 ABSTRACT

Smart systems, social media, and the internet as a whole have a big influence and advantages on how
students pursue their study methods, whether for academic aim or entertainment. This research was
carried out in the year 2022, with the scope of the study limited to the the selected Grade 11 Emilio
Aguinaldo College Cavite students in the strand of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
who continued their education through Distant Learning Method amidst the COVID-19 pandemic..

The purpose of this study is to be able to have a better understanding of the benefits techno-social can
give to students and academic personnel and what aspects they can incorporate through it. To achieve
the results we needed, we researchers used a qualitative method under the Basic Interpretive Qualitative
Study Design. We conducted our interview with the selected participants through Google Meet, and used
a thematic analysis to thoroughly examine the data that we'd gathered.

The researchers have thus reached the conclusion that the revolutionized techno-social systems became
the way for the students to be "proficient" and "constructive", which served as the main answer to the
general research questions of this study in the superordinate theme. This research will serve as a
reference for those seeking information related to this study for their learning, understanding, and
development for future purposes.

INTRODUCTION

TECHNO-SOCIAL: THE USEFULNESS OF SMART SYSTEMS IN THE ACADEMIC PRODUCTIVITY

OF SELECTED GRADE 11 STEM STUDENTS IN EMILIO AGUINALDO COLLEGE-CAVITE

Background of the Study

Over the last two decades, humanity made a big leap in the sphere of technology. And one of the
prominent forces that are pushing the industry now is the rising popularity of new media, particularly
social media platforms. Social technological advancements have transformed the smart systems through
which humans connect, and they lend themselves well to social media, which is now useful and extremely
valuable for students.

Social Media and the internet as a whole, have a significant impact on how students like Emilians at
Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite have affected their ways of study. Whether it’s used for entertainment or
research, there is a clear difference in how productivity has changed in the era of modern technology.

The influence of social media use on learning, social interactions, and sleep duration among university
students was published last year, in 2021, by the Saudi Journal of Biological Sciences in collaboration
with Science Direct. This study included the findings of 300 questionnaires, all of which were conducted to
assess the proportionate number of students who use the internet for academic reasons around the
world. With the information provided, it is evident that its benefits are insufficient or have a negative
impact on kids' learning. Same as with Talaue et al., (2018), the more time spent by students on social
media, the more negative effect it has on their academic performance.

However, most researchers do not investigate the usefulness or the positive impact of the new media on
students. For that reason, we researchers aim to study and further investigate how social media can also
be useful to the academic productivity of students.

Statement of the Problem/Objective of the Study

The purpose of this Basic Interpretive Qualitative study is to explore how the revolutionized techno-social
can be useful to the academic productivity of the selected G11-STEM students of the Emilio Aguinaldo
College-Cavite. At this stage in the research, the power of social media will be generally defined as the
key component for every student to have better communications and collaboration to help students
expand their knowledge and understanding especially in this kind of pandemic.

General Questions:
1.) How can techno-social systems help students in their  academic
productivity?

2.) What are the common social media platforms that students utilize?

8
Specific Questions:
1.) How can social media increase understanding and learning gains for students?
2.) What are the lived experiences of the selected Grade 11-STEM students in using the growth of
media in their school activities?
3.) To what extent  can students use social media?
4.) How can the use of smart systems influence students  to use them?

Hypotheses/ Assumptions of the Study

1.)  Students can become more relaxed and focused with the technological advancements, eliminating
the need of searching one by one in the library. All info can just be clicks away.

2.) Google, YouTube, Facebook, are the most common platforms for researching and are most of the time
a reliable source for answers. Easing the need of doubt on students’ answers and thoughts, further
verifying their information.

3.) Students are particularly free to use it at their own will to satisfy themselves on their needs on social
media, but are advised not to wander around too long due to negative side effects that may occur.

4.) Social Media is not just a platform, but an enormous community of people that talk about different
topics simultaneously. Students can search and use websites or groups that may know about that certain
topic and potentially get their answers from them. Even after school hours they may attain knowledge on
a subject by simply watching videos online, an example of this are the videos on a platform’s front page or
recommended page, typically containing videos that may pique your interest.

5.) STEM is mostly associated with math solving and a whole lot of rules and formulas. With social media,
they can discover solutions that may have different ways to solve problems and attain clues on how to
solve certain parts of the given problems. They may find simulations of an action as well, that may help
them picture their mind on what to do on the task. Social Media is just one huge database, there are
endless possibilities.

6.) Students can be more social and more interactive on network platforms, even to those who can be
shy. With networks growing more and more, so will the content of the platform resulting in more
information that could potentially be useful at some point.

Significance of the Study

Academic personnel – The data of this research will greatly benefit the teachers by leveraging the
findings to pursue greater academic approach and environment. They can use this to change or
incorporate certain social media aspects and functions further enhancing the effectiveness of their
teachings.

Students – The students would benefit by allowing themselves to formulate actions that enhance their
productivity. This gives the students a better understanding of what social media does to them enabling
them to act based on those data allowing for a higher productivity.

9
Parents and Guardians – This will allow them to know more about what and how social media has a
positive impact on their kids. With those, they can act and guide the students to a better state and they
can also communicate with the academic personnel regarding those resulting in a better learning
environment.

Definition of Terms

The duration of the study is from March 17, 2022, to June 7, 2022.

This research is designed to instill a thorough knowledge of the new media in the said participants of
Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite and how it helps their academic performance, especially during this
pandemic.

Review/Survey of Related Literature

Review of Related Literature

The supporting literature for our research will be discussed in this section of the paper.

