1. DESCRIPTION & JUSTIFICATION OF REQUEST

FEED Performance Specification doc. no. CE-030012 has indicated under section 213400 para 2.5A1:
- Circulation relief valve
Refer to Attachment-1.

However the circulation relief valve is not applicable for jockey pump as per NFPA 20.
This valve is intended to provide sufficient water flow to prevent the pump from overheating when operating with no discharge. This applied to
main electric and diesel engine fire pumps only.

NFPA 20 has specified the requirement for circulation relief valve only for Fire Pumps and NOT for Pressure Miantenance Pumps.
The pressure maintenance (jockey) pump is categorized as different with separate requirements in NFPA 20.
The need for relief valve for Jockey Pump is specified only incase its maximum discharge pressure at shut off exceeds the system design
pressure.
Refer to Attachment-2.

Contractor understands the circulation relief valve is not applicable for Jockey Pump.

Client is requested to confirm the above understanding in order to proceed.

2.5 PRESSURE-MAINTENANCE-PUMP SPECIALTIES AND ACCESSORIES

A. Match pressure-maintenance-pump suction and discharge ratings as required for pump capacity
rating. Include the following:

1. Circulation relief valve.

2. Suction and discharge pressure gages.

2.6 GROUT

A. Description: ASTM C 1107/ C 1007M, Grade B, factory-mixed and -packaged nonshrink and
nonmetallic grout; suitable for interior and exterior applications.

B. Characteristics: Post-hardening, volume-adjusting, dry, hydraulic-cement grout.

C. Properties: Nonstaining, noncorrosive, and nongaseous.

D. Design Mix: 34.5-MPa, 28-day compressive strength.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION

A. NFPA Standard: Comply with NFPA 20 for installation of pressure-maintenance pumps.

B. Base-Mounted Pump Mounting: Install pumps on concrete bases. Comply with requirements for
concrete bases specified in Division 03 Section "Cast-in-Place Concrete."

1. Install dowel rods to connect concrete base to concrete floor. Unless otherwise indicated,
install dowel rods on 18-inch (450-mm) centers around the full perimeter of concrete base.
2. For supported equipment, install epoxy-coated anchor bolts that extend through concrete
base and anchor into structural concrete floor.
3. Place and secure anchorage devices. Use setting drawings, templates, diagrams,
instructions, and directions furnished with items to be embedded.
4. Install anchor bolts to elevations required for proper attachment to supported equipment.
5. Attach pumps to equipment base using anchor bolts.

C. Install multistage, pressure-maintenance pumps according to HI 1.4.

3.2 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Manufacturer's Field Service: Engage a factory-authorized service representative to inspect, test,

and adjust components, assemblies, and equipment installations, including connections.

B. Perform tests and inspections.
