How to Install and Enable the iFIX Classic

Historian Applications for iFIX Version 5.5, 5.8 OR


for iFIX 5.9

NOTE: Support for Classic Historian ends with iFIX version 5.9; iFIX 6.0
(and above) will not support the Classic Historian applications.

Description
Beginning with iFIX version 5.5, the Classic Historian applications (HTC.exe and HTA.exe) are not
automatically installed with the iFIX software. Depending upon the operating system installation on the
machine the actions required to install the legacy Classic Historian applications are different.

Resolution
Steps to be Taken to Install the iFIX 5.5 Classic Historian on a 32 bit Operating System:

1. Install the iFIX 5.5 DVD


2. Browse to the Setup folder then to the Proficy folder then to the Legacy folder
3. Run the install for the IFIX55_Pulse_FD.exe
NOTE: This will install the Classic Historian applications on systems running with a 32 bit operating
system.
4. In Windows Explorer, go to the \Local iFIX directory and open the FixUserPreferences.ini file using
Notepad
5. Search for and change the current setting "CurrentHistorian= iHistorian" to
"CurrentHistorian=Classic" then close and save the edited FixUserPreferences.ini file
NOTE: In some cases the CurrentHistorian entry listed above may not exist in the
FixUserPreferences.ini file and in this case add the following section and information manually to the
file and then close and save the updated FixUserPreferences.ini file:

[Historian]
CurrentHistorian=Classic
6. Restart iFIX 5.5 and the Classic Historian applications will be installed and available as required.

Steps to be Taken to Install the iFIX 5.5 Classic Historian on a 64 bit Operating System:

1. Download and install the iFIX 5.5 Service Pack 2 from the following link on the support site:
iFIX 5.5 Service Pack 2
NOTE: Login is required using your SSO ID and password and iFIX55_Pulse15_SP2 must be
installed prior to install of the Classic Historian SIM.
2. Download and install the iFIX 5.5 Classic Historian SIM from the following link on the support site:
iFIX55_Pulse_ClassicHistorian_003 for 64-bit Systems
3. NOTE: Install of the iFIX 5.5 Classic Historian SIM will actually install the Classic Historian
applications to a system running on a 64 bit operating system.
4. In Windows Explorer, go to the \Local iFIX directory and open the FixUserPreferences.ini file using
Notepad
5. Search for and change the current "CurrentHistorian = iHistorian" to "CurrentHistorian=Classic" then
save the edited .ini file
NOTE: In some cases the CurrentHistorian entry listed above may not exist in the
FixUserPreferences.ini file and in this case add the following section and information manually to the
file and then close and save the updated FixUserPreferences.ini file:

6. Restart iFIX 5.5 and the Classic Historian applications will be installed and available as required

System:

1. Install the iFIX 5.8 DVD


2. Browse to the Setup folder then to the Proficy folder then to the Legacy folder
3. Run the install for the IFIX58_Classic_Historian_001.exe
NOTE: This will install the Classic Historian applications on iFIX 5.8 systems running with either a 32
bit or 64 bit operating system.
4. In Windows Explorer, go to the \Local iFIX directory and open the FixUserPreferences.ini file using
Notepad
5. Search for and change the current setting "CurrentHistorian= iHistorian" to
"CurrentHistorian=Classic" then close and save the edited FixUserPreferences.ini file
NOTE: In some cases the CurrentHistorian entry listed above may not exist in the
FixUserPreferences.ini file and in this case add the following section and information manually to the

System:

1. Install the iFIX 5.9 DVD


2. Browse to the Setup folder then to the Proficy folder then to the Legacy folder
3. Run the install for the IFIX59_Classic_Historian_001.exe
NOTE: This will install the Classic Historian applications on iFIX 5.8 systems running with either a 32
bit or 64 bit operating system.
4. In Windows Explorer, go to the \Local iFIX directory and open the FixUserPreferences.ini file using
Notepad
5. Search for and change the current setting "CurrentHistorian= iHistorian" to "CurrentHistorian=Classic"
then close and save the edited FixUserPreferences.ini file
NOTE: In some cases the CurrentHistorian entry listed above may not exist in the
FixUserPreferences.ini file and in this case add the following section and information manually to the
file and then close and save the updated FixUserPreferences.ini file:

6. Restart iFIX 5.8 and the Classic Historian applications will be installed and available as required.

NOTE: In order for the HTC.exe application to be started automatically when iFIX is started, you will
need to edit the SCU and under Configure Tasks select and add the HTC.exe program from the root
iFIX directory.