Learning and teaching with social media. Habi Education Lab (Bernabe, 2021)

According to Bernabe (2021), the Philippines was named the "Social Media Capital of the World" in 2015,
and the title has been in place for the past six years. According to the Digital 2021 Philippines report, we
have around 89 million social media users, or approximately 80.7 percent of our 110.3 million population.
Filipinos spend around 11 hours per day online and slightly more than 4 hours per day on social media,
which is not due to the pandemic. During the pandemic, education and students relied significantly on
technology and the internet. When we view learning to be a social activity, using social media for learning

10
makes sense. The social environment has a substantial influence on the learning process, according to
Vygotsky and his social learning theories. Interactions are used to learn. The social media interactions of
a student with classmates, professors, and other specialists may also be used to foster lifelong learning in
an organic and seamless manner. In the same way that schools and classrooms are created, educators
should consider building digital environments to promote and maximize learning.

Use of social media in education: Positive and negative impact on the students: Semantic scholar
(Sangwaan, 2019)

Sangwaan (2019) claims that the use of social media has a favorable impact on society. Customers can
communicate and engage with one another through the internet, as well as create, alter, and share new
sorts of textual, visual, and audio information. It has a huge impact on our lives since it makes many
elements of life easier, such as political and monetary discipline, as well as educational discipline.

Implications of modern digital technologies in higher education: Semantic scholar (Ştefan, 2019)

The Internet encourages and simplifies the interchange of information and knowledge-discovery or
data-mining methods among individuals and apps, allowing successful initiatives to grow exponentially.
Through online platforms or websites, virtual libraries, and online encyclopedias, innovative secure
software solutions can enable students and teachers to share knowledge that fulfills excellence, integrity,
and accuracy criteria. Students, for instance, can access online archives, supplemental study material,
resources (such as interactive courses and video tutorials), and open resources in secure environments
before and after class. (Ştefan, 2019)

Review of Related Studies

Impact of social media on Education with positive and negative aspects (Zargar, 2018)

In this study, the good and bad impact of this research has been concluded based on how the student’s
used social media. It stated that the techno-social system has advanced quickly and is really beneficial for
everyone, especially to the students in communicating communication to access social networks at any
time and from anywhere.Social media has been used in an innovative manner for the aim of education.
They concluded that the students must be taught how to use this device in a more effective manner within
the instructional lessons, rather than simply messaging or texting. They must learn how to use these
media for the proper purposes to avoid its negativity.

Socio-educational implications of technology use during COVID-19: A case study in General

Santos City, Philippines. Human behavior and Emerging technologies. (Toquero & Talidong, 2020)

People are focusing on the benefits of the virtual world within the limits of their houses as a result of the
epidemic. For example, students who are unable to attend school owing to a lack of face-to-face
education have chosen to socialize instead. Every day, 38.30 percent of students in a Chinese city
searched the media for news and trends related to the disease. The use of social media demonstrates the
advancement of digital technology. The rise of social technology has sparked a flurry of online discussion
about the advantages and disadvantages of social and educational networks. Through the lens of the
virtual world, this work investigates the interactions of members in the community during the outbreak.
(Talidong & Toquero, 2020)

11
Theoretical Framework

New Media Theory (Manderbach, 2012)

According to Manderbach (2012), who established her New Media Theory to account for new
developments in the field of communication, whether mass or interpersonal, the advancement of the
techno-social was formed to account for new advances in the field of communication. Because the
majority of these advancements are due to new types of technology and its accompanying devices, new
theories were required to account for the changes in human behavior brought about by this new
paradigm.

Well in this theory, it supports our chosen title as it's completely related to the New Media Theory. In this
period, many individuals are surrounded with devices that can be used for social media and
communicating through the internet. This is one of the reasons why smart systems are greatly affecting
the student’s productivity and proves that it helps them learn for this school year.

Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) combined with Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) (Ashraf et al.,
2021)

The study is anchored to the New Media Theory (2012), and the Technology Acceptance Model combined
with Social Cognitive Theory (1991),  in a way that the study and the theory is both focused. The New
Media Theory is a theory in which a new thing in the field of communication is adopted in a specific
manner. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) combined with Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) on the
other hand is a theory in which perceived usefulness, perceived ease-of-use, and observational learning
is taken into account in how users deem the new thing as feasible to work with. TAM is generally defined
as information systems theory that models how users come to accept and use a technology while SCT is
the theory in which social acceptance and external influences is taken into account in how something is
accepted. With the advancement of techno-social aspects of our daily life social media is becoming more
prevalent and as such we should appreciate more of its usefulness and utilize that to progress even
further.

These two theories are relevant to the topic and support it as it has the same scope: social media and the
people. New media theory explains how new advancements in communication (which includes social
media) gets applied to the human ecosystem. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) combined with
Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) is how the people are more likely to accept new social technologies while
considering external factors like influence and more which is what the research is looking for to deduce
which is useful for overall academic performance.

Synthesis of Introduction

The rise of the techno-social system, notably social media, is growing increasingly popular among
university students, including Emilians' students, and serves as a new way of spending free time as well
as a distinct channel for discovering necessary educational and recreational information. But nowadays,
students and most researchers of this related study focus much more on its negative effects. That being
said, this study is conducted to explore and discover how the power of the new media can benefit the
students in their academic productivity. This aims to determine the lived experiences of those students

12
who have used social media in gaining their knowledge and better understanding for their schoolworks.
That's why, this paper will be advantageous to every smart system user to further know the beauty of the
revolutionized techno-social and minimize the undesirable effects of it.

