ENVIRONMENT

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content The learners should be able to demonstrate the understanding of how
Standards mutations that occur in sex cells are transmittable

B. Performance
Standards
C. Learning Explain how mutations may cause changes in the structure and function
Competencies of a protein (S10lt-Iiie-38)

Objectives The Learners should be able to:

1. Differentiate the kinds of gene and chromosomal mutations

2. Illustrate kinds of chromosomal mutations
3. Recognize common chromosomal abnormalities and how to
respond to them.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing ACTIVITY 1: Human Base Pairing
Previous Lesson Directions
or presenting 1. The class will be divided into 2 with 8 representative each.
the new lesson. 2. The students will have a paper pasted on their backs
3. The teacher will present the DNA template and the students will align
their selves as complimentary bases.
4. The group who gets more correct pairing within two minutes wins.
Ex.
DNA template: ATGCCTAG

T A C G G A T C

B. Establishing a State the lesson objectives

purpose for the
lesson Present the following pictures and ask the students what product has
C. Presenting these kinds of labels.
examples/
instances of the Have the students look for amino acids on the labels. Ask what is the
new lesson role of Amino Acid in the human body.

Ask the students whether they have prior knowledge of how Amino
Acids are used to make proteins.

D. Discussion new Introduce what protein synthesis is.

skills # 1

Discuss Transcription and Translation

Let the students watch a video about the steps of Protein Synthesis:
RNA Transcription and Translation
Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG7uCskUOrA
Guide Questions
1. Where do Transcription happen in human cell?
2. How RNA polymerase initiates Transcription?
3. What is the role of DNA strand in Transcription?
4. Where do Translation happen in human cell?
5. What is the function of ribosome in Translation?
6. What is the role of mRNA and tRNA in translation?
7. How amino acids are arranged?
E. Discussion new Activity 2: Using the illustration, arrange the steps of RNA
concepts and Transcription and Translation. Number accordingly.
practicing new
skills # 2

Number Steps
2 Nucleotides move into place along one of the strands
1 DNA is unzipped by the Enzyme RNA polymerase. The
two strands uncoil and separate
3 RNA polymerase assembles the complementary base
pairings
5 mRNA exits nucleus and moves to cytoplasm
4 mRNA separates from the DNA and the DNA is zipped up
by the RNA polymerase
7 Peptide bond is formed between amino acids attached
to tRNA
6 Ribosomes binds to the mRNA, reads mRNA by codon,
and draws tRNA with specific anti-codon
8 tRNA detaches from the amino acid and ribosome
9 Another amino acid is brought in until ‘stop’ codon is
reached.

F. Developing Discuss the Genetic codes for Amino Acid.

mastery (leads
to Formative
Assessment)

Activity 3: Decode the Code

Direction: Given the DNA template strand, write the complimentary
base pairs for mRNA and tRNA, and identify its specific amino acid.

G. Finding Practical Elicit the importance of Protein in the body using the following
applications of illustrations and questions.
concepts and Guide Questions
skills in daily 1. Protein is made of of chain of _____?
