In Thy Happy Halls: BFF Konek
Growing in different country with different culture is a struggle in terms of
developing camaraderie with new acquaintances. I once experience being left out of a group because I cannot cope – up with them. I may say language barrier is one of the reasons why since I had a different mother tongue and using Filipino during those time is really challenging for me. But I never gave – up in learning the language until I eventually mastered it. I may say that my perseverance not only in learning the language but also in adjusting for people around me who grew up in different philosophy brought about the locality where they grew up is one of my best skills. With this skill, I gained some friends who I still have until now. After watching the video, I felt proud of myself because I was able to have friends who are always on my back though it was really a struggle for me to have one. Aside from that, I am really happy that I also have a friend who is always there for me amidst some circumstances that put as apart. This friend, like the one the guest speaker have is always dependable though we are not always together. Moreover, I am very glad that I gained more friends during my college days even though we have not meet each other yet. I discovered also that I am capable of making friends with other people, personally or virtually. With the use of social media, I can have people who I can turn on to whenever I have problems or whenever I feel depressed in this modality of education that we have now. I developed a good relationship with my classmates because I opened myself to them, I did not have second thoughts for whatever judgement they might have for me because of our differences in attitude and upbringing. This activity thought me to develop trust to other people. If I will not, I will not gain friends. Yes, it is delicate to trust other people especially when you just meet them in social media sites. But it is my responsibility to have extra precautions. Of course, I must not fully open myself to them if I think that they are not trustworthy enough. But life is a big gamble. If you will not hand in your cards, you may lose the chance to have precious people. Aside from that, in this activity, I learned to choose genuine friends. In this time of pandemic, we may feel depressed and bored and social media is one click away. You may meet new people but it is important to be cautious in dealing when them because maybe some of them are just using social media to deceive other people. In line with this, I must not give my personal information at once. Another learning I had in this activity is not to look for more acquaintances outside. I have my parents who can also be my best friends and surely, they will not mislead me to wrong paths.