METHODOLOGY

Research Method and Design

This study employs a qualitative method and uses the Basic Interpretive Qualitative Study Design since
the objective of the researchers is to focus on how the growth of techno-social is beneficial. That's why
this design is the most suitable for this study. In a basic interpretive qualitative study, the researcher is
interested in how people make meaning of and interpret their experiences (Merriam, 2002).

The goal of this study was to discover and comprehend how smart systems can help participants improve
their academic efficiency. The researcher's gathered their data from a focus group using an
interview-based research method, which comprises asking open-ended questions to engage respondents
and obtain knowledge about a topic. The interview-based research approach is a qualitative method of
acquiring information from a group of people. It is employed in order to obtain a better understanding of
societal concerns. Rather than a statistically representative sample of the entire population, the method
aimed to collect data from carefully selected people.

Sampling Technique
This study was carried out using the Purposive Sampling method, whose respondents are the selected
Grade 11 students at Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite enrolled in the Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics strand who conducted their studies on the Distant Learning Method amidst the
COVID-19 pandemic. The researchers applied a purposive technique. The alternative use of probability
sampling was not considered due to limited time and resources. According to Crossman (2020), a
purposive sample is a non-probability sample that's selected based on the characteristics of the
population and the objective of the study. This is also known as judgmental, selective, or subjective
sampling, in which the researchers choose their participants to participate in their study. In qualitative
research, purposive sampling is commonly implemented. Since it is purposive sampling, the researcher
have searched for a sample size of three to five participants to acknowledge this study. This strategy is
used by researchers to carefully select individuals or respondents based on the study's objectives, with
the assumption that each participant would contribute unique data to the study (Suen et al., 2014).
Research Instrument
The research instrument that was conducted in this study has gone through an online platform. The
primary data collection tool is an individual interview with each participant through Zoom, Google Meet,
Discord, or any available video conference platform that can be joined by the selected student. The
participants that have been selected for this study are all based on the study requirements. For their own
protection and to be aware, they have been issued an Informed Consent Form (ICF) prior to the interview
date, and all the data that has been used in the interview has been validated by the research teacher, Ms.
Reshiel M. Pelio. They have completed an informed consent form that includes all of the necessary
details of the study that allows participants to evaluate whether or not they are able to participate. They
also chose either a video or audio call, depending on their comfortability. For the participant's safety and
privacy, all the information and data that are gathered are kept completely confidential.

Data Gathering Procedure

Due to the ongoing pandemic at the time of the research, the researchers have opted for a no-contact
approach wherein no physical contact happens between the participants and the researchers while

13
gathering the data. The researchers have found a Grade 11 student taking the strand of Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) that is currently studying at Emilio Aguinaldo
College-Cavite to be a participant in the research. Thereafter, they have given a consent form to ask for
permission to join the study. The consent form has been sent to the participants using online means. If the
participants agreed to the proposed terms and consent, the researchers and the participants then decided
on the time and date for when to proceed to the interview. When all the needed tools are ready, then the
interview will begin. It will then be conducted using an online video-conferencing application like Google
Meet or Zoom, depending on the availability of the participants. At the beginning of the meeting, the
researchers explained the significance of their response to the study as well as the aim of the
investigation before starting the interview with the participants. The researchers then request them to
answer with all honesty regarding their experience of using the smart system to improve their academic
performance.

The researchers had a smooth and productive meeting during the interview. They are divided into
different tasks wherein some are the interviewers, others have taken some important notes, managed,
analyzed, and collected some information regarding the interview. At the end of the meeting, the sessions
were recorded. This made the researchers able to create a transcript for better analysis of the
participant’s response and to have valid information overall. Lastly, the researchers have given some
tokens of appreciation and thanked the respondents wholeheartedly for participating in the study.

 Data Analysis Procedure

The process of assembling or reconstructing data in a meaningful or cohesive manner and in a thorough
manner is known as data analysis. There are several methods and strategies to perform analysis
depending on the purpose of its study. In the data analysis procedure, we have analyzed responses of
the participants to the importance and outcomes of social media in terms of their academic performances.
The researchers used thematic analysis to properly identified, analyzed, and interpreted correctly the
participants' statements and information in deciphering the data. Thematic analysis is a qualitative data
analysis method that is commonly used to characterize a group of texts, such as interview transcripts.
The researcher have gone over the transcripts to make sure they were accurate and to fill in any gaps.
Following that, each interview transcript is thoroughly examined with a focus on finding
themes and highlighting frequently repeated words and ideas. Researchers are truly certain that this
analysis procedure makes the data property analyzed perfectly that identified the specific patterns and
transformed raw data into useful knowledge.

Table 3. Participant No. 1: Water

The summary table shown above was the interview of participant 1 a.k.a water. There are two themes
used in the table which are CAPABILITY and MANEUVER.

15
The first theme was Capability, in which the participant addressed how to embrace modern social media
and how well we are trained when it comes to adapting every new technological social system.
Resilience and Fact-Check are two sub-themes that fall under this theme.

The second theme was Maneuver, in which the participant mentioned how important it is to receive news
on social media that many people need to carefully act on and also stated how social media influences
him. The sub-theme that are involved in this theme are Awareness and Obedience.

Symbolism

The water shows clarity. Water is entirely composed of hydrogen and oxygen. Both elements are
gasses in nature and are invisible. To be specific, pure water is much clearer than any body of water. Our
participant no. 1 is like water, because his answers are clear and concise, and just like how water flows,
his experiences show that he can adapt or go with the flow with everyone else or with his environment.
Though there are some answers that lag and are inaudible, it doesn't affect the message in his answer.

