A TOTAL CONCEPT

The areas of Community Development, Management Development and Individual Development are combined to provide the "total Jaycee concept" to each individual in Jaycees. These functions must be interdependent if a ny Jaycee chapter is to "develop the whole member through the whole chapter." The beneficiaries of a cohesive combination of chapter functions complementing each other are the individual member and the community.

A BENEFIT TO YOU
Why Jaycees Today?
Have you ever thought of what the future would hold for your fomily, your community and your nation if the conditions relating to such things as pollution, crime, health and sofety, remained the same? The responsibility and challenge is yours, "to lead or to follow." Will you remain a part of the problem, or will you contribute to the solution?

Here are Three Reasons Why Young People Join the Jaycees.
1) The desire for self-improvement. To learn how to accept responsibility, make decisions, become effective speakers, develop management techniques, be better employers, employees and better persons. The desire for community involvement. To have 0 hand in identifying community ills and then planning and executing action projects to remedy those situations. The desire for fellowship. To meet and associate with progressive young people of the same age bracket with similar interests and objectives. The friendships made are not confined solely to the local community, but extend nationally and internationally as well.

THERE ARE FOUR GENERALL Y ACCEPTED WA YS THE RECRUITMENT OF A NEW JAYCEE IS APPROACHED.
1. Tell him about the community action projects or programs that your chapter is currently running or plans to run. If one of these appeal to his interest he may want to join and become involved. A personal testimony describing how you have benefited by your jaycee membership. The prospective Jaycee may see himself enjoying the same experiences and benefits. Appeal to the prospective Jaycee's interest and desire for self improvement and personal success. Nearly every young man is concerned about improving himself and bettering his future. Develop the prospective jaycee's self importance by describing to him how he can contribute to your chapter's and community's improvement. Make your prospect feel wanted, needed and important

SUGGESTIONS

FOR OPENERS

"Has anyone ever talked to you about Jaycees?" "Are you a Jaycee?" "Why aren't you a Jaycee?" "Have you ever heard about Jaycees?" HERE ARE SOME COMMON OBJECTIONS AND SOME SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO OVERCOME THOSE OBj ECTIVES

"I don't have enough time!" "How much free time do you have?" "Would you be willing to spend 4 hours a month improving your community and yourself?" "The Jaycees cost too much!" Break your dues into cost per month or week. Relate cost of membership to pay period or cost of cigarettes or booze. "I'm not a businessman!" "Would you be interested in learning management and leadership skills through practical application?" Each Chapter can and should answer this: Do you have broad base membership? "Jaycees don't do anything that I am interested in!" "What would you be interested in?" "If we were involved in would you join?" Explain that if he really wants to see his ideas accomplished, by joining the Jaycees, he can propose new projects and his ideas can be realities.

"Modern logistics systems are the warp and woof of the fabric that holds our society together. They distribute not only goods and services to fill material desires and needs, but also ideas that spread cultural, social and economic progress. Logistics systems are oftentimes the instruments through which foreign policies of aid and assistance are accomplished, or the auenues through which the impetus of national will is exerted ... Logistics support is a major cause for the success or failure of many undertakings ... The Society of Logistics Engineers can perform a uital seruice in the unification and direction of the logistics profession in its support of the world of tomorrow ... and make it the most exciting and abundant era mankind has euer seen." Dr. Wernher uon Broun The practice of logistics in our increasingly complex society involves the application of scientific and analytical methods in integrated planning and operations for effective, economical life cycle support of products, systems, programs, or equipments, from inception to ultimate disposal. Logistics encompasses a relatively new science, opti mizing product and system effectiveness while minimizing the real, total cost to both the producer and the user. THE ROLE OF SOLE "The role of SOLE is enrichment of the profession of logistics with new dimensions in design engineering and integrated systems management in whateuer fields of endeauor they can be applied. Success in this role will strengthen our national security, achieue greater economic efficiency in our free enterprise system, and help build a better functioning society in the years ahead." Carl L. Henn, Certified Public Logistician Life Member
