The individuals recruited will be training others to perform the same skills the
applicants already have. They will provide evidence that they are trainable in a
number of areas necessary in Training of Trainers (ToT). This requires prior and
ongoing experience in the relevant technical field. It also requires the demonstration
of some of the competences in generic ToT.

Job Title Agricultural Engineer

Reports to Production Manager
Role Purpose The Agricultural Engineer will be responsible for applying their
knowledge of engineering technology to design agricultural structures,
machinery and equipment as well as re-tooling of engineers, technician
and craftsmen
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Works with agriculturalists to design structures, equipment, and processes.
2. Works in areas such as power systems and machinery design, structural and
environmental engineering, and food and bioprocess engineering.
3. Performs extensive research and development to improve on agricultural
machinery.
4. Specifies functional requirements during development phase.
5. Participates in design reviews for computer aided designs.
6. Estimate cost, reliability, and safety.
7. Generates specifications for parts and systems
8. Trains graduates, engineers, technicians and operators
9. Ensures designed systems function reliably and for a long time.
10. Designs power machines used for tilling, fertilization, harvesting and post
harvesting technologies.
11. Prepares agriculture engineering budget.
12. Develops pest control methods and techniques.
13. Designs irrigation, drainage, and flood control systems.
14. Conducts research on latest trends in Agricultural Engineering and farming
aspects.
Role Requirements: (Minimum Required Qualifications)
• Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering
• Three (3) years of experience in designs of Agricultural equipment, machinery
and processes.
• Possession of a Master’s degree in Agriculture Engineering is an added advantage
• Membership with the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers is an added
advantage.

• High level interpersonal and communication ability
• Problem solving: ability to find an answer to almost all obstacles in the way
• Proven experience in designing of structures and processes
• Knowledge of Power Systems, machinery design and bioprocess engineering
• A sound knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) and Computer Assisted
engineering (CAE) software and 3D modelling

• Possession of a Master’s degree in Architecture/Civil Engineering is an added
advantage

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Design, maintain, implement, or improve electrical instruments, facilities,
components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or
domestic purposes.
2. Perform a wide range of electrical engineering tasks by operating computer-
assisted design or engineering software and equipment.
3. Confer with customers, engineers, and others to discuss existing or potential
engineering products or projects.
4. Monitor and confirm that installation and operations conform to standards and
customer requirements by preparing electrical systems specifications, technical
drawings, or topographical maps.
5. Establish construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or
specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations.
6. Comply with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or
coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance,
documentation, support, or testing activities.
7. Prepare reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential electrical
engineering projects and studies.
8. Prepare specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials.
9. Supervise or train project team members.
10. Estimate material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation.

Reports to Production Engineer
Role Purpose Works to strict safety and quality requirements to achieve daily
production targets on Computer Numerical Control Machines and
convectional machining equipment.
Responsible for training/re-tooling craftsmen, technicians and engineers

7. Fits and assembles machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and
power tools
8. Verifies dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications
using precision measuring instruments
9. Estimates length of time required to complete jobs.
10. Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform
the correct function
11. Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines
12. Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to
specifications.
13. Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary
adjustments to produce a better result
14. Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to
determine if the process has been completed properly
15. Identifies and escalates any activity that has potential to cause harm or damage
16. Reports breakdown root causes, equipment faults and concerns to supervisors.
17. Identifies spare parts and consumables needed and logs usage.
18. Maintains the highest standard of workmanship at all times.
19. Works within 5S methodology to maintain the workplace to high standard at all
times.
20. Keeps up to date with developing manufacturing and engineering trends
regarding tool making.
21. Trains craftsmen, technicians, engineers and graduates in assigned areas.

• At least three (3) years’ experience in manufacturing.
• Experience in programming and operation of Computer Numerically Controlled
(CNC) machinery
• Experience in operation and maintenance of subtractive and additive
manufacturing equipment is an added advantage
• Possession of a Master’s degree in mechanical related discipline is an added
advantage
• Membership with the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers is relevant