As the participant shows, a clear and concise answer is given. The participant showed his clear
answers. His answers, based on his experience, also show how he keeps up with the flow of life. It also
shows how he continued to keep up with the flow of life even after there was a pandemic. You can also
see his clear direction in life and what he knows as a student. Participants may also see that he answers
each question quickly, like water surging, because he can answer it straight and clear. Because of the
recognition, he participates with researchers, which has a big impact on the participants.

Coyotes is a versatile mammal that does it best to adapt in the environment it encounters. They are
also known to be living close to people in rural areas and not just in the wild. They adapt to their
surroundings so that they can have higher chances of surviving. Just like the coyotes, participant number
2 also showed versatility and adaptability through his experience.

As he said in his response, at first, he had a hard time using techno-social means for academic related
works but then learns to adapt to it to the extent that he is using it without any major issues. Coyotes are
best in versatility and adaptability thus it is regarded in the IUCN red list status as Least concern in terms
of being extinct. Adapting to things quickly is a remarkable feat considering the times we are in where
technology and the world itself is moving and changing fast. This is a mark of great perseverance where it
is such a rare thing nowadays. As such, participant 2 displayed that he is a person of will while also being
versatile and adaptive.

Table 3. Participant No. 3: Book

The summary table shown above was the interview of participant 3 a.k.a Book. There are two themes
used in the table which are MINDFUL and ENTHUSIASTIC.

19
The first theme is MINDFUL in which the traits of the participant were expressed as a person who can
perceive and is responsive in anything just to gain and share her knowledge. Under this theme, there are
two sub themes which are Unusual and Cognizant.

The second theme is ENTHUSIASTIC. This is where the participant makes herself disciplined to come up
with her desires and finish what she is interested in . Under this theme, there are two sub themes,
Integrate and Motivated.

Symbolism

FIGURE 3. Symbolism for Participant No. 3 (E**** S*****) Book (Libro)

“Para sakin nakakadagdag siya kasi parang andami ng information na kumakalat. Sige sabihin
nating ano yung politics kasi yun rin naman yung latest topic diba. So, andaming mga information
na kumakalat, andami na nagshashare.”

The book was chosen by the researchers to reflect the characteristics of the participant who had
brilliant ideas and in-depth knowledge of our study. Like a book, the participant pledged her knowledge
and all the information needed for the researchers' study. The participant symbolized it as a book, for
giving a powerful medium for education and the growth and distribution of knowledge.

The book is an excellent source of information and analysis. The participant has a brain brimming with
controversial issues about our study. Books are not only made up of pages, but also of brilliant words
spoken by great minds, comparable to the participant who understood exactly what she was doing and
was full of knowledge. Like a book the participant delivered all the knowledge to help the researchers.
This book serves as a researcher's guide wherein the participant was able to give an intelligible path
through the success of the researchers' study about techno-social. Books could enlighten one's wisdom
magnetically in every aspect of life. The knowledge of the participants filled in the gaps and became an
important part of the research. A book is a gateway to fresh and unexplored concepts and opinions.
Books have the power to radically alter your outlook and expand your awareness in a short amount of
time. The same can be said about the participant who was willing to share essential facts and evidence.

Thinking about books, some people may tell you that it is boring not until you open it. This really
symbolizes the participant because she also tells us that she may be boring, saying that she's like an
introvert telling us that she just talks to someone if it's important. Like the books, through the ups and
downs they are filled with knowledge and information which are utilitarian for everyone who is open to

20
having some comprehension. The book signified the participant who indulgently shared information that
was advantageous for the researchers.

21
Table 3. Participant No. 4
The summary table shown above was the interview of participant 4 . There are two themes used in the
table which are PRODUCTIVITY and AFFECTIONATE.
The first theme is Productivity, in which the individual completes a task at school efficiently. There are
two sub themes under this theme, Advantageous and Innovative.

The second theme is Affectionate. This is where the participant desired to finish the race and expect for
a great result with the help of his loved ones. Under this theme, there are two sub themes, Big-Hearted
and Amenable.

Symbolism

FIGURE 4. Symbolism for Participant No. 4 (J******* O*****) Alpha Wolf (Lobo)

“Yung mama ko at mga kuya ko, kasi sila yung unang nakagamit ng… cellphone tas sumunod lang ako
tas… tas ano yun? Mmm tawag dun?

An alpha wolf is a symbol of leadership, a type of leadership that is confident while also daring. The
Alpha Wolf symbol represents the participant's response to the interview questions. Some answers may
appear to be brief, but he provided knowledgeable yet succinct responses. Also, his answer shows that
he has a good and deep relationship with his family and friends, which the alpha wolf can be despite their
strong appearance. He didn't even hesitate while answering the questions, making him have a strong
aura yet a soft-hearted person when it comes to his close relationship with his family and friends like an
alpha. He didn't even pause to consider his answers, demonstrating an impressive confidence and
self-assurance.

22
Back when the participant was still a newbie with techno-social, his mom and his brothers taught him
how to do things like using social media apps, he was taught how to do simple things and how to protect
himself.  As what we observed when he told us this experience of him, we researchers already concluded
that he is really worth it with this symbol. He's really like an alpha who has obedience characteristics; a
person who can lead, and a person who can also greatly obey. Though our interview may be short, for us
it was an ample amount of time for us to identify him to be like this. We are certain that at some point, he
could potentially be a fitting alpha with his amazing capability of being a leader based on his experiences
in life making him a clever man. Though hardships may incur, he will be there to support them, giving
them a hand to what they need and inspire them with his own voice and wisdom.

