What is…
COMMUNITY ACTION
- (week 1) Putting communities as the center of the
services development and services delivery. This helps
the community dynamics or the degree of
improvement of the community

- Is the process of building social relationships in pursuit

of common community interests and maintaining local
life (Wilkinson, 1991).

- The foundation of the community development

progress

- Encompasses deliberate and positive efforts designed

to meet the general needs of all local residents

In essence: it is a central component of community

and social well-being. Solidarity through
socialization and interaction between diverse
groups with needs is how it can be maximized.
Therefore…
A COMMUNITY ACTION
INITIATIVE
- Follows three core values and
principles
- Human rights
- Social equity
- Gender equality
- Participatory development
And furthermore…
AN ‘EMPOWERED’ COMMUNITY ACTION
INITIATIVE
- Aims to address and change the oppressive social
arrangements that exclude people without power
from accessing resources or participating in effective
decision-making that relate to their lives so that they
can be active in public policy debates and political
decision (Baines, 2007; Mullaly, 2010)

- Assumes both an individual and group willingness

to redress and refigure power imbalances informed
by a social justice agenda

In essence: empowerment through advocacy will allow
