LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 10

Grade:Grade 10
School: Bata National High School

I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, at least 95% of the Grade 10 students are expected to:
a. explain the meaning of the Historical Approach;
b. determine the things to remember in critiquing a text using a historical
approach;
c. use the historical approach in critiquing the story of Keesh by Jack
London; and
d. write the important details from the story of Keesh showing the historical
approach.

Approach?
- Involves the understanding
of the historical and cultural
conditions that influence the
production of the literary work.
- Analyzes literary text by
using historical events and
evidence that include information
about the author’s life, and
historical and social
circumstances. This approach
also “seeks to understand a
literary work by investigating the
social, cultural, and intellectual
context that produced it—a
context that necessarily includes
the artist’s biography and milieu.
Example:
Bacolod was derived from the
Ilonggo word “bakolod” meaning
“Stonehill” since the settlement
was founded in 1770 on a
Stonehill area, now the district of
Granada and the former site of
the Bacolod Murcia Milling
Company. Due to the Muslim
raids in 1787, Bacolod was
transferred towards the shoreline.