Table 4. Superordinate Theme

This table showed the two superordinate themes that answer the general research questions such as
Proficient and Constructive. As mentioned in the general research question no. 1 How can techno-social
systems help students in their academic productivity?.Based on the answer of the participants,
PROFICIENT appeared to be the most highlighted modality among the mentioned ones. The essence of
smart education is to use smart technologies to create intelligent environments that can be facilitated in
order to provide personalized learning services and empower learners by gaining wisdom talents with
better value orientation, higher thinking quality, and stronger mindsets that can be nurtured by the
students (Zhu & He, 2012). This means that the revolutionized media makes the users specifically the
students Proficient with their desired schoolworks and have gained enough knowledge to make their
works be usefully skilled. For general question no. 2, the researcher got a superordinate theme of
CONSTRUCTIVE to answer the question no. 2, What are the common social media platforms that
students utilize? . With their said apps or sites that they commonly use, it becomes the bridge in making
their skills develop, improve and to go further best in every task that is given to them.

Conclusion
This section closes the gaps of the research paper.

Based on the findings of this present research, the researchers were able to determine and identify the
conclusions that answered the general research questions.

1. The students become more PROFICIENT in their online classes that makes them become skillful
learners in doing any academic work.

2. Proficient and CONSTRUCTIVE made a big benefit for students who are using smart systems,
specifically the media in the overall journey in their study.

23
RECOMMENDATION
This part shares the future concerns for the following institution/unit:

Senior High School Students - to make themselves formulate some actions that enhance their
productivity and understanding of what social media does to them.

Senior High School Teachers - to help them acknowledge the student's success in their study by
leveraging the findings to pursue greater academic approach and environment.

Emilio Aguinaldo College Community. This study will be led by the EAC-C, and this is a good
preference to support the future study and success from the institution.

Academic personnel – to change or incorporate certain social media aspects and functions further
enhancing the effectiveness of their teachings

Parents and Guardians – To know more about what and how social media has a positive impact on their
kids. With those, they can act and guide the students to a better state and they can also communicate
with the academic personnel regarding those resulting in a better learning environment.

Future Researchers - to continue the research of finding ways and accurate information on how smart
systems are beneficial to all the students in this generation.

40. po uhm Mr. D* L*** can you please introduce yourself to us?

41. Sige po *loud noise* Uhm so I’m B******* S. D* L*** from STEM 4 MAPAGKATITIWALAAN.

42. Ok so Mr. D* L*** before proceed to the interview we would like to introduce to you our

43. study. We researchers, come to think about the new media in Educational

44. Development….Because, Techno-Social is becoming more *paused* and more popular

45. among university students, just like the students of Emilians, and serves as a new way of

40
46. spending free time and a separate channel for finding the necessary information, both

47. educational and entertainment. Therefore, our group agreed to propose this research,

48. entitled Techno Social : The Usefulness of Smart Systems in the Academic Productivity of

49. Selected Grade 11 STEM Students in Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite. We want to examine

50. the usefulness of smart systems *lagged* in their users. In particular, how effective

51. techno social are, in terms of academic productivity and student success. All right as now

52. we start po so how are you Mr. D* l***? How’s life and study with an online class po, we

53. would like to know po?

54. Uhm for me ok naman siya *noises* Kasi uhm syempre mas safe tayo dito tayo sa bahay and

56. Hmm glad to *inaudible* Mr Zid…. Ok so let’s continue again *noises* *inaudible* first

57. question how can techno-social systems help you in your academic task? Paano po

58. nakakatulong yung techno social system sa mga academic task or performance task niyo

59. po sa school?

60. Uhm for me ang sample ko dito is yung sa P.E usually pinapagawa tayo ng mga uhm

61. informative uh posters and dahil don uhm pinapapost siya sa mga facebook like social

63. and at the same time nakakapag inform tayo or nakakapag spread tayo ng awareness sa

64. mga tao about *paused* *lagged*

65. Ok thankyou and 2nd question *noises* What are the common social media platforms that

66. you usually utilize? Ano po yung mostly na ginagamit mong social media platforms or any

67. media po?

68. Ah for me ano uhm Facebook, Messenger uhm Twitter Tiktok and Instagram.

69. Hmm ok po then how can social media po increase your understanding and learning

70. gains? Paano po, paano po mas nakakadagdag aral or knowledge po yung social media

71. para sayo po?

41
74. like we can use ahmm social media to differentiate what is fake from ahmm legit news yun ganon.

75. Then ano po what are your experiences *noise* in using the different media in your school

76. activities, in your school activities?

78. nyo po like from the very beginning po ng paggamit nyo po can you explain din po

81. experience? *smiles*

82. Uhm pwedeng paulit lang ulit, kasi medyo uhm nalalabuan lang ako.

83. Ah sige po, ano po what are your experiences in using the different media in your school

86. niyo po bang ikwento po or iexplain from the very beginning kung paano niyo po

89. Uhm as a student syempre kailangan natin maging resilient, kailangan natin mag adapt sa mga

90. bagong uhm bagong technology lalo na kung makakatulong sa’tin so for me as a student

93. uhm content creator like yun nakakatulong sila like pagka kunyari yung may mga math tutors

96. Ah okay and next question po ah, to what extent can you use social media? Or

97. gaano katagal hanggang or hanggang saan mo po magagamit ang social, social media?

98. Uhm as a *paused* *lagged* student uhm educating is one of the small thing we can call

99. * inaudible* true nung nauso nung nakaraan lang yung hashtag let earth breathe so yung

42
100. social media is very, very convenient tool when it comes to advertising because people,

101. because it can easily reach people and promote advocates to have those who have *paused*

102. *cough* or an aware at the things that are very important. So yun nga as a student na

103. makapag spread ng mga awareness so yung social media is very convenient tool lalo pag

105. business or *paused* *lagged* performance task mas madali nilang magagamit ang kanilang

106. mga business so ayun.

