished with terracotta tiles, and granite floor finishing. Students will sleep on the floor, and each will have
a cupboard for storing their belongings. A student toilet block and maintenance staff will be in the north-
west corner of the building. The main temple deity with a prayer hall at the 3000+ level and a water body
with steps will be in the center of the building.
Toilet Block-1:
The toilet block will have handwash and leg wash areas on the ground floor, with a toilet for ladies
connected to both the vedasala and dining hall. The building will have matt finish granite flooring and a G+2
structure with an RC column and beam structure.
Individual Buildings:
The Vedasala will be a square building with a central courtyard concept that can accommodate 94 students
on each floor. The building will be constructed with laterite stone (7”x7”x14”) walls, 50mm thick screed
with jack arch construction, and a polished granite floor finish. The roof will be pitched R.C.C. with
terracotta tiles. Students will sit on the floor for classes, and the courtyard will be open to the sky.
The dining/kitchen building will be a rectangular structure that can accommodate 300+ students at a time.
The kitchen and kitchen entry will be from the South-East, and the entry will be from the North. The
building will have an open courtyard and a polished granite floor finish.
The staff accommodation will be a G+2 RCC column.
In conclusion, the Sri Sankara Gurukula Ved Patasala's new campus project in Shamirpet, Hyderabad, is a
significant initiative that aims to provide better facilities to meet the growing demand for Vedic studies
enrollment. The proposed site is strategically located and well-connected to the city, and the architectural
concept is designed to create a holistic learning environment for the students. The project includes separate
buildings for student accommodation, Vedasala, kitchen and dining facilities, and staff accommodation, each
with a unique design and purpose. The managing trustees' vision for the new campus is commendable, and
the proposed infrastructure will undoubtedly provide a world-class learning experience for the students.
