The process of securing a job in the
UK, which includes getting a visa

GMC, can take longer than you might
expect. Timescales will depend on
your level of English and how much
time you take to prepare.

Demonstrate your English
language proficiency

Take the Professional and
Linguistic Assessments Board
test, also known as the PLAB test.
This helps the GMC to make sure that you
have the right knowledge and skills to practise
medicine in the UK.

You are now at the stage
where you can apply for
jobs

Apply for GMC registration with a
licence to practise

The process usually takes between one
and three months and you should allow
yourself plenty of time to complete it.

Your employer, a licensed sponsor
has satisfied the Resident Labour
Market Test and offers you a job

A certificate of sponsorship is an
electronic record and holds your
personal details and information
about the job you’ve been
offered. Your sponsor will give
you a certificate of sponsorship
reference number to add to your
Visa application.

Submit your visa application and pay
the health surcharge

The Home Office approves your Tier 2 visa
application. You can now start your post.