107. Thankyou ahm next question po How can the use of smart systems influence you  to

108. use them? Paano kapo naimpluwensyahan sa paggamit ng mga social media, can you

109. tell us naman po kung kanino ka nainfluence or naattached sa paggamit ng mga ganto

110. po?

114. ganon.

115. Ok po so for the last question po we wanna ask po diba you frequently use social

116. social media for the school activity then *noises* you wanna know how was it po

121. Pwede paulit ulit sorry ha medyo naglalag paulit lang.

122. Ok lang po opo we wanna ask you po dba you frequently use your social media for

123. your school activity then how was it po nakakakuha naman po ba kayo ng mga good

124. grades sa paggamit po nito sa mga perfo- perfo- performance task niyo po and like

43

127. Sige ok lang. ‘Di ok na narinig ko na.

128. So ang social media is pwede rin siya makatulong sa pag tawag neto *paused* task

129. kunwari uhm uhm yung pwede ka makakita sa social media no’n and then mag

130. reresearch ka nalang kung totoo ba or hindi tapos pwede mo na siyang gamitin or for

131. instances mga posters, social media is uhm more on uhm feature videos you can use

132. some idea para maiapply sa performance task mo if palagay mo pwede siyang

133. magamit so ayun.

134. So that's it po ah thank you very much po and if there's anything you would like us to

135. know or do you have any other any concerns po?

136. Uhm none so far.

137. Uhm zid huli kana naka mute ka.

138. Ay sorry sorry. Thank you for sharing and letting us have your time to make this

139. interview successful mr de lima..this will be a big help to us researchers. Thanks for

140. giving us the privilege to hear your thoughts and experiences with this topic that can

141. help research to our study which can help us  make credible research. You can count

142. on us that every information we got from you will be confidential for the safety of your

143. privacy, thank you.

68. Uhmmmm
69. Techno-Social systems..help you in you academic task or uhmm paano po
72. Nakakatulong yunh tehno-Social systems satin kasi yun nga.. pandemic tayo..by the use
73. of ano technology kaya nagagamit..nagagamit sa ngayon..tska naiimprove rin yung ano
74. natin..yung analytical reasoning, problem solving, information..information evaluation at
75. tska creative thinking natin sa-sa paggamit.
76. So for the second question, what are the common social media platforms, that
77. you usually utilize or uhmm ano po yung mga mostly na nagagamit mong social
78. media platforms?

84. Ginagamit kopo pa site site lang naman
85. *smiles* *nods*
86. How can social media po increase your understanding and learning gains like

90. kaya nakakakuha tayo ng knowledge.
91. *silence*

47
92. Okay po thankyou po
93. And uhm * clears throat*..what are your experiences in using the different media

97. nyopong ano..pwede nyo po bang ikwento like from the very beginning po nang
98. paggamit nyo neto.
103. ano iba't ibang media.
108. ano eh magdadalawang taon narin nating ginagamit *dog barks*
109. Okay po sige po thankyou po…Mr. Rodney
110. Okay so.. How can you use the..uh..how can you use..uh wait no..how can the

115. Paulit po ng tanong, ano po yun?
116. Uhh how can the use of smart systems influence you to use them? So ano po
122. nagagamit narin natin sya.
123. Yeah and i think it's the same for everyone po.
124. Shanna…Shanna
125. *coughs* uhmm ano po we wanna ask you po diba you frequently use social
126. media po for your performance task, for your school activities po, then how was
127. it po?
129. performance task nyo po sa- syempre as a Emilians, madami tayong performance

48
*smiles* *dogs bark*
145. So uhmm thats it po, thankyou very much po..uh is there anything you wanna say
146. to us or may concerns po ba kayo?
147. Wala naman po
148. Okay so thankyou po for sharing and letting us have your time to make this
149. interview possible and successful..this will be really a huge help to us
150. researchers and uhh thankyou for giving us this privilege to hear your thoughts

42. privacy. Yun po, thank you very much po. Mr… You can now proceed po.
43. Uhm… Hello po Ms. Valdez uhm can you please introduce yourself to us
44. Uhm my name is A***** V***** i'm currently studying at Emillio Aguinaldo College Cavite STEM
45. Grade 11. I am currently 17 years old
46. *Loyola’s and Shanna’s overlaps* Does being a STEM hard?
47. Yes, Mahirap siya
48. Okay okay… Uhm… Ms Valdez, Before we proceed to the interview we would like to
49. introduce to you our study. We researchers, come to think about the new media in
50. Educational Development….Because, Techno-Social is becoming more and morepopular
51. among university students, just like the students of Emilians, and serves as a new way of
52. spending free time and a separate channel for finding the necessary information, both
53. educational and entertainment. Therefore, our group agreed to propose this research,
54. entitled Techno Social : The Usefulness of Smart Systems in the Academic Productivity of
55. Selected Grade 11 STEM Students in Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite which is you. We
56. want to examine the usefulness of smart systems in their users. In particular, how
57. effective techno social  are,  in terms of academic productivity and student success.
58. Okay po let us now start. So ano po by the way how are you po Ms Valdez how's study
59. how's life, how’s life how’s study with an online class po
60. Uhm Mahirap mahirap it was hard and kinakaya ko naman kase nasanay nako since nung high

