Biofeedback
Biofeedback is the process of gaining awareness surrounding the body functions and
learning to gain better control over the function. Biofeedback can be used as a great tool,
especially people with paresthesia, numbness, and Parkinson’s just to name a few. These are all
examples of issues where there has been a disassociation from mind to muscle movement. Using
biofeedback to help rewire this connection can be executed in a few ways. Visual, tactile, and
using electromyograph interactive software can be the most useful ways to help these patients
signals. The provider will place sensors that stick to your skin that measure breathing, heart rate,
muscle activity, brain activity, and skin temperature. These measurements can help to show a
connection between the mind and muscle activation. The graph shows when and what muscle is
activated, which provides both visual and cognitive feedback for the patient. This allows the
patient to better understand what it feels like to activate proper musculature, leading to better
As mentioned before, this treatment can help with the mind-muscle connection when a
disease or disorder is present, which has led to some form disassociation. Whether that be
improper muscle use, atrophy, physiological effects, trauma, chronic pain and/or injury, using
biofeedback can help to resolve the major issues in physical ability. These treatments offer
patients improvement in connection to their physical body, which is an something everyone can
Biofeedback as a healing energy and mind modality leads me into the chakra system.
This is another way we can connect with the body to find balance and in turn higher level of full
body function. There are seven main chakras that represent different thoughts, emotions,
memories, and actions. They help us to understand how we can learn from our past and move
forward into the future. They build awareness in our body feelings in connection to our way of
life. The balancing of chakras is a tool anyone can use to connect with and balance the body,
leading a healthier and happier life. One of the best ways to connect with chakra healing in
through meditation, but there are also a variety of other ways to use this method of healing.
The chakras start at the first three vertebrae and have locations leading all the way up to
the crown of our head. The first chakra represents our basic needs, when open leads a feeling of
bravery and safety. The second chakra represents creativity and sexuality, here is where we can
express ourselves. The third chakra is our source of personal power. The fourth chakra is located
at the heart, uniting the upper and lower chakras. This represents the connection of mind, body,
emotions, and spirit. A source for love and connection. The fifth chakra represents our verbal
expression and ability to be in complete honesty. The sixth chakra, known commonly as the third
eye, represents our intuition. The seventh chakra on the crown of the head is our connection to
spirituality and the divine. These chakras represent a holistic approach to the body and awareness
and cognitive benefits for improved health. It can be used in different clinical settings and
practices, which makes the usage malleable to specific comfort levels or needs of the patient.
Physical function, balance throughout the body, and cognitive understanding of the body are the
major ways we can use todays advancements in biofeedback to improve the well-being of the
population.