52
62. Nung ano po ba nung grade 10 po diba kasi dun po diba nag start nung nag pandemic po
63. online class din po ba kayo nun?
64. No were not an online class were modular class so ano lang sulat lang sa ano gumagawa kami
65. sa papel tapos sinesend namin dun sa school.
70. You make sure naman po na nakakacope out ka po sa online class kahit sa modular na rin.
71. So, Mr. Zid, we can now proceed po sa mga question.
72. Okay let's proceed to the first question.
73. How can technosocial systems help you in your academic tasks or paano po nakakatulong
75. Kung nakakatulong po ba ito or hindi?
Yun
84. infomercial yun.
85. Yes, yes already as emilians po.
86. Uhh. Second question. What are the common social media platforms that you usually
87. utilize?
88. Facebook and messenger kasi...
Parang more than ten na nga
90. yung GCs ko eh, yung mahilig kami mag chat. Yung mga announcements, yung mga suggestions
91. namin shinashare namin sa Gcs most of the time. Kagaya ng mga research, yung creative
92. outputs namin, dun namin shinashare yung mga thoughts namin. Yung kung pano namin gawin,
93. pano namin matatapos yung lahat ng gagawin namin.
94. So ano, talking about research naman po.
97. Yes, first time.

53
99. sa paggawa rin po.
100. Yes, malaking tulong siya kasi actually first time ko nga eh. Parang andami kong nakita, dami
101. kong naexperience, naexplore lahat. Mga nangyayari.
102. Sige po, then yun po. How can social media naman… How can social media po
103. increase your understanding and learning gains. Like, paano po mas nakakadagdag
104. aral or knowledge yung social media para sayo?
105. Ano ulit? Ano ulit? Pakiulit.
106. How can social media po increase your understanding and learning gains. Like, paano
So, andaming
116. Ok, we understand po. Then, next question po. What are your experiences in using the
117. different media in your school activities?
119. performance task like. Pwede niyo po bang ikwento sa amin kung from the very
125. yun.
130. mga reaction nila about dun?
131. kanila?
132. Actually, wala naman silang reaction kasi first of all naiintindihan nila at tsaka alam nila na
135. Okay po ate, Mr zid you can proceed to the next question

54
136. Okay so… to what extent can you use social media or gaano katagal or hanggang saan
137. magagamit yung social media?
138. Siguro less than 12 hours kase nakatutok tayo lahat sa monitor kailangan nating… kailangan
139. natin ng messenger to communicate with others and yung mga iba pang platform like canva
146. bebreakfast simula nung ano nung nag online class bihira nalang kase pag may oras nag
148. dinner kailangan ano eh parang mas kinakareer yung pag aaral ko kasi ayokong… ayokong
155. I feel you po ate like ganyan po talaga minsan diba pinapagalitan na tayo ng mga
156. parents naten pero dahil gusto natin mag out- gusto makapag pasa on time
160. you po and Mr Zid you can now proceed.
161. Uh so final question, how can the use of smart system influ- influence you to use them
162. like paano ka po nainpluwensyahan sa pag gamit ng social media can you tell us
170. Actually may last question pa po, we wanna ask- we wanna ask po diba yung
171. frequently use nga social media for school activity and sabi niyo po diba you really
172. need to best lahat ng mga pinapasa niyo po then gusto po naman malaman how was it

55
187. *laughs* so ayun na, so that's it po thank you very much po ah and ist- kung meron po
188. kayong anything na- gustong malaman pwede niyo pong sabihin samin or may any
189. con- con- kung may concern pa po kayo
190. And ano po pala, we would like to know how was the interview naman po first time
193. Yes, it wa- it is my first time na ma interview ako actually nga medyo kinakabahan ako kase
194. baka alam moyon hindi ako masyadong nakikipag usap to be honest sa mga tao lalo na yung
195. pare- parang yung bihir- yung ano lang pag may ano lang… pag may gusto lang akong
196. sabihin sakanila yung ganon. So ito yung first time ko talaga na interview ko and yun lang.
198. Thank you for sharing and letting us have your time to make this interview
199. successful..this will be a big help to us researchers. Thanks for giving us the
200. privilege to hear your thoughts and experiences with this topic that can help
201. research to our study which can help us  make credible research. You can
202. count on us that every information we got from you will be confidential for the
203. safety of your privacy, thank you.

209. schedule to speak with us. Thank you so much po ulit..God bless!and have a nice day!

56
210. And ano po ask kolang po diba gumagamit po kayo ng can- ng canva diba po?
211. Yeah always
212. Naka- naka pro ba yung canva niyo?
217. Sige po, ano po tawag dito as a token of appreciation mag seseng po ako ng link kay

57. Ano po ba, tawag dito first time niyo po ba mag Online Class po like diba sa
58. Grade 10 tayo nag start Grading 9 tayo nag start ng pandemic,
60. Ah ano nung Grade 10 Modular po tapos ngayon first time ko mag online class

63. Thank you po
64. Ito, so let’s begin to the questions okay so. How can techno-social systems help you in our
65. I mean in your academic task? So Paano po nakakatulong you techno-social systems sa
67. As a student The techno social system is helpful for me to do my school works
68. because all of the information-information I needed is accessible online
69. Of course we need to um research that become credible para di tayo ano ma fake news
70. you know, alright so our second question um what are the common social media platforms
71. po that you usually utilized?
72. media platform? it's your turn na.

59
73. For me it's facebook since we know that many people in the
74. Philippines use it to socialize and entertain themselves.
82. Okay po for thank you po for the next question po Um how can...
83. how can social media increase your understanding and bringing things like
86. The usage of social media in education allows me to act this more helpful knowledge connect
87. with learning groups and learn about other educational systems that make education more easy.
96. Ahh yung sa doc may napannod sa tiktok about sa doctor a yung pagligo sa gabi ay walang kaso
97. ganon?
98. Hmm okay okay po. Mr. Rodney can we proceed to the next question?
99. Okay wait lang... Okay so po for our fifth question So ano ahm to what extent-to
100. what extent can you use social media po or gano katagal or
101. hanggang san po nagagamit yung social media?
102. For academic purpose to gain knowledge and to stay in touch with family and friends.
103. Ano po ba most of the time?
104. Ano ulit?
105. Most of the time po diba naagaga-ano parang naka tutok kayo sa ano gaddgets sa pag

60
109. Hindi naman... kasi hawak ko nayo-oras ko.
110. Ahh okay. Then eto po another question po ano po what are your experiences po in

NOTE TAKING:

The researchers were waiting in the meeting while the participants joined Google meet at exactly 5:30 pm
on April 27, 2022. Before the interview started, one of the researchers led a short prayer. Thereafter, the
researchers introduced themselves, and the leader explained in this interview that it's his choice to
participate, and he can back out anytime he wants.

Also, the participant introduced himself and, before the researchers started to ask questions, they
explained that the information they gained would be kept private. At exactly 5:35, the researchers began
to ask questions, and one of the researchers experienced a lag/delay that caused the interviewer to
speak while the participant was speaking and to respond late to the participant. Because of that, it makes
the interview awkward.

64
Mainly, the interview went well, and the questions and answers ended at 5:42. The participant
accidentally left because he thought the interview was done but then he joined back. The researchers
asked him if he had any concerns, and lastly, the researchers gratefully thanked the participant.

themselves so that the participant knows who will be the interviewer; the participant also identifies
himself, and one of the researchers leads a short prayer so that the pressure and awkwardness of the
interview session will be reduced.

Before the researchers began asking questions, they discussed the topic, the interview's format, and the
confidentiality of the information provided by the participant. The interview began after the researchers
discussed everything. Our leader is just a little bit sad and worried because her network connection is not
in a good condition, that's why she cannot catch up to the participants' answers and our plan to have
some follow up questions did not go well for us to have detailed information. But overall, the interview
went well, with the participant answering the questions honestly and confidently. A participant also shared
his experience with new media, including how he discovered it and the benefits he gets from it.

The researchers are grateful for the participant's kindness and approachability. The researcher was happy
since the interview went smoothly because the participant responded honestly and confidently.
Participants also addressed how to use social media effectively. The interview concludes with the
participant being told they appreciate his time and effort. The researchers are grateful for the chance to

experiences without any hesitation. She mentioned that this is her first year in online-based learning. Her
view on social media is positive. The interviewer and participant's engagement were good which creates
an inviting atmosphere.

Even though this is the participant's first interview, the session went smoothly without any problems
manifesting. The interviewers gave their gratitude wholeheartedly and reaffirmed that any information
regarding the participant is confidential. As a token of gratitude, the interviewers gave information on how
to have a pro account on canva then proceeded to take a picture of the meeting. Overall, the interview

SYMBOLISM

Participant No. 1: Symbolism for the Researchers - Water (Tubig)

68
Participant No. 2: Symbolism for the Researchers - Oyster with a pearl inside

Participant No.3 :Symbolism for the researchers - Book (Libro)

69
The book was chosen by the researchers to reflect the characteristics of the participant who had
brilliant ideas and in-depth knowledge of our study. Like a book, the participant pledged her knowledge
and all the information needed for the researchers' study. The participant symbolized it as a book, for
giving a powerful medium for education and the growth and distribution of knowledge.

The book is an excellent source of information and analysis. The participant has a brain brimming
with controversial issues about our study.

Like the books, through the ups and
downs they are filled with knowledge and information which are utilitarian for everyone who is open to
having some comprehension. The book signified the participant who indulgently shared information that
was advantageous for the researchers.

Participant No.4 :Symbolism for the researchers - Alpha Wolf (Lobo)

70
Participant No. 4 represents: The “Alpha” (wolf), it implies competing with others and becoming top
dog by winning a contest or battle. That misleads the facts  when applied to wolves, because most wolves
who lead packs achieve their position simply by mating and producing pups, which then become their
pack. In other words, male alpha wolves don’t gain their status through aggression and the dominance of
other males, but because the other wolves in the pack are his mate and kiddos. So an alpha wolf can
indeed be violent and assertive when the situation calls for it. Yet for the most part, he leads not with
noisy brashness and teeth-bared aggression, but steady strength, mettle, and heart that makes the main
characteristic of an alpha male wolf being trustworthy.

An alpha wolf is a symbol of leadership, a type of leadership that is confident while also being daring.
The Alpha Wolf sign indicates the participant's reaction to the interview questions, some answers may
appear to be brief, but he provided knowledgeable yet succinct responses; as for the pop-up questions,
he responded with confidence and clarity. Also his answer shows that he has a good and deep
relationship with his family and friends. He didn't even doubt while answering the questions, which shows
quiet confidence and quiet self-assurance. His response also shows that he has a strong and close
relationship with his family and friends. He didn't even pause to consider his answers, demonstrating
quiet confidence and self-assurance.

Thus, making us conclude that he is worthy of this symbol, though our interview may be short, for us it
was an ample amount of time for us to identify him to be like this. We are certain that at some point he
could potentially be a fitting alpha in his pack that leads them to the correct path. Though hardships may
incur, he will be there to support them, giving them a hand to what they need and inspire them with his
own voice and wisdom.
